stormveritas
I've watched one element occur time and time again here. Runescape drives young kids to places like Tip It, where the communal forum is both active and fairly articulate. The people that post there don't condone the garbage grammar that you see too often elsewhere. Young folks (and some adults who speak foreign languages, or just struggle with writing) improve their writing ability in leaps and bounds when they find themselves trying to communicate on message boards like this where there is a certain threshhold for post quality below which they will be ridiculed / punished. There isn't much educational / enrichment value to the game itself for me; I do hear about good books to read or learn stuff from some of my wiser friends in the game. It's all indirect value, and not anywhere near as overall worthwhile as developing an addiction to running, reading, or something similar which is more glaringly productive. Runescape is also a nice, simple outlet for stress. There's something therapeutic about bashing giant dragons with a virtual sword after a day of frustrating negotiations with stubborn and honesty-starved customers. The Observer
Better typing skills have developed over the years of typing properly in RuneScape. (I can type faster and more grammatically correct.)

Sure there's also some benefits from Runescape, but the benefits forums like this offers are much better and more valuable. I remember the art forum played a big part for some people back when we could buy signatures. Maybe a writing forum for short stories would be rewarding also for some. 1230abcz
Couldn't type for jack [cabbage] when I started Runescape (granted, that was in the 6-7 years ago anyway), and now I type like a boss. If I could make an SNL short, it would be how I type like a boss. It would end in a scene of me typing like a boss. like a boss. like a boss. Youmu
Runescape... it doesn't help me in life that much, but I'll go ahead and post the things that it benefits me. -My typing speed increased. -I learned how to type in correct grammar. Before it I was an absolute troll. -Certain things in RS taught me about ancient and medieval times. For example, Mining and Smithing. -It also taught me about a little bit of the economy. Like, supply and demand. -It gives me more patience. Certain skills have this grind to them, and I have learned to deal with it. -Last but not least, it's a fun game. :) If, and only if, I max out F2P, then I will have something awesome to brag about. mario_sunny
Hmmm well it has no affect on my grades, and I've proved that. Freshman and Sophomore year while I was playing Runescape I was making Cs and Ds, and my parents blamed it on Runescape (those were fun years). Junior year suddenly I started making straight As and I was still playing Runescape. Then over the summer I dropped the game, and in Senior year I made straight As. Take that, paranoid parents. Runescape has got me addicted to finding the exp/hour rates of everything in real life. Sometimes I find myself building mathematical formulas to see which route/way is faster. And in general runescape got me interested in math and now its one of my best subjects. By popular demand, this signature is back- however I currently do not have a blog up at the moment and if I did I wouldn't update it. Sorry, the sig links to nowhere :( . Waltchelg
It helps me to kill boredom ^ that and I have mild ADD so when I'm watching a movie by myself or doing some other menial task I can play RS to keep me occupied. It's made me realize time and time again why I don't communicate with 90% of the people that play RS. Watching in game conversations lowers my IQ. Starting Playing RS: ages ago. Horatio666
For me it's more "How did it help" because I've kinda quit, but meh It helped me I guess by giving me a place where, if I was having a terrible day...I could forget it all. It's kinda been replaced now though "Probably the worst thing I do is take bubble baths. But manly ones." Me_Hate_Libs
Something that has helped me is if I try to pick the pocket of an elf and they catch me, if I eat a whole loaf of bread afterward I'll be in tip top shape. This website and its contents are copyright © 1999 - 2010 Jagex Ltd. opportunity
what does runescape do that can effect your life in a positive way? i'll start with mine. ok, most of you may remember when i made a quitting thread in august 3 right? when i stopped playing runescape, my school grades were dropping. even the classes that i do good on had failing test scores and missing homework...so when i got BACK from runescape, my grades went up, my homework was done on cue, and my performance was greater, and i started doing better in school, including making new friends, and helping others with classwork. it may be hard to believe but i kid you not, i've had this trend since 7th grade (12th grade now). idk why this happens...i guess it reflects my optimism or something? if anyone can answer this, PM me. anyways, explain yours! :thumbsup:I was playing RuneScape since 2004 and learned English quite good. I quited RuneScape one week ago and I wrote an article why. I had some bold reasons, and I didn't want to be addicted anymore.

Youmu
I'm surprised about how people are saying that Runescape hurts them. Seriously, it's just a game. It's not like playing it will do you any harm. I play on weekends/holidays for about 2-3 hours each time I play, and it hardly hurts my real life at all. Turnpike
Roonscape keeps my math skills sharp. I really was bad at hard math in high school, but I have always been good at basic stuff. Doing price checks and what not on the game keeps me sharp.
