The "small updates" should include gameplay updates to existing skills. That would make them so asome. But if they're just going to be useless little things like updating clues I don't really care.

I might start to train Fishing again after the 5 minute update \' . And if I lag out while monster hunting I'm screwed anyway because I only sara  . So that's not an issue for me.

I hope the Phoenix update will match killing Bork in usefulness. Half my charms come from that guy <3: .

Another achievement diary: Eww. Seriously, they're not fun at all and they don't introduce something new. The only diary I liked was the Karamja one, and that's because a teleport to Shilo village was something we really needed. for Jagex lazyness, I want a GOOD update.

Plus I think the whole teenage girl thing will end soon (hopefully), because my girlfriend is absolutely in love with him(she is 18), and im beginning to feel threatened by his [Justin Bieber] dashing looks.

Guys please hear me out. Reason the timer were increased is because players don't wanna go for 1 minute and come back to see their account logged out...

But at places that's dangerous, we won't go for 1 minute...at least that will happend in rare ocasions.

So it wouldn't it be only logical that this 5 minute timer was for safe spots only?

An upgrade year :o Thats like an old schoolers dream!

EDIT:

Mobilising Armies

Weve reported before that we planned to release Mobilising Armies, our new tactical minigame, in December. Weve found that although we could release it, we really want to take our time to make this the best update we can, so we made the difficult choice to hold onto it until next year. Weve never ever tried to release a game like this before, and we want to make sure we get it right. So, youll have to wait a little longer for your gnomic glider bombers, pigeon messengers, dragons hoards and catapult attacks.

It says "Next year" not January, sorry to burt your bubbles

What's this with the NEW head of Runescape?

Has there been some sort of change I'm not aware of?

It's likely that Andrew has moved on to supervise the new MMO this year, likely Mechscape.

Sounds like a lot of spin. Call me a cynic, but I read "update year" as "not that much new content" year. Since this year will likely coincide with the release of Mechscape, RS could quickly look a little old-newsish if Jagex doesn't appear to be focusing its efforts.

With that being said, it may not be that bad of a thing to slow content rollout. While it's always fun to see new things to kill or chase or whatever, I think that the game is PACKED with good stuff to do and stressing quality over quantity could be a good strategy for a year's operation.

I don't think we'll see any new skills (good, don't need any), and am not sure we'll see any new major map rollouts in terms of new territory. Eastern Lands should probably hit the front page, since it's been teased to hell.

It wont be safe spots only because it wont need to be. As someone mentioned above, the combat anti-log out device works differently than the normal log out. If you are in combat and dc (stop pinging back to the server) the game initiates a 30 second auto logout EVEN if you are in combat.

I noticed this once in a pvp world. Someone I was fighting logged WHILE i was fighting them. They d/c'ed, the timer kicked in, and they disconnected while in combat 30 seconds later regardless of the combat situation.

So the 5 min timer wont really increase your chances of being killed in a combat situation upon d/c at all. It will only increase the chances a random will get you, which wont matter anyways because when you d/c the client disconnects you upon loss of ping replys.

So the 5 min timer wont hurt anything really. If you get in combat from a random right before you d/c, the game will auto log you 30 seconds later after the pings stop regardless.

So 5 minutes is a good thing

As for updates, looks like a great year, and a good month. I cant wait for them to update minigames ::' I got a bunch of good ideas for those.

Good theory, but realize that Runescape content and Mechscape content are 100% independant. They have a completely different staff working on each game. Mechscape might take a little testing priority over Runescape, but the content developers are all there.

To be honest, we need this. Why worry about constant new development when the old game needs work?

I understand that, but in all likelihood the two teams probably came from similar / same pools, so it's very likely that some MechScape staff was pirated from Runescape staffers, who then dedicate 100% of their time to Mechscape. Two Java games, both MMORPGs, similar target audience... Jagex would be CRAZY not to use existing expertise. They would never announce this was done, but the changing in the guard for "Head of RS Vince" speaks volumes.

It's not to say that Runescape is being abandoned in any respect, but I think that there should/ will always be a connection between Mechscape and Runescape, whether stated or not.

I agree with you on the new content vs. existing game development front. Skills like mining and smithing have been in DIRE need of help for a long time (and the new animation is a mining killer!). While things like star mining are nice auxiliary boosters, they certainly don't stand in for detail overhauls.

sounds nice, i like little updates with some headliners, customiseable spell lists and things will be good, last year didnt disappoint, surely this one wont either looking forward to it

Anyway, looks like a good month, and a good year. Updating and re-designing existing content is good in my books. Not sure about the spells tab, I like the spells where they are - it took me a while to get used to their positions. However, I like the sound of the rest of it; especially the Pheonix. ::'

this month well be increasing the length of the auto-logout timer from the current 90 seconds to about 5 minutes,

This be the best update of the new year for sure :o

Mmm, wonder where mobilizing armies went..

I'm absolutely not worried about mobilising armies atm. I'm as excited for the upgrades as for the new content! Re-ordering spells, increasing the log out timer, a helpful look over of the censor(everyone in sodb clan chat knows EXACTLY how I feel about the censor lol). And also this:

Rewards include additional experience when cutting down maple trees, and a handy flax picker (similar to Bert, who collects buckets of sand for you after the Hand in the Sand quest).

Does this mean could be a better option for powertraining than willows?(Doubt it as willows are so fast but there's a possibility). And a flax picker! This combined with MTK could bring in serious profits.

I'm also more than a little excited about the phoenix(looks at avatar)

Edit: Whoops changed avatar for the holidays, changing back shortly.

Pirate Rosetta stone. Learn a language while you scape.

Sounds interesting, but these days how many people really speak Pirate?

nope more flax in the game that people can get freely a day means flax will decrease dramatically, i think theyre trying to help out people abit because of the cost of fletching these days (havent done it so just taking a blind swipe)

But flax will fall.

Off topic- a random portal in the chaos tunnels just turned me into a cotton toastie.

Good point. Well, this could lead to profits, or at least loss, in alching then.

I hope you can get rid of some useless spells. It's a little bit confusing if you open the spellbook and see 100 spells to choose from. There are many ways you could change the spellbook. Look at the bank change last year. Tabs for spellbook doesn't sound bad. Also some bigger icons would be nice if you choose to erase some spells. I hope Jagex has enough good ideas for it.

I think that the idea of an 'update year' is a good one. I'd like to se the existing content improved more than new content released.

Xezalb.png

It's good to be back.

I HOPE THEY UPDATE THE SKILLS. WE NEED MORE CONNECTION BETWEEN THEM ALL.

But seriously, I really really hope they give all the skills a good look. A lot of skills are outdated because big and better things have come, and I hope they look how players use the skills and WHY they use the skills. No one thieves paladins anymore because its not worth it.

I am glad they are going to update the outdated parts of runescape.

Because who seriously still does Salarin the Twisted? Or Mining for money in members for that matter.

There's just too many outdated bits, and I don't mind a usefull mining/thieving/agility/firemaking/woodcutting/smithing/crafting/runecrafting/fishing/cooking/hunter/slayer update.

anybody can edit wikipedia.. so never trust it, but he did step down from the head of runescape i heard about this somewhere too, someone from paypal or something? this is the main reason for merchandise imo, and also he still owns jagex ltd, think its mainly to do with the future release of mechscape and overseeing both these 2 on going projects + funorb.

Seers diary? Sweet. I wonder what piece we'll get from this one...I predict helm. And flax pickers sounds great, although I think if the daily number is significant, flax prices are goin' down.

5-minute logout timer = \'

Were even looking back over our old word lists, to remove words accidentally starred-out in chat.

Does this mean I'll be able to say my completely non-offensive name in chat again? I can only hope...

The only thing about this BTS I don't like is that the only quest mentioned is the Phoenix tutorial. Oh well, I guess we can't have WGS every month.
