January 27, 201016 yr This is the question I have been asking myself these days. A lot has changes since I started playing, for some the amount of change you have witnessed might be enormous. I feel the game has become easier than what it was before. Two points that I'd like to focus: DeathI dreaded this when I was new. Only a minute and a half to get back to my items, the risks were huge. Now with the gravestones you have an ample amount of time to get back to your items. Some people(including me) don't worry about death anymore. If one dies, no worries, just go back and pick the things up. A minor inconvenience. Fear of the UnknownDangerous dungeons and places are now marked with a warning sign. <_< I hate these, kinda ruin the excitement of venturing into new dark, dingy dangerous places that might reap huge rewards or instant death. I feel that there should be some new high risk content where jagex doesn't tell about the horrors, risks and possible rewards and let us find out for ourselves. It would be nice to have something like that again. I feel RuneScape has become more like BabyScape. Not the massive Adventurous MMORPG it claims to be. Every thing has been labeled with warnings and details to the extent to not expect anything exciting or interesting. You know what you are doing and you know what you'll get. Where the hell is the adventure because of which I first started RS? What do you feel? 99 Woodcutting | 99 Constitution | 99 PrayerScapin since July 05'
January 27, 201016 yr I feel the same way I died just the other day at waterfiends and i was more annoyed then anything because i only had 17 waterfiends to go on my task becuase i would have to get my barrows repaired. With the removal of the wild and signs placed all over it is much more babyfied then when i started. I like to see more places like the Corp beast lair where if you die you will get no grave. That would put back some of the danger. http://www.clanhavok.net/
January 27, 201016 yr It's also you leveling up; you learn about those dangerous places and know which ones to avoid. There are also less of those dangerous places because you become more powerful. And then there is the internet; within hours of a release everything is already on tip.it or another site. Retired 2146 overall - 136 combat - 6 skillcapes Plus I think the whole teenage girl thing will end soon (hopefully), because my girlfriend is absolutely in love with him(she is 18), and im beginning to feel threatened by his [Justin Bieber] dashing looks.

The 'Us' leveling up to a point where things are not dangerous anymore is a part of the experience, but learning where to go and what to do on our own is something totally different. Yes, the info is up on fansites but it is up to those who choose to know about the dangers etc. I feels its more of spoon-feeding than adventures. But with the new steps taken by jagex i am hopeful that we might have some part of the adventure back. 99 Woodcutting | 99 Constitution | 99 PrayerScapin since July 05'
January 27, 201016 yr It sort of depends on yourself; if you read the Official Forums, Tipit Forums or the RS Wiki you will know every little thing about an update that just took place. If you choose to avoid such places the update will be a complete mystery, and that is what I try to do. Due to my epic stats, I have now started WGS (but I still hate spoilers).
January 27, 201016 yr I don't think "adventure and risk" is something that fits runescape well anymore.Jagex hasn't received that many newcomers to RS lately. Noobs dying off and losing everything would be really counter productive Sure when I look back, I miss the sense of mystery that pervaded the world. Now that I've played for a long long time, that mystery is gone and I miss the good old days. But I doubt I actually felt that way when I was a newbThe only people who tend to embrace adventure and risk are the higher levels, who are more secure in their wealth after all I think jagex will be slowly reintroducing "risk" through GM quests. We couldn't teleport out of movario's base as we tried to escape. They slapped us on the wrist with the black elite armour too.sure these aren't huge things, but I just think jagex wants to ease adventure and risk into RS slowly

January 27, 201016 yr I hate the warnings and signs everywhere. The biggest risk for me is losing untradable items, mainly quest items, which I have to spend a bit of time recovering. Thats the only risk I really worry about if I ever died. Either that or disconnecting and not being able to reconnect for ages. It took me a while but the wild is no longer a scary place. When they added revs I knew they wernt very dangerous but I still had the built in feeling of 'wild' and to be carefull. Nowadays I dont care if I carry hundreds of millions. I dont even care if I wearing 20m and decide to make a drink while penguin hunting in the middle of the wild. Which is a shame. (If I die I dont lose anything do I lol) Killing nomad was seriously without risk. You appear near to your grave if you died. I think there is a bit of adventure.. Aslongs as you dont need risk to be included. VMeh BlogV >Miscellaneous Goals< http://www.rsbandb.com/sigs/sig108/bazzaminxer.png
January 27, 201016 yr Nope. Very little. Luckily I learned pretty much the entire game on my own so I have a little bit of pride in that. I'm able to stand on my own accomplishments There is little risk and less reward nowadays.. This website and its contents are copyright © 1999 - 2010 Jagex Ltd.
January 27, 201016 yr There isn't really any fear of death anymore, I never played because that fear was exciting me, though I can't deny I mss it now. Although about Six months ago I feel asleep slaying and lost about 10M
January 27, 201016 yr Not as big a part as it used to be, at any rate. Brand new players have lots more guidance/warnings than they used to and with the addition of gravestones, dying isn't as big a problem as it used to be.Still, for a new player discovering areas for the first time (despite all the warnings/guides) i'm sure there probably is a sense of risk/adventure, just because it's something completely new. January 27, 201016 yr Risk pretty much disappeared when they added danger signs to pretty much every place that there is a chance of getting killed.
January 27, 201016 yr If you have a problem with Gravestones, then don't pick up your items. Or time yourself for 2 mins and if you make it back in that time, you get your items else leave them. You can choose to play the game as you wish. No one told you that you have to use gravestones. This will bring back some of that risk you talked about. A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.

January 27, 201016 yr I think it's interesting that, just a few years ago, death used to be such a big deal. I would never, ever let myself come close to having low HP. Nowadays, death is definitely just a minor inconvenience. I don't really feel that sense of adventure anymore, but I think that's due more to me being a pretty high level player. I know that most stuff can't kill me, so all of those warnings and signs don't change anything, cause I wouldn't heed them anyway. IMO, gravestones are a good thing. Dying and losing all of my stuff isn't exactly a nostalgia-inducing thought. To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.
January 27, 201016 yr Well the question is how do you want to play? Do you want to play as given or create it to be what you want it to be? People play the game as they wish because they receive enjoyment via that method, which in most cases is limiting themselves in one aspect or another. This case it is not utilizing the gravestone feature that is provided. It increases the risk while playing while losing the feature. Personally the game has increased dramatically since I have stopped playing that I can't keep up. This game is ever changing, so the game that users play now is not the game they played last year or the year before that, etc. Updates fluctuate the game in many different ways. Compared to how you had to play the game in Classic to now, it could be said it has gotten easier. But from my standpoint, it has gotten harder because I like a simple game play. And when I say harder, it could be substituted for complicated. What I see now is just tremendous and I could never have comprehended how far this game has gone when I first started. So it is just in the eyes of the beholder in how they view something as difficult or not. :) A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.
January 27, 201016 yr I do pretty much every quest without any idea of what I'm going in to. This makes them much more enjoyable and adventurous. Try not using a quest guide sometimes.
January 28, 201016 yr Fear of the unknown and death eh...Well today I was playing and me and a mate decided to go to bandos god wars. I died so easily it was silly, and there were no warnings. I lost about 10mil worth of stuff, but I have enough money for it not to matter if i do die.But if slaying, we get an idea of what we'll be up against because the slayer master tells us. and we can skip if we dont want to. And the most recent quests have been a bit ridiculous on the dying, as they let you keep all your stuff... -Destroy Topham-

January 28, 201016 yr I agree on the death thing for the most part...the only exceptions where death is more than "a minor convenience" is if you die in places like the God Rooms. As for warning signs, there have been warning signs around in same way or another as long as I can remember. I never remember a time when I was able to walk north of varrock without having a "DANGER" sign pop up. As far as I'm able to remember...the only chance is the ability to turn these off now. Now...what I Don't like...is now, new players are basically told EXACTLY how to do EVERTHING.For those of you who's been playing for...lets say 4 years or more...when you first played the game, how long did it take for you to figure out how to Runecraft, or train crafting? It sure took me a while to figure out I needed to do a quest to runecraft. Today, with the new advisor system and objectives tab quest spoilers, new players are basically told exactly what to do. Personally, looking back to the old days, it was so much more fun starting out back then, you had to learn most of it on your own, if you died, you had to learn from it. Now, if you die as a new player, about 4 difference messages pop up if you're about to die...and then after you die telling you that the "risk of dieing" is no longer relevant. When I first started this game, it felt more like an adventure. With all these new systems in place...starting out now is just one huge tutorial. January 28, 201016 yr Here's an elegant solution that helps solve inflation a bit: For areas past level 20 wild, boss dungeon areas (GWD, Dagg Kings, Kalphite Queen) you get a gravestone that can be blessed, but you can't collect your items there. Near your respawn point will be a figure of death that you must pay the high alchemy value of your gravestone items in order to get them back (in event of GP you'll pay 60% to get 100% back). Once you pay, he'll give you the items directly. Note: Death is always there, and you can barter to get back items from other areas but for that you just pay a low alchemy fee or just go and get them yourself. When you die, you're given notification of what type of Death you got. Note: If your gravestone stone expires you can't get your items at all from either the gravestone or Death. Now, if Jagex does this, it'll raise a fit. However, it adds a true risk of death in dangerous yet highly profitable areas. It also removes GP from the economy. January 28, 201016 yr I remember that I finished Dragon Slayer on my first account before I found this site, that was pretty awesome. Also I very agree with the "BabyScape" thing, althought not really towards higher leveled players. Right now, I think there are many different ways a newbie can make money, right? Such as the SoS dungeon's free 20k, random chores, etc. But back when I started, I mined copper + tin in varrock, walked to lumbridge to smelt, then walked back to varrock to smith bronze daggers, and it wasn't as boring as people think it might be. I ended up making 3k in 2 days and bought an adamant longsword for myself, I felt pretty good. But now you see people getting the free 20k, then going to port sarim to buy feathers and water runes, then sell them at the GE, it's kind of a weird feeling.
