11-Jan-2010 - Nomads Requiem

Also, mad respect for any lower levels who beat this quest, I may not be maxed but I still consider myself to have decent stats and I barely squeezed by that fight. It'll be epic for the first sub level 110 that beats it, though I suppose it'll be a combination of awesome skill and luck lol.

I'm working on it.

Oh yeah, it would probably be a pretty good idea to bring an unicorn pouch + scrolls to use after tort/yak is empty.

For the life of me I have no idea you are meant to stop him from eating the roots. He gets to all of them in 2 steps and I can't click them fast enough even knowing where they were. Took me 3 (4) pray pots and Falador Shield prayer-restore because of that. oh and Deflect Melee helped *a lot* on him.

-edit- The Decaying Avatar that is.

I succeeded destroying the 3rd root in time. He got away with the other 2.

I suggest keeping the screen in a horizontal view and keep switching between the corners. It's not like you have something better to do :P

Can someone explain a good ration of Super Restores to Sara Brews? And how many doses of brew do I drink before I drink a dose of Super and all that?

1 dose of rest after 2-3 doses sara brew. I'm trying to find a good ration myself atm.

Me too. Just did test run with rocktail inventory +Terrorbird. So far he doesn't look that terrible. Just get my healing right and I might be able to do it. The only limiting factor at the moment for me is running out of food, I've been in no danger of dying otherwise. Might try brews + restores next, if that fails I'll have to get a few more summoning lvls to get tort.

Tbh it seems to me like the only reason people feel the "Grandmaster" classification is sacred and special is because of how long and epic the first one is. Fact is, "Grandmaster" is just another classification like all the others. It just means it's harder. There are some long expert quests, some short ones. There are some long master quests, and some short ones. Obviously there will be some long grandmaster quests like WGS, and some short ones like Nomad's Requiem. What does it matter? It's just a label.

No we consider it that because we were told they were going to be awesome and special. And they aren't doing that.

Jagex promised us mammoths a few years ago! I want my mammoths!

Just because they have a idea doesn't mean Jagex will stick to it, to be honest, I would be very, VERY surprised if any game ever made was exactly like the creators had in mind when they finished developing it

Wow another gandmasters!

Can't wait to do it! :-D

Ok, I tried to kill Nomad already over 20 times and I've already wasted more than 2M on supplies. I just give up, after more than 2 year quest cape ownership, I must obey my new master Nomad.

Maybe if I get the money for a better herblore level, I might try it again, but for now, no more Nomad teasing...

No we consider it that because we were told they were going to be awesome and special. And they aren't doing that. Now can anyone tell if this the *quest* is special or is the *boss fight* special? In WGS the Balance Elemental isn't even talked about that much. People talk about the quest as a whole, story, cutscene, all of it. Not to mention the opening up of Tormented Demons. This is a boss fight with a subpar quest used to wrap it up as a pretty present.

Yeah, that's what we were told. And I totally believe you when you say a Jmod posted that on the forums. But I think that was just over-enthusiasm on the part of the Jagex team. Now that it's simmered out for like a year, they probably decided that they could release some very difficult, albiet short quests under the label of grandmaster. I imagine this quest took relatively little development time compared to WGS, so for all we know they could release another GM or two later this year. Hell for all we know they could release another one next week (not likely but it could happen).

I'm actually glad they decided to release some shorter GMs. Above all, I crave challenge in RS (and I mean actual challenges, not having to restrict yourself for the sake of challenge). If they had to wrap every single grandmaster level challenge in some big honkin' quest, they literally couldn't release but one GM every year.

Yes but this has nothing to do with issues involving creating something. They simply told us one thing and did another. They could've done this easily enough, same battle mechanics, same fight, just not as hard and made it Master, or they could've made the quest be longer, have more of a story and keep Nomad as he is. The way it was done I think isn't right.

So Jagex lied to us. Surprise, surprise!

Altough I agree with you, we can't do anything about it, except hoping that the next GM quest will live up to the name.

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

I beat him on my 2nd try. It was all a matter of just learning his attacks, considering they're very predictable.

My first attempt I took ZS with black d-hide and lots of brews/rests. ZS just wasn't hitting enough, and I couldn't even get to his berserker stage. I ended up running out of restores, so I sat there on 1hp for a while hitting zeros waiting for him to finish me off.

My 2nd attempt I went with a whip + rune def and black d hide. This faired me a lot more and I was actually hitting decently. I also took a pony and used that when my tort ran out of supplies. I brought 5 sharks and saved those for his berserker fight. That proved to be invaluable.

The other trick of the trade was to make sure I hid when he did his "75 damage" attack. Immediately when he starts throwing his mines, run and hide behind the farthest pillar. He'll come running up to you telling you to face him - so do it. He'll then tele back to his spot shortly after and tell you that you can't hide from him. Stand behind the farthest pillar again and his attack will miss. In the time he did that - I was getting back to full health - using my pure set again, and then charged him with claw specials. This tended to work out perfectly. Ended up with having about 5-6 brews left over. I also did it without Soul Split, and the only prayer I was using was Piety.

Interesting quest to say the least. Curious reward though.

I have fought him 4 times already and I still think the same.

This quest doesn't deserve GM status due to the lack of story.

COULD Nomad's new appearance be a reference to Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2 game?

Jagex likes to reference British stuff (Wikipedia quote about game developer of Blood Omen 2):

Crystal Dynamics is an American video game developer based in the San Francisco Bay Area and founded in 1992 by Judy Lang, Madaline Canepa and Dave Morris.[1] It was acquired by Eidos Interactive, a British video game publisher, in 1998 and, following Square Enix's acquisition of Eidos in 2009, is now a subsidiary of Square Enix.

COULD Nomad's new appearance be a reference to Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2 game?

I think he's based on Darth Vader due to some of the quotes. ("All to easy." and Juna's "Impressive... Most impressive.")

priest_wiz.png

To be honest I thought there was more of a Star Wars reference. There was just something about the way Nomad looks that reminds me of the Star Wars saga. I had thought that as well when Soul Wars first was released. I also noticed the comment during the quest from Nomad saying "All to easy" which was made by Darth Vader in the "5th" movie. I suppose it could be a common phrase - but it was always Star Wars that I feel like that phrase has the most relevance towards.

-Edit- .. beaten by above <_<

Actually no guide, but I do want some help from people as to the boss fight, that thing that overblows this quest into GM ranking. And right now, everything is bought out and I can't get a rocktail, super restore, or sara brew to save my life. So Morningwood, do me a favor. If you think I don't have anything to say, put me on ignore. In any case, just leave me the hell alone.

Dark, he reminds me a lot of the guy from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The first one. Began with an M.
