April 3, 201016 yr I have come across this alot at ivys. Some people play this game and get 99s like its a chore. If this is a game, why not play parts of the game that you enjoy? It doesnt make sense to me, and I [bleep]ing hate it. Example:             Blog.
April 3, 201016 yr While I do agree with you to an extent, sometimes people need to raise a level they don't like in order to achieve something that they really want to achieve (to get a quest requirement, to max out, etc.). - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
April 3, 201016 yr It's just like anything else - they want a sense of accomplishment when they're done. I personally can't stand to do more than, say, 1K of anything at a time, but some can.
April 3, 201016 yr To be honest I'm kind of in the category that you hate. It's a time passer really. For me it's something to do and keep occupied, rather than to have fun.
April 4, 201016 yr It's the skillcapes. The entire game is a race to 99 and that is all anybody cares about anymore. Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King....
April 4, 201016 yr i played it to pass the time, but now i played WoW (good pvp, faster to max) and mw2 (best fps ever) to pass time, and have fun. so much better than grinding on rs for ages I'm gonna be walking down an alley in varrock, and walka is going to walk up to me in a trench coat and say "psst.. hey man, wanna buy some sara brew"walka92- retired with 99 in attack, strength, defence, health, magic, ranged, prayer and herblore and 137 combat. some day i may return to claim 138 combat, but alas, that time has not yet come
April 4, 201016 yr You do realize people also play/grind RS to pass the time too? I do that all the time on holidays, mostly because there's nothing much to do then. Sure, some players (specifically pointing at a maxed out F2P, who wishes to remove himself from the top 250 f2p list) are like that, but not ALL of them are. April 5, 201016 yr I agree, like last week I got trolled in the screenshots thread by bacon and someone else for not pking "effectively." I'm sorry, I like to have fun pking, not go for the best kill:death ratio. DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers ringsQBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow partsCR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size....It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).
April 5, 201016 yr Some people find it fun to look back and say, "Look at me, I clicked the mouse lotsa times, and now I have a make-believe achievement." Runescape is not a particularly enjoyable game, it's more of an escape from the normal worries of real life. As for the "It's because of skillcapes" discussion, is that necessarily a bad thing? MMOs have always been about the achievements, whether it's buying a partyhat or completing a difficult quest. The skillcapes are merely a way of showing off your achievements.
April 5, 201016 yr When I personally maxed out, my point was not to enjoy from every single step. Until certain point I liked skilling. I for example had nothing against farming or slayer just to mention few skills. I did them because I liked them. At one point I started to realize that I could get maxed. Because of this I did some things I didn't exactly enjoy, such as hunter, but it was in order to reach a goal that gave me the pleasure. I'd personally compare it to real life cooking: I don't enjoy the cooking itself, but the results are the things why I do it. For some people a good meal can give the pleasure, for some the cooking part is too much and they decide to use the microwave or for some the mom cooks good meatballs. It's about choices, someone is ready to "suffer" while cooking and some are fine with not-so-good ending. I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm
April 5, 201016 yr I agree with the opinions of "reaching the higher goal" but not necessarily passing the time. I mean, there has got to be something that is at least a bit more entertaining than clicking. If you're not having fun but need to pass the time, that opens a whole realm of other options. It could then be said, that you can clean your room to pass the time. If you say you don't think it is fun, then it is the exact same reasoning that could be applied to Runescape. In this case, both options are not fun but you choose one over the other for some other reason, and for that reason, I would like to find out. So if you guys could enlighten me on that point, that would be helpful. But yeah, I don't agree with people telling others how to play a certain way. The fun in Runescape from my viewpoint is how much variety is provided to the player. :) A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.
April 5, 201016 yr I fully agree. People telling me how to play is incredibly annoying, I will make defence my highest skill whether anyone else likes that Idea or not. What I dislike even more is that people actually think themselves superior enough to make those comments, and as an example, -str pures*- many have told me I should give up on defence, because it doesn't help, however, when it comes down to a fight, I tend to win, mostly because they can't land the high hits that they bank on to win a fight; and when that happens, they make some of the most pitiful exuses I have ever heard. *The following comment is by no way telling anyone that defence is the best skill and that strenght pures need to change their gameplay style. (mostly because I enjoy killing them.) :P Do keep a level head my friend,in times when Danger rears its headAgainst excessive joy defend,O, my comrade doomed to die. ἢ τὰν ἢ ἐπὶ τὰς
April 5, 201016 yr They do it for the sense of accomplishment of reaching their goal, don't tell me you've never gone through trouble in order to achieve something you really wanted? :)
April 5, 201016 yr I've gone to a lot of trouble to reach a goal... those goals, however, never have been in Runescape. At least not the uber-important ones. Do keep a level head my friend,in times when Danger rears its headAgainst excessive joy defend,O, my comrade doomed to die. ἢ τὰν ἢ ἐπὶ τὰς
April 6, 201016 yr You should only do something if you like it. Skillcapes dont matter really. I got 99 defence because I like the skill. Same with crafting now.
April 6, 201016 yr They're playing a game and not having fun. Meh. At least they don't shove their "amg must do all this crap I dun liek for capes and armorz and crap" ideals on me.
April 7, 201016 yr The game used to be played in a more casual way. Now you can find tons of guides that will tell you how to be an effective player. I see disrespect thrown both ways because more people now are trying to grind their levels and complete quests faster than they did before. You have to note, that the majority of users are males ages 13-24, and they are often immature and brash. I've met a few players who were well into their 30s and 40s who were courteous and nice. But that group of people is shrinking. In the end, the Ignore option is very handy. I've met people who had their Ignore lists full, and to see Runescape today, it's not hard to see why. Skill Capes, a new Generation, and competitive skiller mini-games is the cause of why more people today are grinding rather than appreciating how far Runescape has come.

April 8, 201016 yr Comparing grinding a skill to 99 to grinding for a quest requirement doesn't make any sense to me. The quest requirement is basically what it says - a requirement. A 99 isn't a requirement for anything, so forcing yourself to do something for so long that you don't even like? :wall: :wall: I mean, if you grinded a couple hours for a hunter level to do a quest that you really need to do, then sure, grind away, it's part of the game. But the important word here is "need", no one "needs" a 99, that's what's wrong with a lot of people nowadays, especially newer players who think "oh, im level 90 now, I need a 99 soon, so I'll just waste 50 hours to get 99 fletching that NO ONE will ever care about!" No, you DON"T NEED a 99!

No, you DON"T NEED a 99! I see what you are saying. Recently I've ran across a lot of players who have developed the attitude standard that you explained. I blame today's generation. They want and ask for a lot of things that they really don't deserve. I just go for a 99 because it was either a goal or it was something I wanted. I never forced myself to do anything on Runescape. These newer players try to fit in to be 'cool' and when they become more mature they realize how they made a fool of themselves.
April 11, 201016 yr nobody "needs" a 99 but if they want one than who cares if they grind out for it. they can play as they want ANAHEIM DUCKS
April 21, 201016 yr TBH i want 99 firemaking,because i really want to ,nothing more,nothing less,just kind of an "achievement" (note that how i use "achievement" lightly) 99 Firemaking 30-5-2010 | 99 Fletching 13-7-2014 TET-AU member:6-10-2010 - 21-10-2011
April 29, 201016 yr I definitely don't enjoy this game as much as I did when I first started, hence why I only log in once in while now. I really just play RS now to pass the time if there's nothing else to do but i'm still glad its around for those moments. Check out my Pocket Slot idea!
