Randox
What, the big bad tif mods use words to big for you to understand? Thus is not even archaic english. Now if they started breaking out the thees and what not...   The tip it mods seem to be resonable well educated (at least), and all of them are capable of speaking english. Aparently the acerage joe can't use a sentance where thus would be used because any synonoms would be even 'fancier' (ie therefore).
The Observer
I suppose it's because, just like any other user here who posts in proper English (no offense to people who cannot due to reasons such as being dyslexic or having English as a second/third language), to bring the point across as properly as possible so that they'll not only look professional, but they'll also be respected. Also, dosent eloquent mean, " vain or arrogant in a good way?" :ohnoes: :ohnoes: Sorry.. it's just what I learned in school. How do you mean by "diplomatic" I don't know the full definition(OFT: oooh! can someone tell me, is it definition or definition?) of diplomatic, besides it being a positive word.       OT: to make themselves be understandable. I'd rather type out my words 100 wpm than type 'em 20 wpm, then REVISE IT ALL. makes it seem impossible to post a suggestion for a new major skill. EH?! pryomancer
On a serious note (I couldn't resist posting that), it is important for the moderators and crew of ANY forum to display the level of communication that is ideal, which everyone should aspire to.   I know a lot of people won't agree, but I think language and grammar is incredibly important. A forum in particular needs good language skills, since it is primarily (arguably) for communication between similar people.   surly u wudnt wnt us tlkin lyk dis
n_odie
I hear they all use Firefox.... :?:    Kidding ;) ish...    A little more focused answer could be derived from the So you want to join the Tip.it Forum Staff? sticky.   When we notice an active user on the forums who we think might provide a positive impact on the community, we will invite him/her to join the team if they would like to. For one to be giving a positive impact on the community often times they have to be able to give a thought clearly. Thus spelling and grammar usually follow suit. Bear in mind this is not a requirement, but imo is probably the case.    Also, staff represent Tip.It. We have to watch what is said so it doesn't give a negative portrayal of the site and forum.   Don't tell anyone but you also get infused with a bio-genetic nanobot thesaurus on acceptance of invite. On second thought, lets forget I said that...  RIP MichaelangelopolousThanks to cowboy14 for the pimp sig!

I find when I read a post that has an honest effort at punctuation and grammar, I respect it.   I personally do use Firefox and I enjoy its spell checking interface. I am not perfect, so I see that I'm constantly corrected. :)
pryomancer
I always respect a writer when they use correct spelling, puncuation and grammar. If I find lots of technical mistakes then for me the piece just loses credibility.   I've never used the spell check function on FireFox, it never even crosses my mind. Without (hopefully) sounding like I'm boasting, I've always had a good command of my language and I'd say I have a pretty sophisticated style.   Things like typos don't really bother me too much, that just shows laziness if there are loads. I have the odd typo, but that's usually because I rush it. I always try to quickly scan my text before I submit it. Full grammatical errors however always catch my eye, because you can't accidentally make them. It's your knowledge of how the language works. Of course I know some people don't like to write or were never fully taught it, but still. I guess I'm just a perfectionist (read:grammar nazi). la la la
If you have ever read a professional or a well-written college essay, you will find the word "thus" in there at least once. It has nothing to do with mods but more with the fact that most learned people know the uses of "thus" and will employ it where they find it applicable. pryomancer
I love using 'thus', probably because I love Old English and such.   If I could write as deftly as Shakespeare, I would.   Ratiocinative Of, relating to, marked by, or skilled in methodical and logical reasoning.   Eloquent Expressive and good at communicating effectively   Diplomatic Able to sort out arguments and be fair (roughly, it's more complicated than that)   Amicable Friendly   Pulchritudinous Characterised by beauty :P

tryto
Shakespeare? I thought the only language you can use here at TIF is english? I need a dictionary just to read his stupid books... :XD:   Shakespearean English ;)   But seriously, in addition to other points, since most moderators are long-term users, they're more experienced. When most people start using forums, they generally have worse grammar and aren't as eloquent as those who are experienced at it. I know this was the case for me. Just typing a lot and being used to the styles of writing normally used on the forums changes your writing styles. I'd be willing to bet that a lot of people who seem to have worse grammar on the forums type a lot differently in essays for school. Practice, Practice, Practice :P.
