My parents won't let me..

Featured Replies

[hide=Original post.]So. I want to pierce my nose. My parents won't even let me pierce my ears. So there's no way I can just change the location to the center of my face. I'm sixteen. How do I go about getting them to let me? My friend says that I have to stand up for myself and argue. And that I need to eventually reach the boiling point. Otherwise, I'll never be able to do anything they do not approve of.

Any suggestions? And I'm not going "OMGZZZ, MY PARENTS ARE SO BAD!" I understand their side. But I think they should let me do what I want to do, as long as it's not unhealthy or really life-altering. Ya dig?[/hide]

We can still continue the discussion about whether I should pierce my nose. And if I should attempt to compromise with my parents, or do it and see what their reaction is. But now I want to know what your parents don't let you do so we can dicuss more than facial piercings and how "gay" they are. It can be buying M rated videogames, watching R rated movies, to piercings, clothing, driving.. ANYTHING.

Why the hell do you want to get your nose pierced anyways?

Also, your friend is an idiot.

Seriously. HEY GUYS I'M GONNA STAB METAL IN MY FACE. WILL YOU LOVE ME NOW.

Naw, that's mean. But you are shoving metal in your face plausibly due to peer pressure or pressure put on you by society's normal view of "cool" or "hip". When all you need to be cool is to stay off of drugs!

The more you know!

Uh, yeah. Anyways. On a lighter note. Carrying on. You could...Get one of those magnetic piercings?

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Honestly, why do you want to get your nose pierced? It looks unattractive, and frankly, disgusting. If you're parents won't let you then you have to abide that, and do what they say, or at least until you leave home. If you do get your nose pierced, then your parents won't trust you ever again, and I can assure you, that they will come down harder on you.

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

How about wait until you're 18. Alternatively, follow your friend's terrible advice and get smacked in the face. "Stand up to yourself and argue", oh lordy.

Oh and piercing your nose makes you look like a major douche.

Your parents pay your taxes, rent, food, schooling, phone, allowance, etc. That's why they can tell you what to do and what not to. Feel free to ditch them off and all those nice goodies so you can look like a [wagon].

You will look like a loser if you do get one, and borderline gay.

Listen to your parents, they know what they're on about.

But if you do really want one, 'arguing and standing up for yourself like a real man' really isn't the way to go. Say you'll pay for it. Be calm and reasonable. If you think if you argue with your parents you'll get what you want, think again.

You'll just end up distanced from your parents with a pierced nose.

Three months banishment to 9gag is something i would never wish upon anybody, not even my worst enemy.

OMG I know what you mean, my Mom won't let me get my eyebrow pierced, she won't even let me get my ear pierced. Ridiculous.

Tell her this:

"It's my face, if I want to ruin my nose so be it, it'll be my problem, not your's." Or something along those lines.

I'm trying to get my eyebrow pierced for my birthday. (In March)

I told her that's all she needs to give me, and It'll be my best birthday ever. :D

Their house, their rules. You don't get to talk them in to letting you. So long as you're living under their roof they do get to decide whether you get your nose pierced or a tattoo. I like piercings and tattoos but keep in mind if you can't keep them to workplace regulations and in discrete places, you're never going to get a good job. Especially not in hospitality, it's a health hazard. So what do you do? Unfortunately get over it and wait until you have your own place to live in. THEN, if you want to ruin your employment opportunities, by all means please do.

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

Meh, piercing is overrated. Most of my friends have it and tell me I should consider getting it. But it seems troublesome for some reason. One of them tells me it gets infected really easily and it smells like [cabbage].

Not to mention it screws you over with job interviews and such.

Yes interviews for jobs may be difficult, but with a studded nose piercing they will most likely accept it.

And yes, plastic piercings smell like crap.

but if you get a clear peircing, they work real good so no one will see them.

why would you even want to pierce your ears, let alone your nose? all just because your being told by your stupid (yes, they sound stupid) friends to do so.

^ very good advice.

if you are lame enough to still want it done though, go with your friends advice and argue. that way it will never happen and in a few years you can look back and say "Thank god my parents didnt let me get that done!"

What happens if you do get the piercing, what is you school going to say about it? What benifits will it bring you? Self esteem for "being a rebel".

EDIT:

Pierced noses look gay, especially on a dude. Why you think it'd look cool/attractive, I don't know....

No dude. any kind of piercing on a guy makes it VERY hard to win over a possible boss, especially when the job requires a face-to-face interaction with the customer. not impossible, but highly unlikely. trust me on this.

Nose piercing = perfect piercing if your a goth / emo and want to make a very weak form of a statement of "rebellion", all it will do is make you look more of a [bleep]. Seriously, furthest south a piercing should go on any guy is eyebrow piercing.

If I was your parents I'd say the exact same thing.

Maybe, maybe not. Studs are less "in your face" piercings and it can also be religious (hindu women wear em iirc)
