gongusan
Hey I got banned from my clan chat, It's so unfair! The guy who reported me was such a wbm. What a jerk, I posted it in general discussion because I want people to agree with me so I know I'm right! Dude grow up. Obey the rules. They're there for a reason. Umm getting banned from the CC was because I called a general a nerd. The wbm thing struck me as an afterthought b/c I realized how many ppl had been reported there in the past. WildxYak
It annoyed me like heck. My main account got locked because i asked one of my mates in real life wat his new adress was because he had moved, and a lvl 3 who was passing by caught me saying "so where do you live now" and reported me. Its just so annoying! To be honest i dont know what they want to be a mod so badly for. the only privelidge you get is that you can mute ppl if they have done something really awful, which rarely happens.I know that it may seem ridiculous that he reported you but it is a good thing! He does not know you two were acquainted in real life. The fact that that person has made a report means they understand the rules. If you want to discuss matters such as that it is best to use private chat so that passer byers will not overhear you. Ok so the passer by doesn't know if the 2 people know eachother but it doesn't take long to ask if they do. People will jump at absolutely any opportunity the be a wannabe mod because they think it will increase their chance of becoming one. I think it even used to say somewhere about just playing as you normally would and not being naughty would give you your best shot at becoming a pmod. 99: Agility 28/12/14|Thieving 20/03/

Returned3
After reading a few posts from this thread, I just realized that I got temp-muted awhile back: I was at Barb village in the big ol' house training for awhile and all of a sudden this guy comes up and starts to ask me for my strength level. I replied but somehow he didnt get the message, so he asks me again. Again I replied but he dosent get the message, after awhile he got pissed off and starts screaming at me for not replying. I always thought that he had his public chat off, I never suspected me of being muted. And, my thoughts on how a model mod should be is exactly what ididnotlol said, they should warn us before immediately reporting us. Its the sort of feeling that makes me wanna punch somebody for that. 00:00:0500:00:0400:00:0300:00:0200:00:0100:00:00 Break the Walls down! Lowgravity
If you're going to say anything remotely close to a rulebreak/something that could be interpreted the wrong way then say it in private chat, it's common sense. There are "wannabe mods" in every game and they keep the amount of rulebreakers down in all games. K... there's this guy whose story I read in a thread similar to this. He, his wife and his kid were all playing, and he told his kid something about "I love your mom" in conversation of something, and someone reported him for it :anxious: haha that's priceless =D> Lowgravity, I want to be just like you. But...I never will be as 1337 as you. :(

I had no idea I was breaking any sort of rule, and I ended up muted without even knowing what had happened. I had to query Jagex about what was going on before I found out that I actually was muted. A warning really would have been nice, and would have worked just as well. :(

Use private chat for these kinds of chatting, even though i don't recommend it when with rl friends(phone!!!!), it's called PRIVATE for a reason. ;)
ForsakenMage
Warning: Long post, but please do read. You do know you can report player moderators for behavior you feel is not befitting of one, right? :?6. What should I do if a Player Moderator is abusive to me? If you see a Player Moderator being abusive to someone then you should report the event using the Report Abuse button. We will then investigate the matter and take any appropriate action. If, however, we find that a player has falsely reported a Player Moderator we will take action against that person. In regards to wanna-be moderators, there are some concerns... 1.) For the wanna-be moderators, are you actually doing it for the community or are you doing it just to have a cool silver crown next to your name? If you want to be a community player, informing people of the rules is a great start. Just slamming the report button without considering that maybe that player just didn't know better and need a guiding hand to help can make you look like a pain to the community instead. Sometimes helping is better than reporting. Of course, if the person is screaming "I don't care" and continues his rule breaking after you've informed them of the rules, you should report them. And being a community player doesn't just mean reporting too.We review their behaviour in the forums, the number and quality of abuse reports sent in, how useful and friendly they have been to other players and any messages sent in to us from other players about their behaviour in the game.Read the part that's in bold :) For the click-happy reporters, might want to keep quality in mind. For those that don't report but want to be a moderator anyway, consider your own behavior first. 2.) For the wanna-be moderators, do you think having a silver crown will make you immune to the RuneScape rules, or you'll get let off easier than a normal player? Not the case at all. In fact, it can also mean you're being looked at more closely than normal players. 3.) For the wanna-be moderators, do you think having a silver crown will make people respect more? Start reading the complaints people have against you already. Those are some of the complaints some player moderators have to deal with on a daily basis. Can you handle those complaints appropriately without losing your head? Do you know what's the limit to dealing with such insults? Do you know when to use the ignore list instead of the report button? And not only that, but a good part of the RuneScape population still can't differ between a player moderator (silver crown) and Jagex staff member (gold crown). Would you be patient enough to explain the difference or refer them to the Knowledge Database? Would you be willing not to let your annoyance get in the way and ignore them? Or will you simply scream at them at how stupid they are? I sure hope you didn't say yes to that last question. 4.) For the wanna-be moderators, do you think that having a silver crown will give you free stuff and previews of future updates? Nope. Sorry. No free stuff, no sneak peaks. As most of you know already, either from word of mouth or having seen screenshots of me talking, yes I am a player moderator. I posted my concerns for those wanna-bes because if you guys do end up being player moderators, you'll be working with other player moderators as well to uphold a good quality environment in game. Wanna-be'ing may seem the best way to go about becoming a player moderator, but if you can't uphold that behavior after you get the shiny silver crown, then start being yourself while being a good member of the community, not constantly nit-picking at what people say and taking things out of context to report just for the sake of reporting. Being a player moderator is NOT easy. It will NOT give you instantaneous respect, nor will it give you exclusive access to future updates, etc. Adventurer's Log || YouTube || Facebook || Tip.it Times Work || Wanna Join the Editorial Panel?Maxed Out 01 October 2012 PDT
Troacctid
It's absolutely ridiculous to be mad at someone who reported you for breaking the rules. If you really are violating the rules, then they were absolutely right. If you really aren't violating the rules, then you won't get punished for it anyway. And if you didn't break the rules and still got punished, then your complaint should be with Jagex's shoddy customer service that incompetently lets the punishment stand, not with whoever reported you. Instantly labeling anyone who reports as a "wannabe mod" is like being a little kid on a playground, taunting someone for being a "tattletale." Mylez
Wonnabe mods shouldn't be a problem if you don't break the rules. It's as simple as that. If you break rules, then fool you. And GL to the wonnabe for doing the right thing. I was also told to leave that certain clan-chat at the same time as you, however I'm moving on in a mature way, there's no point in dwelling over the past. Money Wasted
wannabe mods are so annoying  they are like pests to me, waiting to be squashed they report you at for tiniest of mistakes like if someone asks a friend: "wheres your house?" as in the location its in runescape, they pounce on it and report multiple times until your banned they lurk around everywhere looking for innocent players whove made tiny mistakes and somehow manages to magnify it so that the player gets banned. i only report people along the lines of **** off you ****ing idiot, and certainly not my friends unless they do it again. im even pretty sure people even report lmfaos and whatever bottom line is: the world would be a better place without them
Zox
I agree with you that WBMs are annoying as hell. The only people I report in Forsakenmage's CC are people who are racist and people that spam. BSC is packed with them, that's why I usually avoid it. There are nice people in that CC, but a lot of them are WBMs.
ForsakenMage
Off Topic: o_O Let's not make this thread into a "this chat has more WBMs than that chat" thread. Thanks! On Topic: Mind you all though, there are some WBMs that are great people who know when and when not to report. :) So not ALL of them are bad, just maybe the overzealous ones that's all. But really if we all did our part in following the rules we wouldn't have this discussion on why WBMs are bad. Again, the reports are based on quantity and quality. If the WBMs do become moderators and do not the act the same way they have before they became one, then it will show. So please do consider how you behave. If you're doing this just to have a crown, you will be a very unhappy player moderator by acting like that. It's better to be yourself, stick with your reporting habits that you know won't change too much after becoming a player moderator. Otherwise you're going to have a tough time living up to the image you've built up. I honestly rarely report someone unless it's evasion of censor that's more than a few lines, the spam-a-lots that won't stop after I ask them nicely to, nasty website spammers, sharing/trading accounts, and asking detailed personal questions. Those are the main things that most people get reported for to begin with I think, particularly the censor evasion which can also relate to discussions that may or may not be offensive to some, but deemed offensive in the eyes of Jagex. Of course, that doesn't mean I won't report for the other rules. But the other ones I've rarely seen these days. Arty
I only report idiots, period. =P Why should I care if I hear someone talk about another website? or people who I see asking for personal information? That shouldn't matter to me, so I don't report them. So I think it'll be better if people only report people who are being jerks.

Even if a WBM reports something else that's been reported, action will still be taken based on the first report.
