Life plans/dreams after grade 12?

A topic I just posted in reminded me of this topic. I think we did have one a while back but I couldn't find it so I'm making another.

Basically, what are you going to do when you leave school? Things such as further education, careers, hobbies, traveling etc.

After I come back from the states at the end of January (can't wait to get back on the slopes) I'm doing an electrical apprenticeship in the army to fall back on, and then going to flying school while doing a physics course at tafe. That way I will be guaranteed at least 50k a year as an electrician from age 20, (more likely 70k+ after I get out of the army at 24 if things keep going the way the are.) and then up to 300k a year as a pilot. (After I've been with the same airline for a long time.)

I love snowboarding and skiing, and will definitely go every winter I can. I also want to get good at pool, and have my own bar/table setup in my house. Reading the mystery method has also made me want to socialize as much as I can, which suits the hours that pilots usually have.

My dream job would be a pilot for a domestic airline (Medium haul) in America, unfortunately I don't know the slightest thing about flight education in Finland and even Google won't tell me. :x

If it helps, I can tell you how it works in Australia. Basically there are a few licenses for different types of engines, planes, cargo etc, some requiring other licenses and a certain amount of flying hours. Everything up to and including your commercial license costs around 35-40,000AUS. After that, to work for an airline you will need to get your hours up by working as a pilot doing other things such as agricultural work and chartering. If you get into an airline, your duties, hours and wages depend on how long you have been working at that company.

I'm planning on basically... a good chunk of education. My first goal is going to be to pursue refereeing hockey to the highest level I can, because that can get me through university (at least!) and hopefully far beyond that. However, I'll be going to university for architecture, because it's very possible refereeing won't work out, and I'll end up working preferably out of home as an architect. I want to work out of home because I hate cities with a burning passion - I'm a small-town kid, grown up never being in a town larger than 1000 people.

Thanks for trying but since Finland is socialist (Quite a bit of healthcare is free, all public education is free, which covers 95% of education here) I don't think it's like that here. Also, wages are very regulated.

World domination.

Honestly, I have no idea. I don't think it's a good idea to have plans two years further from now, because we simply can not know what the world will be like in 2011.

I know I'm going to the army and then I'd like to travel, but don't know where I'd go and what I'd study and where after I'm done traveling.

Getting kinda bored to Finland so I'd like to see the rest of europe, but then again I don't support aeroplanes #-o

Grade 13? Guess it's different in the UK :P

When I've finished all free education, I plan on going to med school at either Leeds, York, Edinburgh or Bristol. If I fail all application, then I'm planning on taking a biochemistry course anywhere and transfering to medecine after the first year.

Good move. You'll be able to go in as an undergraduate for 4 years instead of 5 so you won't really lose any more time.

Just watch out for finances though. You don't normally get government grants for a second degree. Might be an exception with Medicine but research it. :?

Heh, I was just thinking of making a topic like this over the past few days.

As of right now my fanancial situation is terrible. My car just got repoed and my parents vehicle is going to be repoed in the next few weeks (yay for bankruptcy). So my parents are going to be very little help when college comes besides letting me stay with them while I go to a local college. So right now I'm planning on taking a year off after I graduate this spring, working full time (putting as much money away as I can), then buying my own vehicle, and having a good amount of money left for college.

I'm studying at St. Cloud State University to be a High School History/Social Studies teacher. I've been set on it since around 10th grade.

Head to an out-of-state college, find a part-time job that doesn't bore me to tears, and begin to establish a writing career if I haven't already by that time.

Going to be a musician, selling albums to make money. It's pretty cool, i'm gonna have a single for sale on itunes in a couple months and i'm only in 10th grade

But i'm taking graphic design courses in case music doesn't make me money (which it should).
