Personally, I'm an absolutist. I probably wouldn't have a problem with a glass of wine, however, the little wine I've tasted tasted really awful. One reason I don't drink at all though is first of all, people of my religion consider it very shameful to be drunk. (Something I strongly agree with.) That leads to another reason I don't, and that is that here, compared to the US at least, people really drink to get drunk. It is that reputation that makes it a better thing for me to stay away. In Denmark and Sweden, people of my religion might have a glass of wine, or at the most a small amount of beer after dinner. That's because in the areas they live in, drinking is a social thing.

Personally I have no desire whatsoever to drink, let alone get intoxicated. I have seen far too many people extremely drunk, and I think there's a certain amount of subconscious connection between those two things. That said, I have very easy access to alcohol (Through my friends, one of which I fear is developing a drinking problem before he's even 15) but have no intentions of taking advantage of that.

I cannot stand any variety of wine. It all has a strong taste, that simply causes me to shudder. I cannot bear beer (\') either, also a bad taste in my eyes. The only alcohol I do drink is Desorano, and that has to be mixed with Coca-Cola. :P I might grow into liking more varieties of alcohol when I grow older, but I don't really seem to think I will. :?

I like any sort of beer as long as it's not equivalent to pisswater.

Can't really drink Wine after a bad experience with it, psychologically wretch if I taste it.

I can't drink straight spirits over 35% or I tend to throw it back up :| If they're done with the right mixer I can drink them like water though. Favorite spirit drink would be Jaegarbombs, It's a shot of Jaegarmeister and 2 shots of redbull, it's amazing.

Ciders are nice but I tend to prefer beers, after the 4th or 5th pint it tastes way to sweet for my liking.

Guinness, can't stand the stuff.

Absinte......that stuff destroys you if you take more than 2-3 shots straight.

Baileys is lovely. Glenmorangie (single malt whisky) is also exceptionally nice. I'm not fussy when it comes to beers and lagers, although Black Sheep is a favourite of mine. Not a huge fan of cider, although it's nice in the summer. Don't really drink wine, I might get into it.

There is nothing wrong with alcohol, provided you do not get intoxicated. Unfortunately, a huge number of people feel it's "fun" to drink for the express purpose of getting drunk and this usually ends up in really crappy things happening to them or those around them.

The reason we have a drinking age is because most people who are under that age are not responsible enough to handle the responsibility of alcohol. Before you go off attacking me for this, look at college students. These guys are just below to well above the drinking age, yet are TERRIBLE with how they drink alcohol. Some die from overdrinking, some die because others were overdrinking, and a LOT of them do really stupid things to ruin theirs or someone else's lives. Working as an RA I had to deal with a lot of guys and gals who screwed themselves or someone else over (sometimes literally) due to the effects of alcohol.

Unfortunately like every law, the drinking age can be easily circumvented.

That being said, aside from binge drinking there is not much wrong with alcohol. I myself really dislike wine because I don't like the taste of alcohol. I prefer beverages like margaritas, Baileys, and Guinness where the alcohol is masked by something else. I also drink in extreme moderation.

Brandy and champagne are something I don't mind at the occasional social function. Beer aside from Guinness tastes like what it is, fermented grass.

All too true, I can't think of anything to add other than my experience has shown me just that.

Wine seems like a bit of a hobo's drink. Allot of bottled wines are cheaper than bottled water, we have ALLOT of wineries in my state. I would rather a beer any day.

I more or less only drink beer, sometimes whisky but very rarely wine.

My parents have put me off of drinking and smoking cigarrettes anyway :|

My dad on the other hand virtually drinks beer all the time. I asked him one time and he says he actually enjoys it  [/tangent]

On a serious note, my mum just drinks wine to get drunk. My dad never stops drinking beer just cause he likes the taste.

I dont need a siggy no moar.

I hate beer for some reason or other. But I'm fond of wine.

I used to like a bit of red wine but over the festive holiday period I've become partial to White Wine Spritzers (white wine + lemonade) or even any type of Spritzers. I'm drinking a non-alcoholic version now, Elderflower and Grape Spritzer.

Very fruity :P

As for distinguishing between different types of wine, I don't have a clue. They all taste the same to me.

As James May once said "It tastes sort of... winey"

I love Baccardi and Malibu. I like mixing [cabbage] with vodka and rum. But no, I never got "wasted" ever. I don't think I'll let myself get to that point, lol. Too scared of the people around me if I end up knocked out.

I hate beer. Tried it as much brands as I can, it tastes like [cabbage] to me. Wine's alright. I don't get the whole "fine dining" with wine either. It's just weak alcohol imo. Champagne is fun to open though.

I don't mind most alcohols. Apparently I drink a lot of alcoholic drinks without noticing them. For example, a few days ago the family was at a Mexican restaurant, and I apparently ordered a frozen margarita. I couldn't read it, so I just pointed at it, and he gave it to me. I thought it was a slushie or something. It tasted like one.

I don't like most beers, though. Favorite drink is probably Jack Daniel's and Dr. Pepper (my own twist on Jack & Coke). I'll probably end up like my brother, a bit of a social drinker that can handle anything.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

I don't like the taste of alcohol to be honest :|

I only like Vodka, Whiskey and a couple of other strong spirits. At someone's new years party, some idiots got completely drunk, and some of the stupidest there mixed drinks, and threw up purple all night. Ironically on the TV an advert came on for drinking too much just as he was throwing up \'

I pity people who drink just to get drunk. Wine is one of the finer things in life, and alchohol has a history dating back literally thousands of years.

I would never buy a crate because it's cheap. When I drink socially, I don't aim to get drunk, I aim to have a nice time. Drinking just coke wouldn't make a difference to me, it's the experience, not getting wasted.

I'm in the same boat as Laura. When it comes down to it, I absolutely hate the taste of alcohol. Period. I know it's all about "having the refined taste" but that hasn't happened to me yet and I really don't think it will. I get the cheap stuff because I honestly don't see that much of a difference in taste when it comes to the "good stuff" and "bad stuff".

I don't understand people who drink not to get drunk.

1. Every alcoholic form it's an aquired taste, so you don't even enjoy what you're drinking until years later.

2. ITS FREAKING POISON. You don't sip on rat poison and discuss it's taste, you chug it down and embrace the effects. ::'

I can distinguish between cheap and expensive wines, but honestly I don't see what the big deal is. That's why if the only option for drinks at a restaurant is wine, I always order the cheapest bottle. I prefer exploring mixes of beer and hard alcohol, sorta like jaggerbombs or irish car bombs. Way more exciting \'

Whats the difference between red and white anyway? :|

Don't you know the first rule of MMO's? Anyone higher level than you has no life, and anyone lower than you is a noob.

I find adding light spirit to the coke removes certain inhibitions you would normally have. Great for getting to meet new people when you're as shy as a hedgehog in headlights.

I'd never get drunk week in, week out though. I pity for people who feel they have to get drunk that often just to make life bearable.

As for wine... can't stand it.

Wow

If you're serious, the tastes, colors, grapes used, often vineyards concentrate on one or the other...Lots of differences.

White is made using normal green grapes, red using... red grapes.

White wine needs to be chilled, and is normally more refreshing and dry.

Red wine is more 'full bodied' and fruity, and has more tannin in it, a chemical that comes from the grape. You keep red wine at room temperature.

1. Not entirely true. First time drinking in Germany I enjoyed it. Of course, German beer is great. Then the first time I had Vodka as well I didn't mind it. Really strong bite to it but I liked that.

2. It's not poison. May as well call soda a poison as well because it can have adverse effects on you.

Actully the very essence of Alcohol is a poison, but unlike your common household ones, It's fermented to give both taste but also texture to it and dull its concentration amount down.

"Responsable Service of Alcohol" Course, not only do I get to serve behind bars but you learn a few things when your a novice in the drinking world. ;)
