July 22, 200916 yr Don't take this personally anyone, this is just my personal opinion. Not necessarily the music, but the morals it promotes. Rap music. All I hear is booze, drugs, partying, gangs, killing, degrading women, and the (all-too frequent) "cuss". These singers apparently have the memory span of a fish, considering their music is so narrowly-minded. I just feel like "puttin a cap in tho's mutha [bleep]in playa's [wagon], if you catch my drift yo". Then the worst part is the people who actually follow these rappers like gods. "I so wanna be like them, you know?" They say to themselves. "I'll get started." Drugs, street fighting, gangs, blaring their music, more drugs, flashy cars and speeding. A lot of people will not agree that rap music promotes these morals. *cough* look up the lyrics *cough*. And, a lot of people will say that rap music has nothing to do with juvenile and not-so-juvenile delinquancy. [cabbage]. Where do you think these dumb, stupid people get THEIR morals from? There parents? Television? Hardly. Rap music promotes these morals, and as long as they are getting there "payout of 50Geez a month" to practice there "cussing" they are absolutely fine. I'm not suggesting that all people who listen to rap music are like this. There are a lot of sensible people that I know that listen to this music. Often they listen to it for the beats, or just the general rhythm of the music and don't really care for the lyrics. But then you get you're sponges, which soke up VERY LAST WORD... and you get what you see on the news.

July 22, 200916 yr I also agree with Nerdboy, but i have to say that some metal/emo music also portrays bad morals. Just heard a song on the tv again just now by 'Theory of a Deadman' - called 'Hate my Life' Who writes songs like that? The whole song just makes me wanna drown myself in sorrow to put it lightly lol Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!
July 23, 200916 yr Now, this song makes me kill myself from laughter. (May offend women or people who can't understand the song is sarcasm) Haha, right when I read "offend women" I knew it was Jon.

July 23, 200916 yr Well, seeing as you listen to Disturbed you don't really qualify for an opinion on anything. Especially since Down With The Sickness has a certain section of lyrics far too vulgar to post, to the point where they cut about 3 minutes out of it for the radio... ;) I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr

But then you get you're sponges, which soke up VERY LAST WORD... and you get what you see on the news. 1. You're not listening to the right rap songs, now are you? Try Public Enemy if you want rap that's not about "drugs" and "ice" and "hos". Or how about Run DMC? They were pretty good. But unfortunately, yeah, most mainstream rap is pretty crude and degrading these days. It all seems to be about the same topics. 2. Yeah, since rap is the only genre of music that "promotes" bad morals. Like there isn't music out there that's depressing, suicidal, violent, vulgar, crude, and disrespectful that isn't rap. 3. I hear you like Disturbed. Let's look at some of their lyrics, shall we? Oh look. "Down With The Sickness". It's promoting matricide! At least rap doesn't tell you to murder your mother - which you could see on the news by the way. Matricide, I mean. "Would you like to see how it feels mommy? Here it comes, get ready to die!" Awright! Disclaimer: I didn't take it personally. Music that makes me want to kill myself: pop country (big fan of "country punk" and older stuff though - Hank Sr., Cash, etc.), some top 40, and most of today's rap music. All this stuff sounds the same to me. Well, not exactly. But you get what I mean. Sig credit goes to ThruItAll. :D

(Paper Trails) Aesop Rock Or simply google search for some. But please, don't be a moron. Disturbed is pretty bad, if you're gonna scapegoat rap for things it's not responsible. Yea, I listen to Manson. If it makes you feel better, this guy at my school tried to blow up our school. I knew him personally. He had 30 pipe bombs, molotov cocktails, and ak 47s (I think.) His favorite band was Disturbed. Now, for me to say Disturbed caused him to want to blow up our school is not only naive, but [developmentally delayed]ed. Anyone who likes Disturbed already is messed up in the head, and they don't need any encourgement to do stupid things, as they are already stupid for listening to Disturbed. Rap can only affect those, who's minds are searching for a truth. They may find this truth in Music, if that's the case, then they'd do anything any music artist told them too. They WILL shoot up stores to get more "50geez" for their 'hos'. Or, they could be like me, they love the beats, the interesting use of instriuments, the poetry, and how every line rhymes, 9 times out of 10. I listen to songs about killing [garden tool]'s, even tough I don't have a [garden tool], nor would I kill one if I had. I like the way it sounds, and besides, most people who listen to rap aren't gangstas, but all people who listen to bands like Disturbed are gay. This is my biased and offensive view, I don't care. July 23, 200916 yr Could we just change the thread title to 'BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWW'? I VOTE YES. Seriously guys I am thinking if Nerd just added the word MAINSTREAM It would make more sense. And no mainstream rock or anything else has decent lyrics.. I dont need a siggy no moar.

Over here, we're still in that whiny, pointless post-punk revival fad. We've had some real monstrosities of bands such as Editors, Foals, the Libertines and Franz Ferdinand. I honestly can't think of a single GOOD post-punk revival band. I would much rather people here listen to hip-hop than this self-righteous, indulgent garbage. If you want to make me lose my mind you can just sit me in a room and blast out Babyshambles or something like that. The pretentious indie attitude of most younger people in the UK is horrible. I once recommended my friend a couple of my favourite indie rock bands (as I thought he liked indie rock, not this revival stuff) and he comes back with "this [cabbage] sucks, I'm TOO INDIE for it". Now, I wonder - does the music actually promote this snobby attitude, or do the kids themselves take it upon themselves to act this way? Most of the people into revival bands I know act like this, and it makes striking up a conversation with music incredibly hard because I just end up getting shot down every five seconds for "not being indie enough for us". The attitude of the music, bands and kids that listen to it sums up why post-punk revival makes me want to commit ritual suicide. Steam | Soup | Last.fm

I've fixed the situation by keeping relatively quiet about my music around friends. This said, I'm not very involved in film and books so I can't really speak for those. It's worse when people do the whole snobby, elitistic thing when you're speaking to them in person rather than online. Steam | Soup | Last.fm
