How badly has it messed with your life?

I've spent over 170 days playing this game... and it makes me want to cry. If I'm not playing Runescape, I'm randomly browsing teh interwebs, watching movies online or at the theaters, or just watching TV. All of those things are great, but Runescape eats up my time like no other. I'm doing good in school and I'm not a no-life nub in school with no friends B) :^o , but if I didn't have Runescape in my life I'd be so much better off. I'd actually get homework done at home (I know, homework at home?).

Question of the day: How do you know RS has wrecked your life? Think about it - those 160 days would've been spent on some other sort of distraction anyway (and by distraction I mean game). You can't actually measure how badly RS messed things up unless your life is in shambles, and judging from your post, your life is actually very far from it. ;)

But if you think it is messing things up, go ahead and take a break from it for a while. See how it goes. See if RS is really the catalyst here.

...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.

Wow... How much has it messed with my life... It's messed with it pretty bad. I've played for about a total of 150 hours. I have good grades at school, but the friends I have don't talk to me because I don't have the games they have/don't play WoW. It does take up a majority of my life.

Its Runescape. Its an MMO. It's gonna chew up your time.

I've played it for a while, but I tae breaks all the time. I go out with friends and live my life. School grades are pretty good but I don't give up everything for school anyways. I'm happy. But if it is causing troubles with your social life, then I reckon its time to quit.

302 days straight playing. i don't regret it though. i do get good grades (highest in 2 classes so far), i have a steady life, and I'm making good progress. ;) despite that, i DID quit playing for about 6 months one time and to tell you the truth, it made NO difference whatsoever even when i was expecting like a miracle that i would go out on dates, make friends, etc....haha.

and to TC who said that he regret spending 170 days, its not like you could of done something else with that time, you just decided to play runescape with all that time you had, no biggie. and trust me, you'd be surprised how long an average 21 year old spent on video games ALONE.

Has no messed my life in any way possible, as I maintain high marks, hang out with friends and always on top of my [cabbage].

Only play when I'm bored, although over 5 years it has collected to 100 hours on just one account.

May be, if it interferes with your life so much, you should stop playing so much lol?

If i wouldn't be playing runescape i would be playing some other game instead.

I don't think runescape in it self has ruined anything for me.

Rather the invention of games, without games i think i would be better off, but since we have games, i'll rather just play them then not... play them?

Runescape isn't the problem. You are. You don't have enough responsibility and maturity to know when it's time to put down the keyboard, and despite your visions of lollipop dreams, there is no magical land that Runescape pulls you away from, you'll find that life outside of Runescape isn't much different than life inside of it, because it is a video game.

You know how you have a problem with Runescape? When you create a thread on a fansite where you whine about how your life would be better without it, acknowledging that you're too lazy to do something about it, saying far more about your character and integrity than your plainly laid description of yourself.

If you think Runescape is such a detriment to you, put down they keyboard. Everyone has their little habits, be grateful yours isn't heroin or cocaine.

I play Runescape for 2-3 hours a day on weekends and it hardly affects my life at all.

I maintain good grades, have a pretty good social life, and I'm in good shape.

If the treatment of social desolation would be as simple as turning the computer off, there wouldn't be so many people who spend their time at the computer the whole day. As abyssal whip said, turning the computer off won't suddenly make one's life better. In fact, it'll usually leave a huge gap of time, which is hard to fill up as those people mostly have very little friends, nor a clue on what else to do besides playing the computer.

And of course it's not as bad as drugs, but it's potentially addicting nonetheless.

When everything's been said and done, more has been said than done.

Love nearly every minute of it. Its like chocolate, chips, dr pepper, a good book or procreation you might sometimes get bored by it but it never fully loses its appeal.

(Btw those are treat foods. I dont only consume them and they havnt ruined my life or anything lol. )

RuneScape is a direct correlation to just how much motivation I have in life.

When I played in high school, it was my first addiction you could call it. Didn't care much about school, or other people. Then... before college I got rid of everything by... but nonetheless it was all gone. During college, the best 4 years of my life... this game never crossed my mind. I did great in college, receiving a degree in engineering with good grades.

I was so ready to take on the world, when the god damn economy decided to get in my way. It wasn't until this past summer when I was sitting around with nothing to do that I somehow by unlucky chance fired up the game (which is much different than it was in 2005 - not good for me). Now I'm bumming off my parents, 2000 miles away from everyone and everything I knew, still looking for a job, and now nearly broke (and please don't tell me Walgreen's after I busted my [wagon] off for 4 years) and life is just dull right now. And what am I doing, I'm playing RuneScape. This won't go on for much longer though. If I can't find a good job soon, I'm going back to school.

I guess RuneScape is just my drug. When I didn't play it, life was great. When life was/is sort of dull... I found/find myself playing this game. So for me RuneScape doesn't effect my life - it's more a result of the state I'm in.

I like how other post "yeah I play a lot, but I still have a social life" - this is just complete denial. Been there done that. RuneScape in general just isn't good news. Sad, but true. :(

I haven't spent as much time as some of you have (I think I am at 54 days now), but that's enough to make getting me thinking at times. You need a major goal in life. Once I had one, any major RuneScape goals I had went out the window completely. Now I'm sort of stuck in a limbo not sure of what my next major life goal is.

I played fairly regular before, it was the game i played when i had a free minute at home. It's not messed with my life. If i had something more important or more fun to do (read: homework/out with friends/work) Runescape and gaming in general would take the back seat. As others have said, if i wasn't playing this in my time out, i'd be still spending the same time playing something else.

Actually choosing to skip doing homework, not go out with friends or pull a sickie at work just to get some extra time on a game is pretty stupid. It's not the be all end all, it's just a game.

If it wasn't for RunesScape, most people would have just spent all that time playing another video game or watching TV. That said it isn't the games fault if someone spends too much time on it (reminds of the "please take a break!" messages guild wars gives out after 2+ hours, lol). I'll admit I've wasted more time than I would like on RS but that was in junior school years, all kids around 13 just sit on their [wagon] and watch TV/computer so I think I'm far from alone. I've been able to drop RS from my routine pretty well now that I'm in the last year of my school.

It's a matter of self-discipline, if you can't do that then you may have many other problems in life as well.

I have played about 340 days in 3 years 1 month. I admit I don't have much social life in real life. Currently I play around 9-12 hours on weekdays, more on weekends. I got 2 part time job so basically I play all the time I'm not sleeping or working. And guess what? I'm actually happy with my life now. I don't really miss anything nowadays. I used to have some issues with it but no more. Got everything I need in real life.

I finished my studies at university this autumn but it wasn't because of Runescape. Just had no motivation to study anymore.
