Wannabe Moderators.

Recently, I got kicked from a certain Clan Chat. So, I made my own Clan Chat in a sort of rebellion act if you will. However, the clan chat I was kicked from let me back in, but then I wondered, wondered whether I really wanted to go back, because of one thing- Wannabe Moderators. (I will be going back as I've cleared some things up)

A friend of mine who went in there got banned for being reported whilst in there. My pure went the same way, and my main got locked as well. And so have may others.

This isnt just about the CC of course, wbms are EVERYWHERE. Every clan chat is full of them, TIF is full of them, and so is RSOF.

Now people may argue that the wbms come into popular CCs just to report people, but I disagree. I think that the wbms are regular CCers so sad, that they report their own friends just to gain a little silver star by the side of their name.

OK, reporting people when they do something extremely wrong is fine, but my friend said something along the lines of this: Maybe thats where you live

The bolded part is why he got banned; he got reported by multiple wbms who simply JUMPED upon the fact hed mentioned something about where the other guy lived.

The people who did that, IMHO should be banned, not him.

So, in conclusion, wbms go too far. Reporting people you dont know for little things is bad, but your own FRIENDS? Wtf? Thats just plain wrong.

Now I know Ill probably be flamed and this will get locked. But the last time I made a thread like this I got lots of pms from people who agreed with me, so I just wanna get my point across for the last time.

EPIC NOTE: This has nothing to do with the CC I got banned from, it's just that that event sparked me to make this thread.

It annoyed me like heck. My main account got locked because i asked one of my mates in real life wat his new adress was because he had moved, and a lvl 3 who was passing by caught me saying "so where do you live now" and reported me. Its just so annoying! To be honest i dont know what they want to be a mod so badly for. the only privelidge you get is that you can mute ppl if they have done something really awful, which rarely happens.

I know that it may seem ridiculous that he reported you but it is a good thing! He does not know you two were acquainted in real life. The fact that that person has made a report means they understand the rules.

If you want to discuss matters such as that it is best to use private chat so that passer byers will not overhear you.

In this case, fine, but in most cases it's nothing like this.

Wannabe Moderators

Hate them all, if they knew how the Moderator "process" worked, they really wouldn't act like "wannabes".

Yeah, I highly doubt reporting random people for BS reasons is actually gonna increase the chance of you becoming a mod lol.

Wow, was the level 3 a bald noob with green pants and a tan shirt? ROFL.

Those are the worst kinds. But what really drives me crazy are the little noobs who are members and about level 10-20 who go to POH's. Drives me insane. Why? They take the throne and they have he nerve to call us a noob because we just want to mess around on there. But on their hand... NO! They take it so serious, calling each other sexy. And how cute their armor makes them look. It drives me sick to my stomach. And then you just want to call them a pathetic waste of an account, but you can't. Something comes into play, they will be a 'Wanna-Be-Mod', and report you. You don't get benefit out of reporting someone. That person could be really nice in real life. The only people I report are the password scammers, macroers, and noobs like that. Not to mention people who want to get a BF/GF in the game. That makes me sick lol.

Well... Sorry, this is startng to turn into a rant, I'll have to go make a rant about that sometimes. you should actually get a mod to move this to the rant section.

Cheers.

Someday they'll learn that moderating isn't about searching for ebil bad words like some sort of computer algorithm, but about having a good dose of common sense.

It's a shame that the game's reporting system sometimes takes stuff out of context, which causes these wannabees to cause damage, too.

And if it's of any comfort, if any of these people were to actually make it to moderator, they'd be wishing they could turn off that darn crown in like a week :P

WBMs are the major reason I avoid CCs, and one of the many reasons I shun the RSOF. They typically don't know anything about the mod selection process, and just want a shiny crown that they think will make people like them.

Wannabe moderators are the scum of Gielinor. The existing moderators should be demodded, and more J-Mods hired. Most mods do an abysmal job, to begin with. If the almight position of moderator was removed, the things that should actually be reported, like macroing, would. But everyone is too busy trying to report each other, and nothing gets done, while the macroers reigned. That may have led to the downfall of pking, and the wanna be moderators will, one day, cause the fall of RuneScape.

You'll find wannabe mods everywhere.

When I owned a Counter Strike 1.6 server, I never told anyone that I was the admin/owner, except in the odd case that I would have to mute or kick or ban someone, which I did from remote control under a different name. Why? Because the instant someone found out you were admin, they would start wannabe modding to get on your good side to try and get power.

Moral of the story: You'll find wannabe mods everywhere you go, be it in real life (They call it neighborhood watch) or video games.

I think my Grandpa is a Wanna Be Mod in real life. He calls the cops on kids all the time for nothing.

Muted for 14 days for saying what around 10 times, by i'm guessing a wannabe mod in castlewars bank.. i guess i distracted them trimming their cooking cape with fletching.

To me paying for a game to have to look after some brats isnt what i call fun and wannabe mods need to be reminded, it is a game it's meant to be fun.

I only report in game for 4 things, Bug abuse, Racism, Persistant Irritating, and Lack of Respect or disregard for other players.

As for my mute if saying something 10 times, which i think players do alot, especially selling things.. is disruptive then GUILTAY.

But Wannabe mods bug me.

I have a few player mod friends who are nice and known them before they got a mod theyre mature responsible and themselves i think jagex are looking for rolemodels more than REPORT BAN MUTE Barister Mods.

LOL, it was a lvl 3 noob that was wielding a bronze chain and a bronze pick-axe, for melee, (for goodness sake why dont they realise PICKAXE NO GOOD IN COMBAT!) and was attempting to kill lvl 21 guards, only survived by constantly eating.

Sure, wannabe mods can be anoying, but if no one ever reported rule breakers, and just let people swear, spam etc, I would not like to see RS.

I went to a friends house and played halo 2 online, it was awful. There are the 'hardcore gamers' that are like ' dude what the f! you fing killed me you mother fer i hate your fing guts, get a fing life.' And of cource, with no way to report them, they'll just keep going and going.

So, sometimes it takes something like a bunch of wanna be mods to keep the game within reason. With the fear of getting reported, you are alot less likely to break the rules.

And yes, I am a P mod, and I have had many people ranting to me about wannabe mods and mods

Well, if you're breaking the rules, why should you be exempt if the person is a "wannabe moderator?" As the user said above, if no one reported people for offences, the game would be the equivalent of a bar during a bar fight.

When you first started playing, did YOU know that the pickaxe was no good? For the longest time, my favourite weapon was the rune mace. Why? Because I liked the sound it made when it hit something. :P I thought it rocked.

ON TOPIC: I can't say I've ever been a victim of wanna-be modding, however I do believe myself the victim of power happy mods. Once, quite a while ago, (so long ago in fact, that the black marks I received are a legacy punishment, and are non-appealable), I was trying to sell something in a bank. There wasn't many people coming or going, but being in my newby days, that didn't really register that I should go somewhere more crowded. Anyways, I was saying over and over, "Selling such and such." I'm not sure how long I stood there, completely silent to everyone around me, but someone else said they were selling something, and I wanted to buy it. I asked, "How much?" and they gave no reply. He asked me then, "How much?" and I gave my offer, only to be followed by him saying, "??? Can't you talk??" I sat there, and said, "Turn your public chat on!!"

I had no idea that I was muted, or that I had done anything wrong at all. I didn't get a PM from Jagex saying anything. It took me ages to figure out that I was muted. I think I sent some sort of query to Jagex, and I eventually got a message back saying that I had been muted because I had been spamming.

I'm completely over this now. I don't care, but I still feel that it was completely unjust of the mod who must have muted me. I was never given a single warning, and I would have seen it because I was the only one talking. I'm gonna end my sad excuse for a rant now, and let the discussion about wanna-be mods return.

If you're going to say anything remotely close to a rulebreak/something that could be interpreted the wrong way then say it in private chat, it's common sense. There are "wannabe mods" in every game and they keep the amount of rulebreakers down in all games.

Lowgravity, I want to be just like you. But...I never will be as 1337 as you. :(

You give a bad name for Silo's everywhere. If you just followed the rules their would be no problem, I know saying rude and crude jokes should definately be allowed the cheap laughs can never be replaced . Sure, Wanna be's are annoying but it's not difficult to obey the rules in the first place.
