December 8, 200817 yr My native language is American English, and I know conversational Spanish. Currently, I am studying Lithuanian. I want to study Greek but the gender and cases freak me out. But I don't understand why I would be freaked out as I've attempted with some luck to learn some Serbian. I've also studied some Swedish, but I can't do much but form basic questions and count to 100. I've also tried my hands at German, French, Italian, Romanian, Dutch, Czech, Finnish, and Akkadian, but I can't manage to stick to them. I would love to study formally the Russian language, as of now I can only read and write the Cyrillic script. So what languages do you speak? What languages are you currently studying? And what languages do you want to learn? Your number one source for etymology!!
December 8, 200817 yr I did spanish for one semester last year, and I didn't do to well with memorizing it. I guess my brain didn't like the format. I'm doing Japanese this year though, and it's much easier. I'd like to learn Italian eventually. 8,325th to 99 Firemaking 3/9/08 | 44,811th to 99 Cooking 7/16/084,968th to 99 Farming 10/9/09 | Runescaper August 2005-March 2010Tip.it Mod Feb. 2008-Sep. 2008 | Tip.it Crew Sep. 2008-Nov. 2009

December 8, 200817 yr I took Spanish 1 and 2, getting very high grades in both of them. However, I pretty much forgot everything since only about 1% of what I learn at school sticks with me. As for languages I want to learn, none. I don't plan on communicating with people of a different ethnicity because I don't really plan on traveling outside of the US. Maybe Greek if I'm feeling ambitious just for fun.
December 8, 200817 yr English and just speaking Russian Taking Spanish right now. Not really to good at it. If you do things right people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

I dunno I hope I am good in my English I just have a weird accent  ) Studied: Latin (1 year) Japanese(2 years). For Japanese I just want to learn how to read and understand it, dunno about speaking it. I know I have a boatload of Kanji coming my way but eh, oh well. Do you think my English is good enough? Wongton is better than me in anyway~~
December 8, 200817 yr My native language is English. I studied Spanish for 3 years and French for 1 year. I enjoyed Spanish because it was simple. All the letters are pronounced and only a few letter combinations have different sounds. French was hard for me because of all the silent/unpronounced letters. Internet Marketing For Newbies
December 8, 200817 yr The only language I speak is English. Unfortunately I don't study any other language, as it would interfere with my preferences of jobs when I am older. I took French last year, and I hated it :-X My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

December 8, 200817 yr My parents are Chinese so they generally speak Cantonese to me at home (I try to speak back in Chinese but it comes out as what we call "Chingrish"; fragmented Chinese with half English.) Soooo, my main language is English, but I can speak some Cantonese. December 8, 200817 yr Je parle en français parce que j'étudié pour cinq années à l'école, mais je ne parle pas français très bien parce que je n'ai pas fait les études après l'école à la college*. Oh God, it's been three years since I last used French! I don't even think that's right. To think I got an A at GCSE level too. [hide=*]It's meant to read: I speak French because I studied for five years at school, but I do not speak French well because I did not study at college after school.[/hide] | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
December 8, 200817 yr Native language is Norwegian, which means I can speak Swedish and Danish by default. Fluent in English (God knows how many years in school, plus spent a year in the states as an exchange student). Speak some German, and know of enough Spanish and Dutch to read menus, order beer, food and taxis  Did study Russian for a year back in high school but only thing I remember is the alphabet, some very simple phrases and for some reason the word for window  Tried to take a course in Italian this semester, but work kept interfering :( But hopefully I learnt enough to survive when going to Rome next easter. I really like learning languages. Hopefully one day I'll get around to learn some more, atleast well enough to survive on a tourist-y level. Ty Jeppoz for making it. Thx to the Pup for finding it after it got lost :D And thx to Kill_Life and Turtle for the ava. Stoltenberg, 22/7-11: "We will retaliate with more democracy" In remembrance of Oslo/Utøya. December 8, 200817 yr Yeah, if you can speak one of the Scandanavian German based languages, you basically know all of them. But Finland has to be different, of course.
December 8, 200817 yr Native fluent in Serbian/Croatian and Finnish, 95% fluent in swedish Fluent spoken/written in English and Russian Knowledge and spoken ability in Italian, studied Japanese earlier. Objectives: Still trying to learn mandarin chinese and arabic. It will take a (long) while but definitely worth the time investment.
December 8, 200817 yr Native is English, I can't speak any others. I don't really have any interest in learning other languages, I have no need to. Although I would like to learn Italian, I think that would be pretty cool. And Klingon.
December 8, 200817 yr fluent in english and hindi BUT, have studied japanese, french, latin and indonesian to a very basic level But am mildy fluent in german, currently learning, and have been doing for over 3 years
December 8, 200817 yr Native fluent in Serbian/Croatian and Finnish, 95% fluent in swedish Fluent spoken/written in English and Russian Wow, Finnish, Swedish, English, and Russian are just the languages I would want to speak. And maybe Latvian. I should probably mention that I've wasted 7 1/2 years on Finnish, hard as crap and I don't feel like I've gotten anywhere.

And maybe Latvian. I should probably mention that I've wasted 7 1/2 years on Finnish, hard as crap and I don't feel like I've gotten anywhere. I only know it because my mother spoke it to me since birth & I lived there. It would be a lie to recommend it to any foreigners, because it's an extremely isolated language just like hungarian. It has quite a few loanwords from germanic languages and russian, but the language structure is, as you said "hard as crap". It's admirable you're trying to learn such a language, but really nobody will blame you if you don't. I never have any use for it except if I chat with finnish people online or visit my relatives. Haven't used it in even a single business or official occassion. What's extremely fascinating though, is how similar finnish and swedish cultures are (almost identical, actually), how similar they are also physically, yet they have so different languages. Swedish is an easy language to pick up in comparison
December 8, 200817 yr I'm fluent in Dutch (native language) and English and I can speak a fair bit of French and a little German. I took Spanish courses, but didn't stick to it. I also study Latin and (ancient) Greek, but that's translating only.
December 8, 200817 yr I speak American English, native, but I'm relatively capable of an Italian speaker. My Spanish is more reading and writing, but I have my American accent nearly eliminated. I have to take two years of Spanish, though. :/ I also know some Cherokee. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
December 8, 200817 yr My mother tongue is English, I'm studying German and French for GCSE but I won't take them any further.
