I referee, but I only get paid every 5 or 10 weeks, and I think I might just be a last resort to my assignor -.-

 

 

 

I've been thinking of maybe applying to a McDonald's or Dunkin' Donuts, because (I think) they can hire at 14. But in this economy, and I've never had a job before...

 

 

 

Any advice or tips? Any places that hire at 14?

My advice would be to wait til your 15. There's a lot more work you can get. And why do you need money so badly?

McDonalds doesn't hire at 14. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's illegal in most states without certain documentation.

In most places its illegal to work until you are 16.

 

 

 

If you really need/want to, go apply, but don't get your hopes up cause of your age and cause of the 'recession'. I would try and find odd jobs around the neighbourhood.

You can try to get a job babysitting. It seems to work for my female friends...

it's not that easy to get a job even if you are legal because of the current economy. people are getting laid off left and right

Since I declare that you can't possibly have such dire need of money RIGHT NOW at 14, wait until summer and do things like cutting grass. You'd be surprised how much people are willing to pay to not have to do it. Use your own equipment.

You could try opening up a lemonade stand.

I'm talking ten grand over two months. My brother and his best friend did that every June and July, and that's the general amount they'd each make.

Mowing lawns in such a... Primitive? Method of earning money. You see I earn my money by doing household chores and doing good in school. (10 bucks a week for doing dishes and $100 every 6 weeks if I get straight A's)

 

 

 

See if you can offer to do dishes, or clean around the house every weekend for money.

Bah. I wish I could do that. I do chores and do good in school for my room and board, I've been told. Everything else is extra (my room and board is nice, though ...). I've mown lawns since I was, like, seven. It's pretty [bleep]ing sweet. I only do it a few days a week, and most of my friends'll actually come help or something if I promise them lunch or whatever.

They never asked me for any ID when they hired me. Granted this was just for grocery/retail stores but you can pretend to be 16.

You most likely can't get a real job (no, not even fast food service), so just do random tasks for money. Or other things.

In my town the only place that hires 14-15 year olds is the local supermarket, and the pay is minimum wage. Every 8th grader, Freshmen, and Sophomore apply for jobs there so it's actually really hard to get one. My parents are making me get a job, but they don't realize that's the only place even though I keep telling them that (I'm 15 too).

Work wherever you can. Ask around. Put resumes in to any place. No doubt if you are keen, they will hire you, regardless of your age. Don't worry about the age thing.

I got a paid job as a web designer a while ago, but I don't think that's much of an option for you... Good luck anyway.

When [rather, if]I get a fulltime job, hopefully it will involve minimal physical and mental effort.

Well, Lenticular Mentioned cutting lawns for 5 grand a month, which seems very reasonable to me... Maybe I'll look into that in the summer.

that reminds me of the grocery store- I've seen a seventh grader working there, maybe I'll look into it. Minimum wage > nothing ( and I sort of expect minimum no matter where I go )
