Castle Wars Improvements - Faithful Shield

Several people on RSOF have confirmed that the halos affect Turmoil. However, they do not affect Soul Split.

It's also a significant boost, pro-longing the amount of time you can use the prayer by 50% (reducing drain of the prayer by 33%).

And takes 110 hours to get, has no stats(well, nearly), can't be used for slayer, can't be used for pvp... umm...where would you use it? I even doubt that it is significantly better than neitiznot at armored zombies(only place i'd see an use for it).

To be fair lots of people already have tickets for it outright... Castle Wars has been out for how many years now?

It also counts as a GWD item (at least, the Saradomin and Zamorak ones do). It's definitely comparable to Neitiznot. Compare Halo/Bandos Chestplate with Neitiznot/Proselyte top for example. +11 Prayer and +3 Strength versus +4 Strength, +1 Prayer, what is essentially +10 prayer if you're using Turmoil / Protect prayers, or +15 prayer if you're just using Turmoil (disregarding potential stacking with prayer bonus, which only weighs further in the favor of a halo), and slightly better defense.

It's not an incredible item but I'm sure if you have it, there are appropriate places to use it.

Well it can be an useful item assuming you already have it, but if you don't, it's 0% worth getting for whatever you'd do with it. Over all, none of the items released are the best in game in any aspect, and when you include the cost in tickets, they are downright useless.

The shield is a rune kite with +6 pray, just fyi. I don't think anyone has noticed that.

Also halos appear to do NOTHING for curses >.>

Of course it has nothing to do with curses, curses are Zarosian. >_>

Edit: Apparently, they do effect some curses. Whatever.

Pretty much done with rs now

The Knowledge Base says the shield doesn't have any requirements to wield it.

Also: Can we sell back the items that aren't used in the CW game, such as said shield?

The challenge of a mistake is not to avoid it. The challenge of a mistake is dealing with the outcome.

Probably yes. I don't think the guy who made this thread would spend 900 tickets to buy all the halos if you can't trade them back.

Yeah you can sell back items for the full price as far as im aware.

The shield looks great i think, and since it has no requirements (or so it says), could be useful for low levels.

Zaros isn't involved in Castle wars is the reason. Unless you count the fact that so many people use ancients there.

Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home from a party after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with seven men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies who always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! if you had this childhood and loved it put this in your signature!

The players of this game never cease to amaze me. Items like these halos come out and everyone is immediately just breaking it down to how many hours it would take to get it and being like "yup, not actually usefull".

It's a game...

Take something like world of warcraft...raiding takes 5-10 hours per week and then in a few months all the time you raided wont really mean anything once the new badges come and the new raid comes out. Sometimes you gotta just play the game because you like it, and not because the thing you are doing makes sense mathematically...rofl

Shield isn't good; its the same as a rune kite but with a small pray bonus. The falador shield has a higher prayer bonus.

Halos are more of a money saver. If you piety a lot you'll be saving 1/3 off buying prayer potions, which I suppose can add up. But I'd much rather use a neitz helm, which has great attack stats and a nice prayer bonus.

By popular demand, this signature is back- however I currently do not have a blog up at the moment and if I did I wouldn't update it. Sorry, the sig links to nowhere :( .

Some people will certainly get the halos because they find CW to be fun, but people generally analyze new items so that they can decide whether or not spending the time getting the halos will give them an edge over other players. Runescape is, after all, a competitive game.

A good example of this is the rings from MA. No one likes MA (if they say they do, they're lying), but players play because the rings are worth the pain to some people.

I would disagree. I think its this widespread attitude that poisons the once light-hearted enjoyment that most people had with this game.

Now things are such serious business. And updates are either "efficient" or not.

Its a freakin game...You can take it competitively if you want. But you need to understand that this is just YOUR way of playing the game, and it is rediculous to diss this kind of an update just because using these are "less efficient" or something. The halos are cool, and fun. I like the update. For people who just dont want to buy as many prayer pots will love these.

People who do nothing but formulate numbers for this freakin videogame will rage and never use them. But I dont think anyone should call them useless...I think theyre great.

Personally, I like playing Runescape competitively. I think that being competitive and efficient is fun. I know what you mean though -- I absolutely love BA even though playing it offers me no real ingame advantage.

Even though none of these items stand out as being particularly groundbreaking, I like that they might have some use to some players. You're right -- there are players who would rather save on prayer potions and will find the shield and halos very enticing. It kind of reminds me of the Penance armor set effect. It has niche uses, but isn't something that you use all the time for its effect.

How does that shield not have any bonuses to magic attack, or even defence? It's friggin glowing purple, it has to be magic!

I know ey, I was expecting a small magic attack bonus. I imagine it would look pretty epic with an ancient staff, as the shield looks ancient itself.

Thanks for posting the images, was hoping someone would do a thread for these new items ^_^ I'm interested in the armour. Some guy was wearing a light steel coloured cw armour and matched the slayer helm perfectly. I'm all into outfits so yeah... lol :)

I mean, its just ridiculous the lengths that people go to. Take dungeoneering for example. People are like "These shields arent any good...with all the time it takes to get the dungeoneering level..."

Its just ridiculous. Back when slayer came out, nobody was like "Sure it would be cool to get whips, but think of all the TIME i spent training the skill! Is it even worth it?? I could make more money by merchanting for the same ammount of hours it takes to get 85 slayer!"

Unfortunatly, I think that would be the exact response of a lot of people if slayer was released now. I just shake my head, look at my inside out house, and keep playing the game for fun. I advise you do build an inside out building for yourself and do the same.

oh, and :P to anyone who gets the reference. (welcome to the asylum)

Well, the world is an asylum after all. BRB, I need to check the bowl that the dolphins gave me.

Don't think I'll be getting the Faithful shield, it isn't that great for me, since I have Falador 3 anyway.

I can confirm that the halos have a 50% decrease in the drain rate for Turmoil. I will now test this with Soul Split. Tests conducted with Saradomin halo.

EDIT: Confirmed Zamorak halo also decreases the drain rate for Turmoil. All Saradomin, Guthix and Zamorak halos do NOT affect Soul Split!

EDIT 2: I can now also confirm that these halos count as God items in the God Wars Dungeon!

To be honest, all I can think is that the Guthix one would look sexy with my Woodcutting cape  I'm not sure where I'd use a Sara though, I'd definitely use one in CW if you could since as a mage I tend to need defensive prayers.

Do the halos work as God items for the GWD?

Someone already said they do. I doubt he would lie, but I can't really confirm it because I don't have one.

World of Warcraft is fun though, while Runescape really isn't. Most people in Runescape absolutely detest the gameplay because it is repetitive and not that fun, however they continue to play because setting a goal and completing it is the fun part.
