Why does Jagex make such a big fuss about bank space?

Featured Replies

Considering the sheer amount of storage they have for everything, I'm sure adding a couple hundred more bankspaces would be extremely low server cost relative to what they are already paying. They can do it, apparently they either don't want to or don't have reason to. Or maybe just don't care...

Suggesting that adding bankspace would impact server costs is extraordinarily stupid. Runescape isn't hosted on TI-83s, do you think Jagex nearly goes bankrupt every time they have an update? As others have stated having a small bankspace limit is a balance issue. Jagex probably just wants to make people have to keep hold of the items most valuable to them.

On the topic of banking, didn't RSC have placeholders? Pictures have led me to believe as much.

I would be okay with this as well; heck, why not?

You know what I think would work? Have a minor quest that the reward is more bank space, like let's say a quest where you help find the manager (president w/e) for the bank that went missing and he gives you 100 more spot? Or you help stop a robbery from the bank or something? That way it's not just given to you, you have to earn it.

No. When you opened your bank, your inventory appeared inside it. The items that had no duplicates already in bank were in the end. Every item in bank had 2 numbers. The upper one showed how many were in bank, the lower one was the inventory count.

If you took out item it went to the end of the bank interface and the items after it all moved one space forward. You couldn't drag items back to their old spaces without taking out the whole bank... pain!

Ontopic: Clean your bank!

Use your POH costume room to the max. Put your pets in merganerie. Use keyring. Get rid of the items you don't need or haven't used for months. Use up your brawlers and effigies. Get rid of the 50 different costumes in your bank, you only need one or two. When did you last use mind, chaos, mud, steam etc runes? That's right, you never did, sell them. Drop raw materials you don't use. Why keep 100 silver ores you plan to smelt in 2 years? Why keep 10 skillcapes with hoods when you only wear one?

Stackable ess would be downright ridiculous...

At least runecrafting would be easier though :)

I don't think I've ever come anywhere near 200 spaces off the limit. I sell anything I don't use, and drop anything I can't sell. And I definitely don't have fifty rows of each potion in 1, 2, 3 and 4 dose spots. >_>

this. My bank is consistently under 150 spots used.

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

I only use 70/78 bank spots, not a problem at all. I had to drop my mime, zombie and camo, but atleast I got some space now :)

It's also usefull to buy a gembag from Dungeoneering, it stores all the gems saving 3 spots ;)

When I don't need ores, logs or bars, I just sell them in the G E. When I need them, I buy them again.

The G E is unlimited bankspace :P

if members where given 100 more bank space, thats roughly 1,200,000,000 bank space added total. maybe not a lot in some ways but its still not an amount ot be scofed at.

if f2p where given 100 more bank space (man would thay love that...) thats roughly 6,000,000,000 to 7,000,000,000 more bank space.

now im not going to say jagex cant do it, but thats is a lot of posible clutter for there servers, even if only a small portion of the memory.

A bank space takes up at most 32 bits.

32 bits * 1,200,000,000 is equal to about 143 megabytes, less then the size of your average 20-minute video file.

Size, database bloat, or technical difficulty here is simply not a factor. They don't give unlimited back space because:

a) Higher bank space is a good benefit for membership

b) There's a limited number of items you can actually have

c) Extra bank space upgrades boost morale

d) Who needs unlimited space anyways?

Limited bankspace is very much part of the game.

Construction rewards like the costime room and quest rewards like the keyring would be a lot less interesting with infinite bank space.

Technical limitations aside.

It's clearly a feature of the game. To be an effective Runescape player you need to be able to figure out what items to keep and not to keep. - and you can work towards various rewards which aid you in that by giving you more space.

i dont mean to sound like a troll, but you can allredy buy more bank space for real money.

you get dragon armour to boot! :P

I'm a Brony and proud of it!

Extra bank space is the lazy way of fixing it, because it will only increase the issues associated with the current bank system. It's hard enough to keep your bank from slipping into chaos over everyday use and quick banking, which is why we need placeholders, and more storage rooms.

The problem here is that the bank doesn't work very intelligently. Items that can combine into a smaller form, such as Grand Exchange sets, the keyring, essence pouches, the rock, gem and coal bag, where the result would be the clearing of one or more bank spaces, should do so. Of course, you should be able to specify which items to not do that. I'd like to be able to store items in storage furniture in my house remotely from a bank. It's things like that which would solve this problem, not bank space.

I think you should be able to "buy" bank-space, sold from any banker in-game, as it'd be a good way to remove money from the game, maybe something like 1M (1,000,000) a space, that seems reasonable I think due to the current economy.

I've always found that anyone, even a DIYER who runs out of bankspace as a member is utterly useless, especially with costume room.

I mean heck I've got most herbs, most seeds and endless stacks of logs planks and other skilling items; along with a good array of armour and weapons and stacks of potions and runes and pouches of all sorts and I still have a good 100ish free bankspaces.

Thing with buying bankspace is that most of the people who need it won't be able to afford it. Think about it, it's the high level players with costume rooms, no 4734737 banked quest items, no small, useless drops, etc and it's those same players who might able to pay millions for bankspace.

Imo, more bankspace, since the GE, is not necessary. Before, it was somewhat understandable to have clutter, as it could be worth quite a deal and was a pain to sell. Nowadays, as long as the item isn't being merched or is totally useless, you can sell it off in seconds.

Even further, with a few duelling rings and armor sets, you can save quite a few spaces while still hqving the armor readily accessable.

As someone said before, GE is unlimited bankspace.

When we've got the construction skill, something like this is unnecessary. Construction is a huge money sink, so why not give that more storage based content, and the result will be the same?

And people, use bookcases. They're only construction level 4, and they save a huge amount of space!

Well still summoning really puts a big chunk on your bank space... As well as herlbore/farming.. (I keep all seeds/herbs/pouches)..

However I do manage just fine with the current limit of 536 (constantly hovering around 30-10 free spaces).. However if a new skill such as summoning would be released bank space would soon hit the limit.

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

If you play the Treasure Trails game, you keep all the crap-assed items needed for Uri's emote clues... and that's a lot of space right there.

I used to always be bumping the limit. Now that I'm done with most of the resource-gathering skills, it's gotten better. I'm running with about 25 empty spaces. If not for the POH costume banks, it would be unbearable.

Still, I wouldn't turn down a few more spaces.

PvP is not for me

In the 3rd Year of the Boycott
Real-world money saved since FT/W: Hundreds of Dollars
Real-world time saved since FT/W: Thousands of Hours

For all that junk like books/costumes/heads/etc, that's what construction is for.

For skill items, use them up so you don't have to use them again. Summoning doesn't put up a huge chunk of space, it's just pouches, shards, charms, and only a few secondaries should be used anyway.

It's different in free play because of the lack of construction, but again, be efficient with your bank. Register an e-mail account, it's 10 extra spaces and you don't get junk from Jagex at all. Toss anything you don't need. I have ALL random event costume pieces but I still have spare bank space, because I only use things when I need to.

Jagex knows players are able to handle this much space so they left them as is. It's only when HUGE updates occur when they become friendly and add more spaces.
