Some guy traded me and showed me 97M CASH, he believed he wouldn't get banned if he traded for coins because jagex can easily detect xp gains.

(he traded around 1500 points).

WOW...

Does the conversion rate depend on anything or is it uniformal for everyone?

XP is Points * Level * 25.

In other words, 2.5 times as much XP as a Genie Lamp.

Okay, could someone please explain exactly how the points to cash or points to experience conversion works? I don't understand how people could possibly get a 99 off of this in such a short period of time unless they were already well into the 90s...

10% more people have 99 RuneCraft? Seriously?

I interpreted that as "10% more people have gained 99 rc then on a normal day". Doesn't seem all that much to me off from the average to me. However, that vid showed how much is was abused, so I'm not really sure. Could it be done in every world, or was it only on one? Because if every world was as busy as that vid, maybe 10% more people have 99rc indeed.

Owh and of course they should all be banned and all that blah, but I didn't feel like creating a post just for saying what everyone has said before me already.

What I meant earlier in this thread is that 10% more people got 99 runecrafting than there originally was. So if originally there was 1000 people with 99 rc there would now be 1100 people with it; a 10% increase in just one day. Runecrafting is a hard skill to train and 100 people in one day is just insane, even if they already had like lvl 91 rc.

shouldnt get banned for it tbvh jagex made a mistake and overlooked somthing enabling a glitch to occur if a glitch happens and you dont know what happened and you go about its not really a big deal. i guess my question/statement is why should you get banned for jagex's faults "aka any glitch that has ever happened and people get banned because people whine and spam @@@@ because they dont know how to do it.

Cheating is cheating...

This game revolves around following the rules. Hell, there's a place to get boots, emotes, and cash from answering questions regarding rules. Free trade, wilderness PKing, staking, and such were removed because of people cheating.

Those people should be permantly banned along with IP banned.

It's just not fair... For us players. It was a small mistake on Jagex's part (every gaming business makes mistakes or "niggles" once in a while) and those scum players exploited it.

And if I didn't know better it seems you abused the glitch as well...

Summary: [bleep] your inferior opinion.

:( i think i just got forum pwnt but no i didnt do pengs was to busy failing at pvp drop trick (yes it is legitimate i dont care what people say) but i never do pengs anyways on a wednesday for obvious reason #1 ALL PENG CC ARE FULL i just got a pm about it (how a learned about it but didnt do it) from a certain tifer "i haz 3k+ points" no names lol

cheating is cheating ya i get that part tbh it seems like doing that glitch took to much effort u have to go back and forth but ya hope that answers your qestions and get lost grammar trolls

I was almost going to be a grammar nazi in my post but I decided not to so what you said shouldn't apply to me... Unless you can read minds... Then I'm leaving...

I wonder if the people who were abusing glitch could use Contact NPC to cash in points from Larry while staying at penguin. It would make getting Slayer/Runecrafting (and other slow skills) exp extremely fast... I don't think its that much effort to tele to Ardy, walk to zoo, cash in points, then tele to spot again and spy more... Lot easier than running back and forth from an alter for minuscule exp.

P.S. Sorry if you feel I forum pwnt you, I just thought your points were illogical and just plain stupid.

meh w/e could ppl stop using the word grammar nazi or just nazi in general im not gonna be a whining kid here but it kinda offends me because of my religious backround and the way its used in context not specificaly 3rkid but just in general

You're German?

I really hope Jagex follows through and bans the holy **** out of these bug abusing scum. Anyone who argues that they should not be banned I don't give a damn who you are, I'm gonna go ahead and say you abused the bug and you are afraid of being banned. Whoever DID abuse this bug knows god damn well they were abusing a bug cause when they did penguins last week it wasn't possible to get this many points. So why in the HELL would they "think" it's possible to get this many points now?

I will state for the record that I don't think there should be perm bans over this.

We need a more creative "scarlet letter."

How about rolling back the ill-gotten XP and then freezing the skill so that the miscreants can't advance it at all for some period of time ( a month, 3 months, a year)?

Make the punishment fit the crime.

How is a permanent ban not a suitable punishment for BUG ABUSE.

Actually the glitchy penguin was hanging out around the Legends Guild and the mine near by.

Really? I thought the glitchy penguin was the one with the hint being south of ardy? But it doesn't really matter.

Eh, I'm just glad that I don't hunt penguins... I know I would've definitely abused the glitch . Shame on me.

Keep in mind, these people didn't get out of bed Wednesday morning scheming on how they'd beat the penguins for a million XP. They saw a windfall opportunity and made a bad choice. It's not like it was premeditated.

It's not like in the old days when people sat around and studied for weaknesses in the packet data to duplicate items and create wealth. Those were premeditated schemes and deserved lifetime bans.

The players who walked into the penguin fiasco made a bad snap decision and should not get lifetime bans. Punishments, yes. Rollbacks, yes. But not lifetime bans.

That was me. Here it is again, well, some of it.

We are going to be taking action against those players who deliberately tried to con XP out of the poor innocent penguins.

Obviously, identifying who did what and how badly they did it is going to take a little time, but rest assured that we ARE looking into it, and that these people won't get away with it.

I know that a few of you are worried that players that genuinely didn't know this was a bug will be caught up in the action, however, there are ways of telling who has innocently clicked on the bushes a couple of extra times and who has hammered their mouse button into infinity. We'll keep this in mind, as we always do.

It's really sad when players think they can race up the XP ladder by cheating like this, and I know that many of you are upset because you've spent a lot of time levelling your skills.

Let us deal with it, and we'll let you know how we got on.

Thanks to everyone who sent in bug reports about this. You're legendary.

Cheers.

I get the feeling that that guy just got a free 97M. The GE graphs of godswords (yes, I know there is a rising trend with them already) and the amount of partyhats traded will tell me if I'm right.

Even though JaGEx is telling us that they will ban those who abused the bug they might be tempted to let the people who got <500k exp in any single skill go. These people are paying cutstomers and JaGEx has never really mass banned anything but bots paying with stolen credit cards. I'm going to look at the GS prices and the phats traded on GE as indicators on how thouroughly JaGEx goes about finding all penguin point bug abusers invisible to the community, both those who cashed in points for gp and those who didn't rub the bug abuse in everyones face with 1M+ exp in a single skill.

I would have rather had a rollback with bans for anybody who got say 1M+ exp clearly through bug abuse. That way all the trades with ill gained gp and any benefits however small would be clearly and completely erased with some of the more blatant bug abusers loosing their accounts for good. There could also have been a small newspost similar to those regarding RWT bans that show some stats of the accounts that were lost, like how long they have been logged in in total. Oh well, I guess I'll do a couple of searches for partyhats on GE and see how well JaGEx did with this one.

That's good news. I wouldn't mind if it took therm a month as long as it was taken care of. Do you have the QFC?

You have to figure how tedious their jobs get; they have to brighten it in up in some sort of fashion. Apparently since today they were forced into clean up of this mess they didn't get to play in the break room to ease the stress from work (and from what I hear the break room is pretty nice).

On topic: It was a large mess probably caused from a minor mistake in the code or something of the sort. These things are bound to happen in one way or another and we shouldn't expect that each update is fully perfect. I think they are dealing with the situation well considering the mass of chaos created from the issue, it will just take time.

Sc.png

I highly doubt anyone even got over 20 M cash doing this, let alone anything over 50 M. As said before, you get 6.5k per point. By guessing that this applied to the bug too, the telescope thing and cheering emote will activate every time you spy on a penguin. Meaning you'd probably only get 1 point per 10 seconds (from what I've heard it was the Eagle's Peak penguin). In one hour of clicking non stop you'd get:

6 x 60 x 6500 = 2 340 000 (coins)

Though you'd have to cash them in often, since you can only hold 50 points at a time if I'm not mistaken. Unless this bug ran for many hours, you wouldn't get as much to afford a GS. Maybe Bandos.

How long did this thing last?

But yes, it's very unfair towards honest players that people could just earn EXP like this. Permanently banning these people would seem a bit too harsh, because they were tempted into doing this. A better solution would be a rollback and ban them for a month or something. Yet another big Runescape scandal though.

Magic: Owne D U Ar gained 2,898,750 exp on January 28th, 2009. No hp exp, graph shows it happening all at once ALONG with 111k str exp.

This is thanks to the runescript tracker, on the records all time for most exp in a day.

I'm guessing it must have lasted for quite a while if 3M exp was possible to be claimed. This player got to 90 Magic and Strenght that day. (He's still visible on highscores as well as Red_Jude and all the other clear bug abusers, so they haven't been banned.) I guess one could calculate how much gp he could have got if he traded all the points for gp.

Well I did a quick rough calculation and I no longer think there are many people who have enough cash for partyhats thanks to bug abuse. Maybe godswords though depending greatly on how long the glitch ran.

Rao.png

Deliberately bug abuse and you get banned. This was established waaay back in '01.

Has ANYONE been banned already? Does someone know? (No need to name names or whatever, just the general knowledge)

I think they'll all be banned at same time, and a list posted on the official page or atleast 100 players have been banned for abusing poor penguins

smellysockssigbyblfazer.png
I personally believe zero tolerance for exploiting something like this, if jagex allows people to get away with this again, because i know bugs like this have happened before and people have gotten away with it then, they may aswell make macros legal, if this bug is fair and they want to promote cheating then they should compensate the people who didnt abuse the bug, i know a few people who jumped alot of xp yesterday that isnt possible so i'm keeping an eye on those people and if they don't get banned it shows how the rules are bent.

Scenarios such as my 7.6 blackmarks for not doing anything close to this yet people who exploit a serious bug, enjoy your xp and no black marks, thanks for the "special" treatment.

I seriously hope they track them and make it front page news saying this is what you get step in line we dont want to see it again.

Jagex have seriously CABBAGED up on a few occasions already this year, making 30m a day off flatpacks for fremmy diarys, now this, jeeze test your content.
