indy500fan
Isn't this basically what that whole Millenium Bug thing was about? Not exactly. Y2k "bug" was that some systems stored years in just two digits, so when 2000 came around the system would think it meant 1900. This problem is that for some reason the system thought that this was a leap year and therefore that February had 29 days, which it obviously doesn't this year. So when it tried to change to Feb 29, 2010 it freaked out and reset to Dec 31, 1999 or Jan 1, 2000 depending on what time you are. This screwed up most of the DRM stuff. Speaking of which, DRM crippling a game so that it doesn't work OFFLINE in SINGLE player mode for any reason whatsoever is completely unacceptable. In reality that's all the trophy system is, a "legitimate" reason to make a check if the game is pirated or not over the internet.
Distracted
Damn, I hope I didn't lose anything, I turned on my PS3 on two different occasions today, trying to make GH5 to work. Good thing I checked this thread before [bleep]ing it up completely.
indy500fan
Damn, I hope I didn't lose anything, I turned on my PS3 on two different occasions today, trying to make GH5 to work. Good thing I checked this thread before [bleep]ing it up completely. After turning it on there is nothing more you could do to screw it up, the damage is already done. EDIT: That sounded worse than it actually is. The damage is just your date is wrong. It's not really for certain whether tomorrow you will see the date Jan 1st/2nd or March 1st. Those of us who didn't have theirs on and didn't turn it on will also have the wrong date, ours will just be a day off, so they will probably say March 1st tomorrow. EDIT2: Actually just realized I don't think I can put myself in that second group of people, pretty sure I had my PS3 on after 7:00 EST last night. I never noticed any errors because I hardly ever use the system for gaming, just as a media center/blu-ray player.
Nadril
Except that it will be fixed. At approximately 6:00pm Central Time (3-2-10 12:00AM GMT). This is almost certain, as anyone who has hard reset the RTC by removing the battery for ten minutes has their console up and running. The problem is that Sony used an off the shelf Real Time Clock (the clock that keeps the real world time current) in the earlier units. These RTCs have a programming error which makes them think that this year is a leap year, which would make today 2-29-10. When this date gets sent to the PS3 OS, the OS says "Hey, that's not a valid date!" because Sony actually programmed their OS correctly. Unfortunately, this invalid date, because it doesn't exist (not because it's the wrong date), is causing the OS to set the date to 1/1/2000. Likely something is happening where the trophy code has a date check that says "trophies go live on xx/xx/xxxx, if the current date is before this, don't work properly". If the server you're supposed to sync trophies to doesn't exist yet (like the PS3 likely thinks), why bother trying to sync to it, just throw up an error. At least, that's what the interwebs have been saying is the likely problem. BTW, the OS is setting the date to 1/1/2000, but that's Greenwich Mean Time. US is GMT -5 to -10 or so, which is the reason your console likely says 12/31/1999. via joystiq. Best explanation I've seen about the problem so far. indy500fan
Seems right, I said above that I thought it would be OK to turn the console back on tomorrow, since it would skip the non-existent day. Good to know that it will probably fix itself for those who were set back to 2000, didn't really know what was wrong and I thought they might be stuck back in that time. Nadril
PS3's should all be working now. Time to play Uncharted 2
Maze
While TIF was down Nadril and I played some MAG. :) Level 16 now on it. --- Has anybody else noticed that there are a lot less people on Uncharted 2 now? Maybe it's because of MAG or MW2 or something but it's something I've noticed.
Nadril
While TIF was down Nadril and I played some MAG. :) Yeah that was fun  I did pretty well on sabotage, my assault rifle is OP as hell. (The last unlocked rifle for SVER with a 4x optical and foregrip). Was like 12-1 on the TDM-ish mode too.

Headshots = instakill and no-scoping is really easy in close-range. I really want the increased pistol-fire rate skill. The pistol seems to do a pretty decent amount of damage, but the fire rate is slooooooowwwww. Will switch to a sniper build when I get enough points to respec. Carl
While TIF was down Nadril and I played some MAG. :) Level 16 now on it. --- Has anybody else noticed that there are a lot less people on Uncharted 2 now? Maybe it's because of MAG or MW2 or something but it's something I've noticed. You two should add my PSN (carl-dub) and we can play MAG some time. I'm currently level 41, I think it is. And my spec is a sniper. Doing field support (i.e. Medic) as well as sniping guarantees a fair amount of XP by the end of a game depending on how good of a sniper you are and your location. I find sniping from the objectives if defending in Sabotage is awesome. Then you push them right back to their spawn for even more XP. ;) RIP Michaelangelopolous

stevepole
Luckily I now have a slim PS3, I didn't have to worry about that nasty issue, but I've already lost all my saves from my old PS3 breaking I could really care less about my trophies. Glad it's fixed though. Been playing a lot of MW2 lately, I never see party invites until I quit the game or the invitee is offline.

1_man_army
Also, if anyone is wondering, the bug that Playstation owners encountered yesterday has now gone, so it is now safe to use your console again. I used my console offline during the period but what was strange is that the Heavy Rain theme I got with the special edition was declared corrupted but once I put on the console today it was fine - I didn't even redownload it. Maybe that was the case for other people who lost data. AndyPandy
Renting Heavy Rain. Damn it's good. It's made me feel more than any other game. For some reason I can really connect to the characters. Maybe just cause it's an awesome game. So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth, These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf, Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in, Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything, Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel, Tear up the book and write your own damn rules, Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got, And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut, And realise that the other world that you're always looking for, Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door, And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas, After all, you were put on the earth to do this, So shine your light so bright that all can see, Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be. Nadril
Any Demon's Souls players here? I've been playing my copy from Gamefly recently. Started off kind of getting pissed off at it but I've been getting better and having more fun. I'm playing a magician, around soul level ~55 or so. Jaziek
GoW is just around the corner for me, and I still haven't sat down and played through bayonetta on hard, which was kind of a target for me. I mean, if I can do bayonetta on hard, I could pretty much do GoW with my eyes closed.
