How do you read a thread?

How do you read a thread? I ask this because I wanna know. When you see a big thread with maybe 10 pages, do you read from the last page? start? a few pages before the last?

I personally read a thread differently under different conditions.

If a thread is like 3 pages long, I read from the first.

If a thread has a misleading title I read from the first.

If a thread has a understand title and I know what its about I'll read at the last page.

If I posted in the thread I go back to where I posted and see what has been said afterwards.

If the thread is 10+ pages, I read the page before the last to get a hint of the current discussion.

How do you read a thread? knowing by this case. If this thread comes to about 3 pages, I wonder who will skip to the last or read the first post.

Post away :geek:

If it's a huge thread like the Bible and Homosexual ones, I only read the last page. If it's only one page long, I read everything. Anything in between that, I usually just skim a few pages and see if anything interests me. And for threads I post on, I usually always check back on it just in case anyone replied to me.

Depends entirely on how interesting I find the topic to be. I'm not going to read even all five pages of a thread along the lines of "My mum took the xbox away! Imma be emo naow!" but I could end up reading a ten page thread about how to pieces of computer hardware compare, or about a band or videogame I like :P

I read threads exactly like you, except I read all of the "Ever Caught Them?" thread. It was just to awesome to skip anything

I read the first 3 pages and then click post, read the last 10 comments and then make my post :P

Sometimes I read the whole thread though.

I'm about the same as you. If a post doesn't seem to interest me and has 3 pages, I wont go near it. On the other hand, if it had less than a page I'd look at it to get into the conversation.

I visit every newish thread I can.

I only really keep up with threads I'm interested in. I'm definitly not going to read 20+ pages just so I know about what has been discussed during a topic that I may only post in once or twice. Normally I try and read all of the smaller threads just to get an idea of what has been posted and where the discussion is. It is standard to atleast read 1 page before the current page to make sure what everyone is discussing.

That's basically what I do.. Sometimes I surprise myself when I start reading a thread and (all of a sudden) it'll be 10 pages later and 20 min will be gone. Oh well, if it's interesting, it's worth it. ::'

First, I have to pick the threads I read. As a rule, I read all locked threads. I don't know why, it's just something I do. It has something to do with me wanting to know why the thread was locked...Don't know why I do that, maybe it's because I want to make sure I don't do the same thing one day at get my thread locked. Then, of course, I'll pick threads I'm interested in. I'm not a huge politics person, so I may or may not read those, but I'll definitely read anything I can probably contribute to. Like "Pen spinning."

I rarely let a thread get long before I read any of it. If something isn't appealing to me when it first appears, it still won't be when it's at 20 pages. Like I never read that homosexuality thread, as it just doesn't interest me.

If somehow a thread gets ahead of me, I will end up reading the whole thing no matter what. My curiosity controls me, it just happens. If there are extremely long posts, I will most likely just skim them, I've found that I spend way too much time on these forums.

I will keep up with any thread I post in, as if someone replies to my post, which is pretty rare, I want to know about it. If I don't post in a thread, but I'm interested, I will also keep up with it. Maybe not as intensely, but I will still read it. If a thread drags on and I know I will never have anything to contribute, my interest in it will eventually die out and I'll forget about it.

I do t spazmatically (word?). As in...I read most threads with a convincing title, and post in half of those. And if i'm more interested I wiki it. Good ol' Wiki. But say this thread, which I suspect wont be riveting, if I really want to i'll go to the last page. If it is like the Persi vs. Coke i wo't read it after I post -.- .

I don't like to post in a thread unless I've read the entire thing. By this I mean I won't attempt to answer any question the original poster might have had. The downside of this is that it stops me posting quite often. Quite often I'll address a specific post within a thread though.

I'll usually skim through the first post. If the topic interests me, I might read the first post entirely. Then I skim through the first few posts, look for people I know are going to put up a decent comment, then glance through for idiotic posts, and eventually reply if I feel like it. If the first post/topic doesn't interest me at all, I'll probably just go back to the thread list and find something better.

same with me! that was a great thread.

on topic: If its a short thread ill read the whole lot, or if its really interesting. otherwise ill just read the first post and the last page, or sometimes just the first and last post if its really boring. if its any more boring than that i just dont post.

What's with everyone thinking the "Ever caught them" thread was amazing, or ever funny? It was freaking trash.

Anyway, if a topic takes my interest and I think I'll be able to contribute to the thread then I try and join it as early as possible and read as I go along. That's probably one reason I barely ever post on OT; most of the topics don't interest me.

I also tend to avoid posting on threads that are already a few pages long before I see them, unless they interest me in particular.

Cool.

I hardly ever even open topics that are more than like 5 pages long, unless it really interests me.

However if I posted on it before it got 2 pages, I'll probably post on it, until I have like 3+ pages to catch up on.

If I think I have a valid point to make though, I'll usually scroll through the topic quickly to see if someone hasn't already said it.

It depends, I usually just open the topic and when the subject is interesting enough for me I just start reading. Whenever I get bored I just skip to the last page.

I normally read the first page and if i'm interested then i'll post regardless of the other pages. Or i'll read the first page and if i'm not interested then i'll read the last page as well.
