Seriously, I remembered months ago where they'd air a HSM ad every commercial. Now THAT got me annoyed. I don't think Miley nor the J Bros are as overrated as HSM though. I don't know why everyone gets up in arms about Disney and the marketing with Miley and JB. It's not meant to appeal to 16 year old males - not everything does.

How many of you like metal now, used to listen to pop music as kids? Be honest now.

 

 

 

I actually listened to classical music, The Beatles, Earth Wind & Fire, etc when I was a kid. Since during most of my childhood I didn't have cable, I couldn't get that exposed to boybands. Only time I heard a Backstreet Boys song was from a Burger King promo. If you ordered the kids meal, you would get a cd and a toy, all related to Backstreet Boys of course. (I believe I have the now chewed up toy somewhere). I never listened to hard rock/metal/alternative rock till a couple years ago.

If there's something that's overrated it's 'good taste'. I'd rather have a 13 year old listen to Hannah Montana than AC/DC.

Seriously. Evertbody should listen to what they want to. It is that I got a problem with bands such as AC/DC, the Eagles and more of that type of stuff. It's music that's generally considered to be 'good taste'. And people like to yap on about it. But in reality it is just very uninteresting and lifeless music that in no way challenges the listener. I'd rather listen to a so-called bad record than a so-called good record.

It's kind of hard to give an answer to that question, because with a lot of things that I love I also got a passion for that what is the complete opposite of it. I could say that I love intimate, small and honest music, but at the same time I love things that almost drown in excess. I could say that I love originality, but I can also say that I hate originality. I guess that what it comes down to is that it has to have some life into it.

Music elitism is annoying . . . Most of this forum listens to some kind of metal (do not even START on the sub-genre crap) and treats it like the ideal of what all music should be. I don't like metal. Must make me some kind of unenlightened serf.

 

 

 

Personally I think Miley/the Jonas Brothers are terrible and the latter in particular have no musical talent at all, but you're not going to hear me calling them down for targeting a different audience and making money. I'll be content with saying they suck.

Someone said their sister LOVES Joe. Yeah I hate him. Don't mind Kevin or Nick though... At least they're better role models (so far...) than Britney & Jamie Spears, Lindsay Lohan...

 

 

 

Plus they're attempting to do some good. The Jonas Brothers have a charity set up to give money to kid's causes, and Nick does a lot of promoting diabetes awareness (cause he has it).
