My IDEAL December Behind the Scenes. What's yours?

Featured Replies

Ever fantasize of an ideal Behind the Scenes that'll make people go WOAH and WOOT, a BTS that can bring back the excitment to RuneScape? I took a break from fishing (perhaps longer than expected), and typed out my ideal BTS of random revamps, improvement and perhaps some impossible updates, adding some that I've seen on the forums, thinking of new ones while typing ::' What's yours?

IT'S LONG, SCAN THROUGH TO SEE THE HEADLINES YOU WANT TO READ ABOUT. More may be added later when I'm free.

Disclaimer: The following wall of text is completely fictional, except for the santa suit section. Don't go ranting at Jagex in December when you don't see any of these on the December BTS, or any other BTS.

Behind the Scenes DECEMBER

Greetings fellow runescapers. In this month's BTS, we at Jagex want to surprise you guys, especially players who have followed us throughout the years. We have not one, not two, but a whole TRUCKLOAD of updates, changes and overhauls for everything from graphics to content!

New RuneScape Rule and Tutorial Program

We've added Rule Number X: Incessant Begging and Immature Behavior. Players will be banned from the game for a few hours up to a few....centuries, but no blackmarks will be issued.

The tutorial for players who are new to RuneScape now includes a lesson on player etiquette, to save the rest of the community from noobish behavior, flaming, begging, spaming.......

Updates

We've promised to bring you one major update once a week, with one small update every 4-week month and two small updates every 5-week month. However, the Jagex team feels that quests are an essential part of the game, and new quests shouldn't take up an update slot. From now on, one quest will be released per month, as with the monthly Postbag from the Hedge, Letters to NPCs and Artwork Gallery! (Unless it's a MEGA QUEST)

*NEW* We've added the new Editorial section, to answer serious questions from serious players with a serious tone. Why does teleblock have a chance to fail, while teleport ensure 100% escape in PVP? Why include baiting in Hunter when it has no visible benefit and no one uses them? How many members are on the RuneScape team? Why are pure essence not stackable? Who is Andrew Grower?

Random Events

Now that Real World Trading has been heavily curbed, and bots are no longer as common as before, we feel that random events are no longer necessary. They will all be removed from 3rd December onwards, so treasure your last meeting

Incidentally, the Mysterious Old Man, Sandwich Lady, Peasant farmer along with the rest of the crew has decided to relocate themselves at Draynor and Port Sarim. Some of them may be selling snacks to passer-by, giving you lamps and books once a week or just minding their own business. Three-tailed pet peasant anyone?

Combat System

First off, several changes have been made to the combat system. We feel that it's time to change the old combat system, which had been in use for over 6 years.

<3: **You'll now find that the crush, stab and slash bonus affects the consistency of your damage more than before! See what happens if you try to slash at someone in runite platebody! In addition, magic bonus has been further divided into fire, water, air and earth elemental defences, while range bonus is now divided into impact and pierce bonus!

<3: **Defence is now a universal skill for all 3 combat types. We seriously don't feel like adding Magic Resistence and Ranged Defence as a new skill.

Equipment, Old and New

We're sure that many players are sick of hearing the same old names (runite, dragon, barrows). Rather than releasing one or two sets of armour and weapons and waste one update slot later, we've released equipment for all three combat types for level 13, 15, 18, 23, 25, 28, 33, 35, 38....all the way to level 75! Don't worry, our newly expanded Content Team is bringing you equipments for level 85 soon!

On a side note, we've released equipment pieces which should have been there long ago. No point dragging along the years without a full dragon set, or a matching non-recharging coif for your dragonhide armour. Figure the rest on your own!

New Mage Equipment Class

Mages now have new equipment category!

Totems: These pretty crystal ornaments greatly boost your magic attack and defence bonus! Wield them in your shield slot today!

Mage spell books: Hunt and collect these new mage books! With their hardcover back, they provide some melee defence bonus against your prey! What's more, each book comes with it's own unique spells that appear on your spell shortcut slot on the combat interface!

<3: Binds & Snare for beginners: Bind, Snare spells

<3: Advanced Movement Constriction: Bind, Snare, Entangle and the *NEW* Entrap! (20 seconds bind spell). Reduce spell cost by 1 nature rune, up to a minimum cost of 1 nature rune.

<3: Controlling the mind and body Level 1-3: for your respective 5%, 10% and 15% stats reducing spell)

Knockback for Rangers

Tired of shooting arrow and bolts behind rocks and bushes? Your bows and crossbows now have a chance to make monsters and stop in their track, and a smaller chance of knocking them back one square! The better the weapon yo wield, the higher the chance of knockback happening. Now rangers can stand on their own!

Party System

Tired of being on your own? We've increased the areas of multicombat zones, as well as added more monsters on this giant landscape! Hill giant herds, goblin packs, dragon tribes, hunt them with your party members within 20 by 20 squares of the leader! Earn extra exp boost up to 15% with 4 members in your party! To form a party, add them to your *NEW* party interface to chat and fight at the same time.

Equipment changes and requirements

We've revised the stats of some of the eqiupment, and feel that changes need to be made:

<3: Dragonhide leggings and vambraces now have the same defence requirement as the body. Rune platelegs did have the same defence requirement as rune platebody....right? Right??

(Mod Mark: Yes, we didn't make a blunder on that one, at the very least)

<3: Battle staves and mystic staves have had their magic bonus boosted to fit their increased cost. You can now stop wondering why you pay an extra 40k for a mystic staff that's as "magically" powerful as normal staves!

<3: All weapons can now remembers your last selected combat style for each individual weapon, including spells selected for autocasting!

<3: Spells that requires special staves to cast no longer appear in your spell book, to make the layout neater.

<3: We've edited the spells that staves can autocast. Eg. God staves can autocast their respective god spells. Staff of Iban can autocast Iban blast.

<3: Attack requirement for weapons of the same metal type has been revised. (Eg, From rune dagger at level 31 attack to rune 2-hander, and battle axes at level 40 attack)

<3: Weapon speed has been revised, so that difference between different speed is reduced, speed gradient is gentler, and damage output of weapons fit their respective attack requirement.

<3: The dark bow has its firing speed slightly boosted to ensure that it has more damage output that magic shortbow, and hence better training value.

Firemaking Skill

While this skill was added to assist players in cooking without a range, the skill has literally no benefits today. Therefore, we give it an overhaul to fit RuneScape HD.

New (and some old) areas and dungeon are now TOTALLY PITCH BLACK! Light up the area using tools with 10 varying levels of brightness of Eerie Glow to Blinding Light). You'll find that even with the 99 firemaking pre-requisite tool, you'll only be able to see up to 5 by 4 squares. Without proper lighting, you'll find that your character takes more damage from combat than usual, and sometimes fail to auto retaliate. Explore with your teammates, overlap your light sources to see the true horror and danger of these location!

Fire from logs now last for different time period based on log types and firemaking level.

Crafting and New Slots

Bracelets now have a new look, looking more like bracelets and less like vambraces! New bracelets, rings and necklaces have been added to the game. Be aware though, these jewelery requires multiple steps in crafting multiple gems of different types, and you have a very high chance of failing at ANY STEP, destroying the whole product. Enchant them to see the addition benefits they provide!

<3: We've also added the new bracelet slot, to accomodate the expansion in jewelery, now players can get the best of both worlds!

Mining

What are Sunstone, Neptune Gem and Rainbow Crystal? That's right, new gems, which are a crucial part of the new jewelery! Miners now have a chance to get these rare gems whilst mining. We've added new mining locations in more.....adventurous locations where chance of finding these gems is higher, but beware, they are still as rare as your....well, just rare enough to be worth the find!

Summoning

After months since the release and revamp of summoning and summoning 2, we felt that low level players with combat under 30 and summoning under 25 have no benefits from using familiars, simply because they don't last long enough. All familiars now last a minimum of 30 minutes, so that low level players can use combat familiars more effectively to boost their damage, rather than bringing 10 pouches and summoning a spirit wolf every 6 minutes.

It doesn't make sense that summoning gives you up to 12 combat levels, and yet doesn't boost your damage in single combat zone. We've modified the system so that your familars can now attack the monster you're attacking. Their damage in single combat zone will be slightly reduced as well.

On the other hand, combat familars in multicombat zone will now be able to attack another target that players choose. Some of their scroll abilities have also been modified to hit multiple targets, with better accuracy. Defence and hitpoints of the familiars have also been boosted slightly so that familiars can stand on their own better, but don't expect to a level 57 spirit kyatt to fight on equal footing with a black demon!

Lastly, we've fixed two problems with the familiars.

<3: When players run, familiars will now run behind the players, instead of slowly stroll along. The whistle button will still be there should your familiar be trapped behind walls etc.

<3: The 'walk here' option has been made the first option when you accidentally click on another player's pet or familiar.

Cooking

New recipes have been added! The Lumbridge Cook has went on a trip to every corner of Gielinor, from Lunar Isles to Keldagrim. It's been a fruitful trip indeed, and you may now discover how to prepare SOPHISITCATED delicacies that heal up to 30 HP, using old and new ingredient alike! Save yourself from that lucky 70 damage hit from the Armadyl Godsword!

Construction

Fans of the construction skill, we've not forgotten about you. Based on player feedback and suggestions on the forums, we added a few new rooms, as well as features to the existing ones.

<3: The "You can only have one games room" restriction has been removed.

<3: More costumes from quests and minigames can now be stored in the costume room. In addition, we've added the fancy costume box and shoe rack, as well as changed some of the old ones to better categorize the items.

-Treasure chest: Treasure trail items

-Wardrobe: Magic robes

-Armour case: Metal armours, ranger armour

-Toy box: Holiday items and costume

-Fancy costume box: Clothes obtained during quests, as well as rewards from minigames that has no significant training values in any of the 3 combat types

-Cape rack: Shoes

-Shoe rack: Capes

*The shoe/rack section, our Technical Team is still trying to get them to store the right things, bear with us for a while.

Graphics, Technical Update and Day-Night System

That's right, the Graphics Team of Jagex has finally complete Phase Two of the graphical update for HD! We've fixed every glitch that's been posted on the forum, thanks to the help of you, our loyal players. Graphics for the various races, as well as proportion of certain things such as trees, buildings and monsters has been updated! You'll find that the King Black Dragon is now King-Size, the land of Zanaris looks more fairy-like, and the Grand Tree looks grander than ever!

You may sometimes find certain restriction in your travel, such as no weapons when using the flying carpet. Those restriction were implemented due to technical problems, but they've all been resolved! We love the Technical Team don't we?

Finally, night time in Gielinor! You may have been amazed by the effects of night-time during the Halloween Event, and now they're here to stay! We will be fine-tuning the rotation between day and night during the next few weeks based on player feedback, so stay tuned!

Guilds and Minigames

We've heard of your opinions, rants, pleas and suggestions on the old guilds and minigames of RuneScape. For the next few weeks, guilds will be revamped in looks and usefulness! Find increasingly access to various section of the guild, use special facilities, and be the top guild member! Who will be the top shark fisher in the fishing guild? Who holds the number one spot of best fighter in the Combat guild? It'll all be here this month!

Let's not forget the minigames. Fishing trawler plagued by looters? We've fixed that! A headgear from Chompy Bird Hunting that has no benefits after thousands of kills? How about better hit accuracy on chompy and jubbly birds when worn, and a fun new Chompy and Jubbly bird costume to run about in Varrock? Battle Robes not worth the recharge cost? We've fixed that too! Be surprised this month!

Christmas Event, and more events!

Did you know that fairies in Zanaris celebrate the Fairy Queen's Birthday in February with a grand birthday bash? And Falador has a horseback dueling competition in July? And Ardougne has an annual archery match on the grass patch outside the Ranged Guild? That's right, expect these annual events in RuneScape, plus more! Collect event items, make a name for yourself as the champion of the year, or simply indulge in the festive atmosphere!

Last but not least, Christmas is here! Be sure to partcipate and collect your Santa suit, pet reindeer, and who knows, maybe a secret reward? (Who says we can only release one reward?)

Ending Words

With that say, expect more quests, new storylines to unfold, new achievement diaries to be completed, new SKILLS that will allow you to explore the land, sea and sky in ways you've never thought possible, as well as new equipment and monsters next year! Do you have what it takes to find ancient treasure buried deep in the ground, conquer the ocean, or even control Gielinor's airspace? Ever wondered where are the followers of Armadyl? Could they be UP there? Stay tuned in the year 2009, and happy Scaping!

Dream on, ravian.

Bandos drops: 20 Hilt | 22 Chestplate | 21 Tassets | 14 Boots

I'd be quite happy with just familiars helping in single combat, if only at a 50% reduced rate of effectiveness.

New foods are always welcome too.

The rest is but a pipe dream lol.

Yeah I think alot of these ideas are really good, definitely like the firemaking one...

I don't really play enough anymore but I think my ideal BTS would defo include some of these points... =D>

some good ideas but don't mind me saying this... WORLD OF WARCRAFT.

the idea for mage with different types of armour is much like wows resistance and the weapons for all levels just isnt runescape

good ideas but also some "not so good" ideas

Played since February 2001

the elemental idea is there loooooong before this [cabbage]ty wow

The best idea was the defencive changes. The rest were also real good but its never gonna happen. AND jagex only do 2 updates a month so it would take a year for all your ideas to be implemented

The_Diamond.png

1593th to 99 Farming - July 08.

I like the idea of stunning people with range. Some good ideas. Though for the Christmas event, since the Halloween event (and quest) was three rewards together, maybe they'll do that with Christmas. A outfit, a weapon, and a pet. I hope so because my icicle sword was close to wining, i'd love it see it in game.

I'd like if you can aim for different spots with range.

  • [*:2wix1ttp]the leg, to stop your enemies.

[*:2wix1ttp]The heart for possibility of more damage but low accuracy.

[*:2wix1ttp]The head for possibility of an instant kill, with very very low accuracy. This will break concentration and stop the casting of ancient or lunar spells. (the killing effect never works on a player or a monster over lvl 200)

[*:2wix1ttp]The upper chest, for normal damage

[*:2wix1ttp]The stomach, for possibility you will leave your target bleeding, for extra damage from range if you hit that spot again

[*:2wix1ttp]The mouth, to stop your enemies from praying

[*:2wix1ttp]The shoulder to stop your opponent from wearing a shield (dfs and any type of spirit shield with a sigil on it will block this 100%.)

[*:2wix1ttp]The shield, to crack normal shields, again dfs and spirit shields with a sigil are immune to this. (when shield is cracked you can't use it.)

That's about it. Would definitely give range some use in pvp. Give me that update and i'll be happy.

I loved the firemaking one, the summoning one and the one with packs of monsters in multicombat areas. That's just awesome. Good job

Dragon drops: 82 (2 claws)

Dagannoth kings drops: 73

Barrows item count: 51

GWD drops: 54 (5 hilts: 1x bandos, 3x saradomin, 1x zamorak)

Whips: 4

Sigils: 1x spectral (FFA), 1x arcane (FFA)

How about one major update then 4 more updates the same week?

So like 20 updates a month? <3:<3:

*cough* and like 17 of those for f2p because right now im f2p *cough*

nice thread, it was interesting to read through it and dreaaaaam on haha

Jagex is moving at a rather slow pace with there updates nowadays...

(and i wouldnt say they were slow if they weren't as pointless as they all are...)

We've added a new high level slayer master with the requirments of 125+ cb and 85 Slayer! This master also assigns the Tzaahr race as tasks! <3:<3:<3:

Thanks to all those who have messaged me concerning a revamp of my Range-Slayer guide. Because of you all I will start rewriting it asap.[/color]

NEW SPELLS FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

potplatebody.pnggero204.png

I want level 4 clues - there's just too many rewards in level 3.

Holy wall of text.

Rule/Tutorial:

YES, PLEASE OH GOD YES. Only on the condition that Jagex actually look at the reports. Bans should be a few days up to a couple months, and if the account is An obvious flame alt, permaban for the main.

The tutorial on player etiquette should be an un-skippable cutscene. That way nobody can say "I didn't read it". All players should be teleported out of their area on login and forced to watch the cutscene, and then answer questions.

Quests: You don't have to tell me twice. 1 quest per month, pl0x.

Editorial: That sounds like a nice feature.

Random events: Yes please. I like the idea for weekly tomes of knowledge from, say, moving the exam random into the stronghold of player safety (The classroom is already there, for crying out loud). The mime should move in with the oracle, sandwich lady set up shop next to the tea salesman in Varrok, peasant farmer should take over the unused farm north of Lumbridge, etc.

Combat changes: I don't agree with the different types of damage defences.

Defense: Could you go into more detail on this?

Equipment: No. Instead of ditching your armor every 10 levels, you ditch it every 2-4? Noooooo way, armor would have virtually no difference in stats.

Totems: Wow....sounds like WoW

spell books: Uh....huh. No.

Knockback: Sign me up! In addition, rangers should also have the ability to stun and daze.

Party System: Already exists. And a 15% bonus? OH BOY, a whole... .042 extra experience per hitpoint in damage.

Equipment changes: No on the battlestaves, no on the attack requirements, no on the dark bow.

Firemaking: ...No. There are torches already in the dungeons. I know people desperately want to revive firemaking but...No. The skill has literally no benefits? Hand over the crack, you have an addiction.

Crafting: I'm intrigued.

Mining: The gem benefits better be good if they're as rare as godsword parts.

Summoning: No to summoning times, yes to single combat, yes to choosing the target, yes to running, yes to changing the click option.

Cooking: I'm intrigued.

Construction: I don't really see any problems here.

Graphics: Umm...K.

Glitches: Umm...K.

Night time: K.

Best of guild: Umm....what?

Chompy Costume: GIVE NOW PL0X.

Yearly Runescape events: I would....love this.

Christmas: A sword with stats? No way.

You really have some good ideas, I wonder if Jagex will read this and think... Hmm.

Honestly, the majority of your ideas should be added or at least seriously considered.

Agreed. I think Jagex should look at your ideas. There were many times when I was reading that the words, "If only" came to mind.

25632.jpg

Magma_Guard3.png

runescapeboomdeyadasigui7.jpg

I think the armour should be spaced a little bit more than three levels. I have many better things to do than study 40 different armours and their appearences so I know what I'm fighting. ::'

<3: **You'll now find that the crush, stab and slash bonus affects the consistency of your damage more than before! See what happens if you try to slash at someone in runite platebody!

Bad idea. Fighting in f2p takes long enough. Let alone having the rune scimitar's low efficiency lowered further.

Dragonhide leggings and vambraces now have the same defence requirement as the body.

Nope. That would be a pointless update and a bad one.

Everything else would be amazing.

*The shoe/rack section, our Technical Team is still trying to get them to store the right things, bear with us for a while.

This is the truest and most Jagex-like thing I have ever seen someone come up with. I say this is the part that is most likely to be implemented. :D

Myweponsgood.gif

Need assistance in any of these skills? PM me in game, my private chat is always ON

We've decided to take a month off from regular updates to fix bugs and glitches.
hopesolopatriot.jpg

And what about January?

February?

March?

April?

You made all the uber content in one month, now what is there for the rest of them?

Not to mention Jagex will need to triple its staff in size to add all these updates and the bug fixes after.

Half of this stuff sounds like a kids christmas list, like I could predict what was next.

+We have a bank, we dont need 50 pieces of armor stored in our house.

+More accurate hits means armors need to revamped

+Where the hell are you going to come up with that many types of armor anyway? Not to mention it will be like every other game, 900 pieces of armor, people wear maybe 20, and the best no one has. (Or no one knows what it even is!)

+Why improve guilds? Moar fr33 st00f?

+Noob rule? They are players too. There are jerks in game and in the real world, you cant baby the game just to remove these people.

+Magic; why complicate it?

+Range would be a half useful idea, but you mean to tell me that an arrow made of a bronze head and skinny wood shaft is going to knock a demon on its back after hitting a 1, its just a flesh wound...

+Random events are still needed, there are macroers. And why just give out free xp? Are you lazy?

+More monsters! Yay! Economy crash! More drops brought into the game and faster leveling. Bot parties for a main!

+More overpowered jewelery to stack with the jewelery that we already have! Joy!

+Mining; is not about luck. You dont hunt for bronze and find gold. There is some luck with the current gems, but if they are rare as treasure trail parts and GS weapons, then Ill be getting 20M for mining a lucky rock one day. Where is the risk or adventure in that?

+How would you like it if two players attacked you in single combat, would suck wouldnt it? Two attackers = multi combat. One attacker = single combat. Simple.

+Food, learned for free? No wai. 30 is a bit much. We already have problems with safing and such, sara brews work fine for healing if you need moar.

+Why do we need so many rewards for christmas? What happens next year? They are going to run out of ideas eventually.

All in all this sounds like a 5 year olds christmas list for Runescape. But I can safely say that when the BTS comes out, 99% of your ideas wont be in there, as they are overpowered, too much dev time, and, just dont fit the game.

blood_argon.gif

99 Crafting :: 39,750th || 99 Attack :: 1,775th

Probably an overhaul on Magic to make combat spells more cost effective. Right now fire bolt, the cheapest spell that does a decent amount of damage, costs as much as a crystal bow and is way weaker. And the more powerful spells, like fire wave or claws of guthix, are extremely expensive compared to melee or range.

Burst/barrage should cost the same as they do now, though.

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:
