I don't know what you're talking about.

Also, sore shins. They're a common consequence of sparring but jeez do they suck sometimes.

The only difference between Hitler and the man next door who comes home and beats his kids every day is circumstance. The intent is the same-- to harm others.

The number of stupid people on that show makes me want to smack my head against the wall.

Damn, I missed my chance at the new thread. If believing that immigrants on the whole often have skill mismatches is considered racist, then I really don't know what isn't.

EDIT @Alg - it's funny how a touch of cynicism is more in touch with reality than blind optimism, though.

I won't deny that, but your example isn't a fair comparison. Blind cynicism is about as realistic as blind optimism, except that too many people use it as a shortcut to maturity.

Somehow someone logged onto my Facebook from Stanford, California and I don't know how or why. Changed my FB password none the less. I'm careful about internet since I'm not a fool anymore so it's a bit weird.

Hah. By my definitions, I consider optimism inherently blind. I don't quite follow how cynicism -> maturity, care to explain?

I'm saying that too many people see it as a shortcut for maturity, not that it makes one more mature. Mostly it's the same attitude that your post contains - that optimism in any form is childish, so they seem to think that cynicism is inherently 'adult'.

By my definitions, I consider optimism inherently blind.

Then you probably have a pretty dark, unhappy life. What's wrong with having a positive outlook to life? What's wrong with grabbing the chances you get in the hope they'll turn out well? Sure, sometimes things will go wrong, but what will you have gained in your life if you didn't try at all because it wouldn't lead to anything anyway? There's a difference between optimism and naiveté.

Expect the best, prepare for the worst.

I had someone from North Carolina try to log in as me once. Added an extra character to my password. Pretty sure it happens when someone types your email in the login with a guess of a password. I'd say it's an accident most of the time.
