The_Avatar
The game has turned from a friendly, pleasant retreat from everyday life, into an fast-paced race for the next 99 cape, with the losers in this race receiving nothing but flames, insults and general grief. It's no way for a community to be. I'm sorry, but its your own fault if you see Runescapes community this way. The community for the past 5 years or so has remained exactly the same. Well, flames have always been hurled at me and I've set goals for myself since Day 1. I also still consider the game as a friendly retreat from real life too. He's right that training has become more fast-paced, but that's because RS is old enough to the point where having high levels is a "norm" so everyone wants to rush and get to par with the majority of players. You might do well to ask before you leap when getting into a debate. I've not even played for four years, so I can't see how it could possibly be my fault, especially when there are others who agree with me. It's not good enough to simply say, "flamers and whiners exist in all games so... meh". You have to look at how many there are, how bad they are what their impact is on the gamers who play around them. I'm sorry, but whenever I played Castle Wars, supposedly a friendly game where there are no real stakes and no items are lost, the amount of flaming was ridiculous. You kill someone, and half the time you get "[insert weapon here] noob". An ancient kills you by freezing you and running off, and then they rub it in in the most insulting way possible after they've killed you. The level of flaming in this game is awful - places like Tip.It are very much an exception. The fact is, it has changed. As RuneScape has populated, it's become full of more people who flame others in a way they wouldn't do in real life because on the Internet, they're hidden behind a faceless screen. I prefer to call such people cowards, you may call them what you like. Either way, they're bad for a healthy community. RuneScape is rife with people who are willing to cheat their way through the game, or break the rules in order to gain a real life advantages. In May 2007, Jagex had to ban 8,000 accounts a week for bots alone! That's almost one account a minute! Is that the sign of a community that complies with a common set of rules? The RuneScape community is weak. You don't even trade face-to-face with each other anymore, and you're forced to pay a certain price for goods. It ceased to be a pleasant retreat for me when they abolished PKing and all the obnoxious people that were tied up in the Wilderness started to leak into every other aspect of RuneScape life. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |

Good for you. You can believe what you want - it really doesn't matter since it's totally irrelevant. Two things: A) That doesn't change the article's point - flamers still exist in vast numbers in RuneScape; B) It's not just young children who are affected by flamers. Also, if you want proof that RuneScape is child-orientated, and that under-13s play the game, you needn't have looked further than Tip.It itself: http://www.tip.it/runescape/?poll_id=22 A grand total of just 18% of RSers are over the age of 18, according to that poll. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |

No, according to that poll, 18% of tip.it poll voters admit to being over the age of 18. Besides, no one denied under 13s play, it was just said that people who are 5 shouldn't be on the internet, and are probably not on RS. I would debate that the percentage total of players who are flamers and whiners has increased significantly, certainly numbers of flamers/whiners have increased, but that is only to be expected, and so have numbers of everyone else. The percentage total is what matters here. And the community isn't that bad, not when compared to some of the other forums around (you know where I mean). Also, your point about vast numbers of accounts being banned for autoing being a sign of the community problem is deeply flawed, for several reasons: Firstly, those accounts are banned, and are thus no longer part of the community. Secondly, most of those accounts would probably have been just bots utilized by industrial gold farmers, hardly representative of the general community. Thirdly, that example is old, from before the anti-RWT updates, and while the updates failed at completely eliminating gold farming and botting, they have certainly massively reduced it, thus rendering old examples like that useless. Hail to The Great Big Penguin in the sky. And Guthix, of course.
Ginger_Warrior
It's a subjective opinion. However, I will say this much. It's pretty much only you guys saying the RS community is strong. When you have as many flamers in-game as you do, when you have people cheating, when you have thousands of people threatening to leave the community altogether because of an update Jagex did about 9 months ago, when people would rather process their trades through a machine than actually meet face to face with one another; I'm sorry, but it baffles me how you can honestly sit here and say the community as a whole (not just Tip.It) is strong. Maybe Edgeville w99's community is strong. I don't really know. But let's try Lumbridge w7 and see if you can honestly say the same thing. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |

Ginger_Warrior
right............ i think summoning wasnt around 4 years ago What's your point? I not only went into HYT chat, I modded it for a whole year. The chat was an ugly ducking in a family of swans, as far as RuneScape's concerned. You can't trade charms, you can't summon pouches at any level other than you'd be able to make them yourself anyway. Instead, if anything, it just creates competition at Slayer hotspots for charms which leads to a rise in hostility. [hide=]Actually, I knew I shouldn't have bothered honestly giving my opinion here. I am actually beginning to understand how qeltar felt when he was posting about the G.E. in a fairly anti-Jagex tone. There may as well be some unwritten rule in a sticky on this board somewhere which says "only pro-RuneScape comments allowed". I guess it really was like going to Saudi Arabia and telling them Islam is a false religion. I've suggested RuneScape has a weak community, and been treat with nothing but disdain. I've suggested RuneScape is bad for your health, and got lots of angry comments. I might just keep to OT from now on... Zierro
Ginger, you never heard of the Great Party Hat Dupe? Did you know that they didn't have a second trading window at first and the only reason they made it was to combat scamming? Things weren't always 'flowers and candy' in Runescape. If you ask me, you're just talking retrospect. "Things were much better back in the day!" gauper_kid
Hey 'Scapers. To start off with I haven't really been on Runescape much lately and it is getting a bit hard for me to get on and play...but... Are you being a Tipiter? You know like back in the good old days when everyone would just hang around in Edgeville and socialise with other Tipiters - do we still do that today? It seems that Runescape is turning into a big skillfest, with everyone training for hours on end to be the best. Do you ever just stop training and go around Runescape saying "HYT!" and meeting with your fellow Tipiters? We skill hard, then we party hard. :). I would love to see a sense of community brought back into Tipit, it seems as though it is getting a little dull here. So go out and meet some people! Head to Edgeville or even Castle Wars on world 99 or world 7 for F2Pers and meet up with some Tipiters. Have a blast and meet some new friends! :) Whaddayas reckon? Yes , i think i am. I hyt ppl all the tim :D
Star_Fox
i'm going to be brutally honest and say that this is not the type of community where i want to show pride and communicate with other members in game. since when was the fact that opinions are allowed in this forum? we post them everyday, and at least 1 or 2 people have to be so anal about it that they start throwing flames, and bull crap at us to a point where it just puts us down. i post a lot of opinions on game sites, fan sites, and even my clan site when i had one. opinions were treated and looked as a legitimate comment but here is just flame bait. when someone disagrees with your comment, you are going to get flamed for it and no matter how relevant the comment is, it starts a flame war. i also notice a lot of unintelligent posts. looking at quoted posts can be a bit nervous. but seriously, what do 95% of flame wars usually start with? quotes. quoting people was ment to view your opinions constructively on how you feel about the users post, but in tip.it you'll get the usual smartass comments that contributes nothing to the topic and it's mostly flame bait. i read through a branch of game forums and to be frank, they're more supportive and more intelligent then the average tif user. achievements aren't just dumped in the rate this forums and putting garbage titles to advertise it. if you achieve things, be proud of it and move on. if you want to rant about the game, vent it by talking to friends who's having the same problem and move on. tifs never gotten close to any of these things. if you're going to reply with the usual "it's the internet" you're only supporting what i said.
