BlueLancer
One event of how many in the Olympics? I'd like to see you beat China at China's game - Taekwondo, Shooting, Diving, Badminton, Weightlifting... those sports matter as much as water polo lol Maybe some of those are "insignificant" even while being major sports.. But weightlifting and shooting are very traditional olympic sports. Probably much more people follow those 2 sports than the forementioned basketball. They do matter. (I'd personally much rather watch basketball for the increased entertainment value though and agree with the water polo remark in general)

Faux
I wasn't totally serious. I actually like watching badminton when it's on. Some of those rallies get insane. Esp. when two asian countries go at it. :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::

BlueLancer
I don't know why, but badminton and table tennis attract huge amounts of asian players/fans. I watched some Table Tennis contests earlier on EuroSport via satellite and can't remember a single one where the final wasn't battled between some chinese/japanese men & women or the occassional singaporean/filipino. It's an extremely fast paced sport (don't think the olympics cover it though, not 100% sure)

1_man_army
I watched the mens swimming relay. I like to see people break records so I've been rooting for Phelps to win his 8 golds, I thought he had no chance when USA was losing by quite a bit with just won length to go. I think he owes his teammate (forgot the guy's name) a drink for making up so much time to help get that gold. Two down six to go....hopefully. Other than that I haven't kept up with the Olympics, maybe I'll get into it more when the more interesting events (to me) get to the more important stages. I'm really looking forward to seeing Bolt in the 100m. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)

unknownmasterofnothing
Table tennis is dominated by china. It's as basketball was a while ago. The U.S used to be good in table tennis before sponge was invented for the paddles. Behind china are korea and japan. Also belarus and germany have stars. Sweden used to be a table tennis power also. China is so good in table tennis, that many of their athletes go to other countries to compete. Usa has 2 former chinese national team members. Table tennis is pretty fun, but hard to learn. Offering monetary rewards for Olympic performance is hardly in the Olympian spirit either, but doesn't seem to have stopped you offering $1M if does get all eight. Philipj
China is currently leading America in gold but I expect that to change soon.
