It's hilarious how people are getting their panties in a knot over "having" to pay a fee to ride the bus to school and home if you live within 2 miles of the school. The kicker? It's optional. If you don't want to pay then you don't have to. Either you can drive your child to school or they can walk like they've already been doing for the last 2 years

Not even kidding. Parents are whining about having the choice of paying for a service that we didn't have in the first place.

I'm pretty sure they pay taxes for it so I would be pissed off too if I had to pay it.

Every school in Texas doesn't recieve funding for bus routes within 2 miles of the school.

Once I moved off campus at my University I road my bike to school everyday to and from. It was somewhere between 1.5 to 2 miles one way. I did this at least 2-4 times a day sometimes. I have a truck, so I didn't need to do this. I choose to, and had no problem doing so even in huge downpours (granted this didn't happen much in AZ, but when they did the roads were like pools).

Unfortunately, today's parents are deadly combination of paranoid, lazy, and cheap. They don't want their child walking in fear of child molestors and kidnappers, they don't want to drive their children to school themselves, and they don't want to pay a fee for the bus.

Wow, tonight was very awkward... I'm an athiest and my girlfriend and her family are all Christian. They don't know I'm an athiest and the topic of religion came up while I was at her house earlier in the living with with her and her mother. Her mom said I should come to church with them and I didn't want to possibly ruin my relationship by just blurting out that I don't believe in God so I just said "Umm... yeah, sure.". Her mom could tell I was hesitant so she started asking me about my beliefs, asking if I thought the creation of the universe was just an accident, and asking what I thought of God and Jesus. Again, not wanting to possibly ruin the relationship I told her that I believe in God, I just haven't ever been to church before.

Her mom has now made it her goal to turn me into a church going Christian.... :-|

You should have said "I dont really follow a religion, but each to his or her own". That's how I am and what I answered to the priest @ my niece's christening. (it's more of a traditional thing then a religious thing)

Being Jewish, I always found it hilarious how hell bent the older church goers were on converting me to come to their church more frequently. Happens every time. Judaism actually prohibits recruitment by suggestion.

Silly church goers.

I hugely respect Judaisim for that. I'm Christian (United Church of Canada NOT Catholic), but I'm still hugely against active recruitment. I view it as a violation of each person's right to their own beliefs. You can discuss them, you can debate them if you want, but the second you try to convert someone you are saying that your right and their wrong. And people who want to say that can all go [bleep] themselves for all I care. My faith does not require other people to believe it, nor does it dictate that anyone who doesn't follow it is damned.

One of the things I love about my religion, is that it only really means anything in Canada (and Bermuda). Here, it's the second largest religion in the country, only just behind Catholicism. South of the border, or in any other country (excepting Bermuda, I think), it simply doesn't exist. Also, I tend to only get along theologically with other Protestant denominations, and worst with Catholics or any fundamentalist's. Religion is not something I would ever talk about in a situation like dinner if I didn't know where the other party(s) stood on the issue. Recipe for disaster that is.

I love the thing about the 2 mile bus. I can't believe they are offering that route at all. Let the kids walk damn it. It'll be good exercise, and lord knows this continent needs all the exercise it can get. If its raining, we invented the raincoat and umbrella for a reason. Or you can just sprint. Whatever floats your boat.

I took a friend's advice and answered the door to a bunch of Christian recruiters in a towel this arvo. Needless to say those two wont be back.

funny thing was I didn't plan on being in a towel, I just had a shower after going to the GYM.

Why is my mom so unreasonable? She was going to give me her old iPhone for personal use but when I want to take the useless thing and exchange it for something we can actually use she says that she'd rather sell it for money and keep it in the bank. She won't even listen to me when I tell her that even if a place does give you cash for the phone it probably won't even be half of what you could get in store credit... So now the thing sits in her drawer, constantly losing value by the second.

I've used that line (or similar) before when people asked me about my beliefs, most being religious friends or friends of my mother. Most tossed me into the agnostic category, which I don't mind, but it got on my nerves when the rest used that line as a signal to try converting me. I guess it's not easy trying to be as neutral as possible these days. *sigh*

Im doing a OS reinstall next week. MSN wont load contacts and says there all offline, Network is insane w/only me, and Steam constaintly struggles to connect AS WELL as Minecraft.

People still use Windows live Messenger? Oh... wait... I'm forced to keep it installed so I can still talk to some friends that refuse to switch to Skype/Google Talk.

well I dont use a microphone (unless its TF2) so yeah, no point having Skype. especially when no one really uses it

Final exam for my quantum mechanics course tomorrow and I'm reading tip.it.

My life just keeps coming full circle. When I was little, I was petrified of the water. My first summer job was as a lifeguard/swim instructor.

When I was little, I was also afraid of needles. Not phobic, but I think I had to be restrained a few times when I was 3 and 4.

Today, I learned how to give myself my own injections for a medication I am starting, using a nice little injector tool. The exact opposite of most needles. Normally you feel them go in, then it stops hurting at all (unless they miss and have to move it). With these, you don't feel them go in (probably because you can't see it), so there is no flinching, but after about a second your body figures out that there is something sticking a cm into your belly, and lets you how displeased it is with the situation. Takes 6 to 8 seconds before you can pull it back out. For added fun, the first time I got to have it done 4 times in a row.

Also loving the rain. I think we just got up to monsoon levels this morning. It was fine, then all of the sudden it really started pouring. Took about 10 seconds for my sneakers to go from mostly dry to 'standing in a foot of water'. My rain coat held out for all of a minute (It's not rubber, it was intended to repel light rain and not cook you alive if the rain stopped). Not that I actually have any particular objection to being wet in general, besides getting cold after a while. Also the dripping on everything when you enter the house until you can change your clothes. Puddles are one mess that actually bother me (probably because I grew up and also now live in a house with wooden floors).
