Difficult Drum Covers?

Da Pirates

Recommended Posts

Hi, I know a person who thinks hes full of himself and hes an amazing drummer. He said to me the other day, "Give me an MP3 of a song, 20 minutes and ill be able to do a drum cover of it". I was wondering if anyone knew a song that is so difficult to cover that it would make his comment invalid. The best one I could think of so far is "Ticks and Leeches" by Tool.

Lykathea Aflame and Morbid Angel. I totally agree. Great songs as well.

Also, I have a genius plan.

Over an hour long song. You win by default.

Rosetta Stoned by Tool

I've been transcribing it for the last month and just started playing it within the last week and it is the most difficult song I've ever learned on drums. If he plays it correct, and not just some crappy beat he puts over it, I will say he is the best drummer of all time. It is not humanly possible.

Or if you want to throw him off, ask him to play Scatterbrain by Jeff Beck. You can't play it unless you move your ride cymbal to the left side making you play EVERYTHING off the left :) (meaning you play everything with your left hand dominant instead of your right hand.)

Tool is easily one of the most talented bands I listen to. The drums, the bass, the vocals, the lyrics...its all so wonderfully genius. I can't imagnine anyone covering any Tool song to be honest. I mean, they could try but...it's like trying to cover a Queen song. It's not gonna work.

And I suppose I would say that there is no such thing as a "difficult" drum cover. It's easy to learn something someone else has already crafted. Just because you can play someone else's beats doesn't make you good. It may improve your skill as a drummer (which is what I use covers for), but someone who is truly good will be creating their own music as well. And to do that well, is very difficult.

Iron Maiden - Sign of the Cross

Remember it 'cause Nicko mentioned once that he thought it was the most difficult to play of all their songs.

Well said.

I'd probably pick a Tool song like others have said.

It isn't in the castle, It isn't in the mist, It's a calling of the waters, As they break to show, The new Black Death, With reactors aglow, Do you think your security, Can keep you in purity, You will not shake us off above or below

I don't know if it's hard to do (it probably is), but at least it sounds nice. :)

It's also a pleasure yo see Joey play. :) What a guy.

Oh, you didn't ask for a drum solo, but just a long song that he could do a drum cover of. Sorry. Well, maybe it's nice to see for the drummers on tif who haven't heard it yet.

Yes these videos are all really awesome and everyone in them are mint drummers, but at least give this kid a chance. Even if he was good enough he doesn't have the kit for many of these, I mean for christ's sake Pert has a 360 degree kit.
