Returned3
Wow, I'd never expe.... er I mean of course I always knew this fact. Why do you think I spend 95% of my life on the internet? To play games, nah I'm stimulating my brain. If only my parents knew about it. BlueLancer
Not to be a spoilsport but the article makes it pretty clear the study was only conducted on old people, with the main focus on decreasing the risk of alzheimer's disease. It probably doesn't have the same 'activating' effect on young people whose brains are in constant use due to schoolwork, etc.

Mylez
I'm sure to some degree it helps, but so does reading a book, watching a documentary or simply talking to others. warren211
Well, the internet is basically an encyclopedia of everything from information to recreation to anything else you can find. If you can dream it, it's on the web. So the vast collection of knowledge is out there for those who aren't too busy looking at dirty pictures and killing n00bs. I wouldn't be surprised if it was found that the internet superfies your brain capacity. Rule 34 is so true... wait a second... the dude's MATH teacher told him about it? How on earth did they go from geometric figures or algebraic equations to...erm... that? [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. Ginger_Warrior
What's Rule 34? Laugh if you want. For those who use proper English: Generally accepted internet rule that states that pornography or sexually related material exists for any conceivable subject. Why stop at the Internet? You can say that for real life. :P | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
Piscis_Rex
Rule 34 of the internet is that if it exists, there must be porn of it Rule 35 of the internet is that if it exists and there is not porn of it, porn of it must be created anyway, back on topic now, it's fairly obvious the internet is stimulating for the brain, provided you're looking and intellectually stimulating material, and not just browsing the archives of lolcats.com 99.99999998465% of the world's population is not me, if you are the 0.00000001535% that is me, put this in you signature -"being famous is like being a woman, if you have to tell people you are, you aren't"
Mylez
Drifting back off topic, to answer the above ^ My maths teacher is amazing. He's only 23 years old, and playes games such as CSS, so as you can understand he's pretty in-touch with his 17/18 year old students. It came about one lesson when we were trying to make maths "a little more interesting" and I'll leave it at that :D

Who
Technically, anything can be considered good for the brain, it just depends on how you use it. In the internet's case, browsing forums and such may expose you to more words that you never heard of, which can be considered somewhat educational. But even so, the intellectual value you get from some things on the internet pale in comparison to those who actually use the internet for learning (Something like online schooling, etc). One of my last year teachers actually made his classes post on his Invisionfree Board for marks. A creative way to spend time on the internet if I do say so myself. rangeor
In the internet's case, browsing forums and such may expose you to more words that you never heard of, which can be considered somewhat educational. This is true. I've learned a lot from reading some of the more intelligent posts on these forums. In my opinion the internet is very educational and i've learned a lot more than I would have if I didn't have it. Also, people like Trapical (which I have seen on other forums as well) say things that really make me think, and even influence me to study harder in school hoping that someday I will sound as intelligent and mature as them. All in all I think the internet's really helped me get a better view of the world and what people are like and (slightly) improve my vocabulary and motivate me in school. I think, because of the conversations i've frequently had (or just read without contributing) with people years older than me have also helped me realize how immature I am. Now all I want is to be able to sound intelligent and mature, and not like the stereotypical 15-year old that I am. Unfortunately I haven't made much progress with that :( EDIT: Why do I always have to kill topics? D:
