It just wasn't as epic when you compare it to Chrono Trigger, because really what could follow that up? I do not blame CC because it came after a game you can't top. Ponies! Nadril
...Alot of those are MMO's. :S What happened to the ones who earned a boatload of awards? Zelda:OoT? Mario (..well, pick one of them), Final Fantasy X (or 7), etc? Still, at least you mentioned TF2, if you didn't mention that I might have had to stab you. ^^ Plus I would have preferred HL2 over the first since it gives a better understanding of the game's storyline of that moment in time. (obviously one needs to play HL1 to understand the beginning of HL2) I put one MMO on my list (Lineage II). Nothing else there is one. As far as the games you mentioned? They're good games, yeah (With the exception of FF7/X, ugh) but they never really hit me the same way games on this list did. I very much like the positioning of Baldur's Gate in this list. I do have a little question regarding it though - I used to play it on the original xbox, was this just a port or a different game entirely? Baldurs Gate for the xbox is a different game all together. It's pretty much just a generic hack and slash on console, it's a grand scale D&D inspired RPG on the PC. No DoW2? Obviously its a lot different from the original DoW but its very good in its own way. I didn't really like DoW2 much. I like building up bases in RTS games :P. Umm, question! Is Mass Effect 2 still-playable without playing the first one? Or will I pretty much be ignorant of the story so far? I'd like to play it, but I don't want to gimp myself on the story aspect. If not, I'll just get them both, eventually. xD It's probably best to play the first one first. Diablo 2 :thumbsup:Surprised no GTA games are there. I never was a huge fan of GTA. The only ones I've ever finished are GTA3 and 4. Surprised there are no Nintendo Games there, still good list No nintendo game really stands out to me personally. Alg
Very cool list. If there was anything that should migrate from MM&T, it's these  I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
TheValeyard
I'd have put Ocarina of Time in there somewhere, but that's just me. Good list  You played it when you were 2 years old? You must have been some kind of child genius.

You must have been some kind of child genius. You don't have to only play current games and nothing else, old games can be played at any time. A lot of kids also grew up with older systems when they first got into games. I was born in '93 and my first system was an Intellivision, and I ended up getting a PS2 when that came out as my next. Dakr06
OMG I just tried a ps1 game on my ps3 and it works, I didn't know it did lol, I heard people saying that before but never tried it before. Chrono Trigger is coming out and getting dusted off, have it for ps1!!!!!!!  I can also play Legend of Dragoon and harvest moon again now =D>

My disc 2 had a major problem and after the water dragon fight it wouldn't go any farther. Which blows because it was a good game from what i'd played of it. Ponies! Nadril
I'd have put Ocarina of Time in there somewhere, but that's just me. Good list  OoT is in the same vein as mario and stuff for me. I loved the game but it just didn't have the same impact on me as some of these other games did.
sohkmj1
Heheh I used my graphics card to force the graphics for DoW:Soulstorm so that it looks decent to say the least. Haven't played anything else on your list except Diablo 2 though (I'm horrible at it).
justcallmedaddy
You didn't put Valve's second best game (behind Half Life) Left 4 Dead on there. :(
Seraphi
I think I've played around half of those, and I have to agree, the ones I have experience of are some of the best I've played. Although I would have stuck Mario 64 or Galaxy in there, perhaps Monster Hunter (But I'm a monster hunter fanatic, so I'm a bit biased there) Or maybe Golden Sun. Mario 64 doesn't really stick out for me, Never played Galaxy and never played a Monster Hunter game (although from what I've seen it doesn't appeal to me at all.) Golden sun was a good game but yeah, not top worthy for me.

indy500fan
I can't really argue with anything on the list. My list would be different of course (pretty vastly different), but that is really no argument for any of those to not be on the list. The only thing I could argue for are a few more classic games (tetris, dig dug ect...).
Chewylobster
It's a good list but even though you said you didn't want to inflate the list with valve games, I would of still put those games in because they were probably deserving. It's good how you put some games that you played as a kid that you loved, even if most people would never of heard of the game. Or in retrospect you realise it was a pretty bad game. . 360 GT: hotdogstandyeah
blakdragon39
Huh my boyfriend downloaded Braid once... wonder if he still has it. I might give it another try. :P I've played a few of these games, and this list has given me some ideas for more to try. :D I'm looking into Demon's Soul and Trine right now. :o
____
The only thing I feel was missing was more from the micromanagement family... I'm not a massive fan of StarCraft myself, but admire the balance and skill that is required to actually kick serious arse in it. Granted you have series like AoE which are heavy on the economical things, in comparison to C&C which can turn into a click-fest if they drag out long enough but they improved in later years.. named AoE2x and C&C3 (They came close with RA2:Yuri's revenge but the balance was too much in favour of yuri)

____
Noted, they're good - but to actually be good at anything better than LAN games with casual gamers or against the AI requires some serious dedication and evaluation of almost all elements. And it is Something which most people just can't be bothered doing. And to be honest I don't blame them; unless you live in Korea and want to play StarCraft for a career there's no real reason to do it.

I've put a lot of time into HoN so far (which is... kind of an RTS since it's pretty much DoTA) but I just never had the patience to really get good at one. I did play Dawn of War over an online lan for a while though which was a lot of fun.
InkofDeath
For these lists, you should find people who are knowledgeable in different genres (FPS's, RTS's, RPG's). This list really hits me as an adventure/RPG themed list, even if it isn't specifically tied to the genre. I just noticed you didn't put Fallout 3 on here (if you got into it?). -.-

I just noticed you didn't put Fallout 3 on here (if you got into it?). -.- I conclude thats why there will be many lists in the future. Since this is a personal list, it can't cater to every and single genre. I know for a fact i despise FPS, even those made by Valve. It just never got into me. Of course that will effect my list. But if many people do many lists, there will be a wide range of games across all genres, and your favourite one will most likely be in there, reaching a generalised concensous (sp?) on what are the best games. I mean, i think so?
