Hatred against RSOF?

Featured Replies

I noticed that a lot of people have a grudge against the RuneScape Official Forums, saying that they're all kids and whiners.

That's just not true :| I have used the RSOF alot and the vast majority are not kids, nor are they whiners.

I think it's just a few idiots making posts every time they are in a ranty mood. As for the people on the forums being immature, that's not true for the vast majority either. If you took a random selection of threads, I doubt that you would get many kids or whiners.

Opinions? ::'

Okay, not all of them are whiny kids, but MANY of them are pures, of which many are kids.

A big part of them are kids, or just stupid. They rant about every little thing and there's loads of spam in the RSOF.

Just as you are coming here and ranting?

There was a post like this a few months back, explained it all, look for that before posting your own.

Also, the RSOF has a much higher % of posts which are sheer stupidity, flame, rants and spam than any fansite forums, its just not a pleasent place to go imo.

Agreed!

^RHQ is a very close 2nd.

Agreed once again!

It's the first forum the majority of new players (who have an average age of around 13) will find.

Common sense dictates that RSOF will be of a low quality as a result of this.

the issue with rsof is simply:

90% of threads are people whining about something, despite having whined about the exact opposite a few days b4 eg the quest reqs are too high! becomes we need more high req quests!

50% of the threads are posted in the wrong place

75% of the threads insist on things being proof or fact despite directly contradicting huge amounts of rs lore and history eg Zaros/Guthix having a gwd area behind the frozen door

75% of threads are poor duplicates of each other eg omg i like ur idea i'll psot a thread on it then the thread is "omg this idea is gr8 i like it it's posted here [insert quick find code]"

compare it to tip.it where 90% of threads are not whining, have their rs lores correct, are posted in the same place and are not duplicates. Thoose that are and usual moved or locked or deleted within the hour, where as rsof most are left unmodded or take several hours if not days to get locked

Operation Gold Sparkles :: Chompy Kills ::  Full Profound :: Champions :: Barbarian Notes :: Champions Tackle Box :: MA Rewards

Dragonkin Journals :: Ports Stories :: Elder Chronicles :: Boss Slayer :: Penance King :: Kal'gerion Titles :: Gold Statue

Compared to the total number of users, tip.it has relatively much more whiners than rsof

Most of the problems in RSOF exist because of how the forums have been built. The system allows the spam when everyone is given the possibility to start a new topic when there'd be a dozen ones about that discussion already. If there only were more moderators or if action was taken faster against those who can't use the forums properly...

This is an example of why I dislike the rsof:

I'm not ranting, I'm just trying to figure out why people hate the RS forums so much.

I think you're exaggerating a lot  Most threads are fine.

I agree that not all threads are like that, and not all RSOF users are stupid and immature, but the official forums do tend to pick up the stupidest players, as that picture clearly demonstrated.

It all comes down to where you look on the rsof.

Game feedback, there are alot of rants and whining with a few good topics in.

When, if you look at different subforums, you might stumble upon a load of good threads.

Rant topics get noticed more then good topics because people want a little laugh.

Thats my guess anyway.

I think the main issue is the poor moderation of the forums. On Tip.It, we have the easy report function which will get any bad or spammy thread locked/removed within 10 minutes. The RSOF just doesn't have time or crew to fight "spam", and the report system is horrible.

Makes sense, but it still doesn't change my mind about how many whiny people and kids there are.

The misbehaving minority is the one standing out, "good" posts aren't special enough to be speculated about on a fansite forum.

I think this may be why Jagex made a high level forum. With a small community trouble makers/idiots will quickly be discovered and people will know who they are. There is the odd good post on RSOF, but you have to sift through so much crap to find one it makes reading the forums a waste of time.

It's really not that bad, you just have to know where to look for good threads and post quality.

Though there are a lot more people using the RSOF than here there's bound to be more whiners/spammers. Also they don't have a good reporting system.

(imo) Posting a picture of one thread or idiot's post just to laugh at them brings you down to their maturity level. And I see a whole lot of spam on TIF too.

lebst.png

I actually think that the forums would be cleared of the majority of noobs pretty quickly if they actually made a decent customer support and reporting system.

I would go on it much much more if it had decent moderation.

Its like watching a donkey calling a mule an [wagon].

There are much more incredibly intelligent threads on the official forums than anywhere else related to runescape.. Its just also flooded by idiots. The more people = The more intelligent threads/post but of course the majority -the same as anywhere- will continue to be morons.

Whatever is on the official forums is simply 10000x whatever is on tipit for example.. The -over strict- moderating doesnt necessary make it better. Good moderating helps more tbh. I do tend to see better moderating on the official forums but its too much for them to handle due to sheer numbers.

edit: The official forums could indeed do with a better moderating solution though. Such as easier ways to report etc. Easier ways to manage spam for moderators than checking a thread.
