What would Runescape gp look like up close?

Featured Replies

No matter what part of the world you play runescape from, you obviously live in a place with coins as part of your currency. These coins were produced at a mint and have designs on them that are intended to prevent counterfeiting and to show some sort of historical significance to the country they are the currency for. Maybe now you can see where I'm going with this.

If our characters could examine these coins up close, what would they have on them? Heads of gods? Maybe the King of Varrocks face? The Wise Old Man? Maybe they would have sayings or symbols on them. Where do these coins come from anyway? Is there a mint of runescape?

Im very interested to hear what some people think about this and some of the ideas you might have.

I can imagine that different coins would have different faces depending on area, just like back in ancient times, the determination of the value of said coin would be dependant on what it's made of. Because all GP is gold, it's obviously of the gold origin which really isn't possible in real life. If you base your whole economy on one unit it can fluctuate wildly depending on how much of it you possess.

For instance someone with 500 gp is going to think 250 gp is a lot whereas someone with 100k is going to think 250 gp is child's money. This is why pricing was originally complicated before the GE was put in place. The value of an item was determined by how badly said person wanted the item/ how much resources they had available to purchase the item.

I'd just think they were nothing more than golden pieces lacking any signicant design or markings.

It's not that I don't like to look out and beyond, just that it seems a bit over-the-top to me.

Finally someone that recognises there is a mock-conomy in Runescape!

Nah pretty muhc took the "smart talk" right out of my mouth.

Whats it look like...My thoughts.

GP is made of dirrent substances (like modern and ancient currencies) with differeing appearences accross the territories inwhich it is used. For example, in Misthalin will have King Roald or equivalent and so would other monarchies using the currency.

That was my take on it but I spose Inever really thought of it.

Even on my death bed, I'll bare-hand that bloody shark.

I would say it's just a blank gold coin.

This is not legal tender... but it is pretty shiny.

In the varrock museum, you can find ancient coins.

These coins had marks on them with some writting.

I think one had a saradomin symbol on and one had a zamorak symbol on.

Maybe they could have the city crests on them depending on what city they were dropped from?

However I always thought that they were called gold peices because they weren't currency as such, just bits of gold, and so have no markings...

I think it probably varies, from elaborate designs to blank coins, depending on how/where it was made, but overall being the same weight in solid gold.
