The N-word, is it actually offensive?

In my neck of the woods, apparently blacks can call us whites "crackers", but if we use the N-word in return, they get offended and angry. I don't care what you think, and it's a goddamn double standard that needs to stop.

Besides, it's just a damn word.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

I think you missed my point. Black people wanting to be called African American when their ancestors weren't from Africa is just dumb. Forget the US census, I'm talking strictly literal.

So you are saying people from Trinidad (what you said in your post) shouldn't be offended by the "N" word? That's just personally opinion, I guess.

No, I'm saying people who's ancestors are from Trinidad, in the Carribbean(sp?), and want to be called African-American, are dumb.

I, like Zierro, refuse to be born with any sort of original or inherrent sin for people before us may have done.

And if you want to attack me for what my ancestor did, I'll fight back only because I was attacked, not for any sense of retribution or in defense of what they've done.

I hate people being racist to whites, especially colleges. Almost all colleges will cut you slack if you aren't white, but if you're white you have to work amazingly hard (and even then they might accept an ethnic person over you). People assume that whites are rich racist people that have more opportunities than other racial backgrounds. D:

So, basically Earthysun is Jesus's only son.

Which is why I put all sorts of racial backgrounds when I took my SAT. White, Hispanic, native American, African American, and I think I put in Eskimo too.

I've often wondered what to call an African decendant in England. Or any other country. African Brits?

I just say black. I'd consider just about anything else either offensive or inaccurate. Or both.

What "people" are you referring to here?

Mostly colleges and scholarships. Also, stupid government officials being politically correct (or trying to be). I believe there's a Pennsylvania state law in which black people get extra points on math tests just because their scores were (on average) lower than white students'?

I find it a stretch to say that colleges assume white people are rich and racist, wouldn't you imagine the majority of the college staff are white in the first place?

The technical term is "Black British".

Why do they have to have matching consanants?

Would they be called "Cambodian Coloreds"?

Cause that would be pretty offensive in my opinion.

Why do we try so hard to be so damn politically correct? We're all just humans in the end, maybe we should stop being so proud. I believe Carlos Mencia had a pretty good rant about it. I should try and find a youtube link to it. Maybe I'll look it up.

Instead of American Indian, American.

Instead of African American, just American.

Instead of Latin American - wait, no. That doesn't work.

Instead of Black British, why not just British ?

I feel that this nomenclature and it is just that, nomenclature does not add any value to a group's identity whatsoever, and infact does the exact opposite. Why say this if the only thing that differentiates a peoples is their ancestry ? When now, the only factor does matter is that you are a [proud] citizen of that country. Unnecessary names like these make racial marginalization much easier.

also, the reason us white people enslaved the black people is because we were more techneloggicly advanced while the black people were worshiping there voodoo king.

I come from an area where there isn't many black people, if I am allowed to say that :|. My school, however, is full of middle-eastern kids. They're all cool. They use the "n word" anyway, don't ask me why though. We all call each other "n-word" and I'm white. I consider myself an inside-out oreo anyway because I hang around people who think they are black :P

I see where you're going here, but even nationalism allows for prejudices and such. Take Mexicans for example. But I do think the less labels people give each other, the better.

Ever since I was young, I thought about that. I didn't understand why they called people Native Americans or African Americans, when they are just as American as me, a white kid. My ancestry is from Europe. But I'm not called European American.

Lol, how did this go 8 pages? Of course it's offensive...to African Americans.

African-American may be the stupidest hyphenated nationality as a huge part of black people weren't African. Nothing dumber than a black guy not knowing his great grandparents came from trinidad wanting to be called an African-American. -.-

Also, the only people who's Nationality is a whole continent instead of a country. Technically Australians are both.

Nah, we have 2 sub divisions of native blacks. Torres strait islanders and aboriginal australians. Our country does cover more than just the mainland :P

Yeah, and how pissed off would an aborigine be if someone called them an African American? :P

Speaking of which, how pissed off are you that when we think of Australians we think of Crocodile Dundee? 8-)

Mate if you get their name, tribe, nationality, hell, even their preferred drug wrong, you better duck because you can bet there's a beercan heading your way followed by a family of angry blackfellas.

As long as you like the movie, I'm cool with it

Nah, my favourite thing to do is pretend EVERYBODY swims with crocs and sharks and that EVERYONE boxes kangaroos in their spare time. Americans fall for anything

So you don't fish with shotguns?

It was an okay movie. I do remember a great line from it. This isn't an exact quote, but close enough:

See that boulder there? It was there long before us and it'll be there long after us, so why fight over who controls it now?

I've tried fishing with a gun once and I've still got the scar on my leg to prove it -.- Naturally I was drunk.

It's a good quote, be it paraphrased or not.

Too drunk to fish? lol. Wasn't he fishing for baramundi or something?
