Necromagus
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090429/ap_ ... _s_torture http://www.waterboardseanhannityforchar ... annity.htm Short version: conservative windbag Sean Hannity offered to be waterboarded for charity to prove that it's not torture, and liberal blowhard Keith Olbermann immediately jumped on it and offered him $1000 for every second he lasted. The second site has been started by other people who wanted to help raise the money. Personally, I'd be all for it because it's pretty much a win-win situation, especially if the whole event is taped for TV. Kiriyama
I approve. Once he sees how much psychological torture it is, he'll shut up. Trying to prove its not torture, bah. Good way to raise money for charity, and it shuts someone up in the process. EDIT: Damn, shows what not paying attention does. Lateralus
Christopher Hitchens has already done this. There's an article and a video on the Vanity Fair website. Hannity and Olbermann are both idiots. Why is the news in America spun so much? La lune ne garde aucune rancune.
1_man_army
I remember seeing a video from Vanity Fair where Christopher Hitchens volunteered to be waterboarded and didn't last very long. The idea of waterboarding is horrible because people don't realise that it isn't simulated drowning as many people describe it - it is drowning but somebody stops it before you get to the point of death. It'll be good to see a blow-hard like Hannity try it but I wouldn't be surprised if he backtracked on his statement. Link to the Hitchens Video: http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/feat ... ideo200808 He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)

Nero
Taken from a guy's post on Reddit since he said exactly what I was thinking: I wouldn't want to see it because I know how Fox News is going to play it up. They'll have him lying on a stretcher or table with a big grin on his face while some uniformed turd pours a bucket of water on his head, and they'll all have a good laugh about how anyone could -ever- consider it torture. The whole thing is meant to belittle the potential investigation and prosecution of officials who condoned and performed the torture in the first place, and provide ammunition to the maniacal "teabaggers" who think the ends justify the means Vienna Raszyn Warsaw Klushino

Zimbu
What is wrong with the American TV? First you gave us Jackass with a few dedicated people trying to injure themselves, then you started feeding bull penises to strangers on Fear Factor, and now you're going to torture celebrities(Is he one?). Who comes up with this cabbage? Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if I opened my TV tomorrow and saw an America's next top model photo shoot where the models inject poison to the people who have received the death sentence. Jokes aside, I guess it's his decision if he really wants to go through with it. It would be bad if they didn't do the waterboarding properly and the charity thing was still going on. If you do something for charity, you need to do it properly.

Jard_Y_Dooku
You Americans do some strange stuff. :P Waterboarding can cause damage to the lungs and brain from oxygen deprivation, how could anyone not classify that as torture? ubervonlemke
LOOK! It's the "We hate America" bandwagon. Looks pretty crowded. I know, I'd jump on but I prefer dignity over being "cool." Anyways, sounds like this one of the moments where Hannity isn't being a douche. He made his statement and know he wishes to prove it. That's manly. I doubt anyone here, including me, would actually go through this.

If you do something for charity, you need to do it properly. To be perfectly honest, you don't have the BBC. That's what's wrong with American television. ;) I suppose it will be interesting how they do it, it might really show something about how bad waterboarding is. Especially with a rate of 1000$/s, it would be interesting how long he would consider it to be worth it. Kudos to him for actually trying it to prove a point, though. ~ W ~

Watching some of the American TV shows is like watching alien porn, you just don't know what to think about it. This will be a similar situation.
