anim7
The GE is such an inefficient marketplace for high end items. I long for the day when prices adjust to clear markets rather than being frozen. My solution is: Have an NPC convert coins into a box worth as much as the player wants it. It's a workaround to the java integer problem. It is treated the same as coins so that you can trade easily. Also, allow GE to accept these boxes as tender. You should be able to see the bid and ask for each item and the last trade price. Very true, especially for the bolded/italic part. Make it be pretty much like any forex home trading platform, especially with bid and ask. This would really only help when dealing with items in the middle of a turnaround. Most of the time, Bid/Ask are the same (at mid, low, or high). When I'm looking at an item that's turning around, I always do a few :test buys" to get the real bid/ask. Ya, and getting both bid and ask is hard unless you use a second acct. And even then, intraday price movements are hard to figure out. 100% F2P85 Mining achieved on Dec 4, 200785 Smithing achieved on May 28, 2009

Danqazmlp
Can I come in and just say that I got my yellow partyhat because it was the closest thing to a gold crown in the game when I got it? And to be honest, it still is as the Crowns actually look pretty pathetic imo. I got mine as it felt as thought it was the final achievement, to get the crown which I had sought after since I first started playing. Looking like a king is just something very cool. There are players who want them due to them being aesthetically rare. Much like those players who wear quest-specific items that are rare. They are used to finish outfits which could not be done without them. The monetary value on them does not matter to certain people. When a minority of the skills in this game actually involve combat, there can be an argument for buying any item no matter what the stats of it. Want to be my friend? What's this mean for my net worth? Highly inadvisable though, because they are all worth far far more then their GE price. Blue ~ 6bil or so street price. Hold onto them is probably best thing to do. MrGandalf
There's very few people who will pay such a high price for a hat they're going to keep and hold on to for sentimental value. I am one of those few. Trade me the phats I need to complete my set, and any extra you might have, and I'll gladly hand over the gps. I will be holding onto my phats forever. Yes, forever unless I can upgrade at a price I am willing to pay. Phat prices are simply the result of supply and demand. Nobody at Jagex has ever taken a serious interest in economics and it is the problems with the GE and trade limits that people hate, not necessarily the prices of Phats. If there was free trade or the GE actually reflected true market prices each Phat would be well over 1B gp and blue would most likely be max gp. The people who think that Phats aren't worth it, fine, that's your opinion, but don't tell me that they aren't worth it, cause there is clearly a market. IMO a Phat is worth any 99 ten fold, if not one hundred fold. For every gp you spend getting to that 99, you are forfeiting future price increases on a Phat (assuming you trade Phats for gp to buy skills). To those people who think Phat owners are elitists, grow up and get over it. I often lend out my Phats for free to anyone in my CC who asks, and also to random people I meet who are kind and/or ask nicely. Wanna borrow my Bunny Ears? Too bad noob! Youmu
Gandalf, if blue partyhats were max gp, what would Christmas crackers be then? =s Actually, the street prices for most rares are well above max gp, so nevermind. If the GE were allowed to update plenty for one specific item, the street prices won't be so high. Part of the reason the street is above Max GP is because there is confidence in the item, that it won't crash anytime soon. Besides, Street value isn't what the 'real value' is, because the junk has some value too. Just lower.
Squisher_33
it would be a decent investment if you could manage to snipe one from the ge, then let it rise for the next year while u train skills that dont take cash, then use it for some herb or pray after theyve stablised at a higher price
Kaida23
Honestly, if I was able to snipe one from the G.E. I'd probably never sell it. I'd spend the rest of forever bragging about how I got a partyhat for gp and not other rares. :^_^: Check out my blog to read the Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero. Pretty good, considering that my bank was worth 200M before and I recently came back from a break 6+ Months long. Also, I'm still not done training skills that doesn't require money-loss. So, yes a Partyhat or any rare is worth buying if you can get it from the GE, whether you are buying it/them because you absolutely love them and will never sell or buying it/them as an investment, it's still worth it as rares will always rise and shine.
meili
Well there are still quite a few players such as myself who have had their party hats since they were first released. *points to sig* Except I bought 7 Green H'ween masks so now I have a bank worth 700M+. I picked mine off the ground and now my bank is worth some ridiculously insane amount of gp so enormous it makes my head hurt to think of all those zeroes. Except that your probably cant hold that much cash at the same time. Exactly. Lol. Phats are kind of weird now honestly. I just used to keep mine because they looked cool and were pretty rare. Now they are such a big deal and worth so much that I'm almost afraid to use them sometimes. edit:typo The Runescape Wilderness - Meili's Blog

Tim
Buying one... tough call. For new players, I'd say they are most definitely not worth the time and effort.I wouldn't even bother if I was a new player. At this day, to start 100% fresh, you'll never attain a partyhat for many years Unless either you get very lucky in PVP drop wise AND your a good Pk'er, OR your a ace at merchanting OR skilling. Which if your new to Runescape, you wont be. I kinda wished I held onto that Easter Egg last year. brought 7m, sold 9m. I missed out on 150M or so. ;___; (8 years, never been rich) Popoto.~<
Piu
In my opinion, yes, rares are worth it. Why? Because they're discontinued. Their prices will never fall. Yes, in the case of deflation, but that's just in price, the net value of the partyhats will just keep growing and growing as time passes, to the point where it exceeds the 2147M trade limit. If you think buying them as investing method, you Should not use all your money to buy one/plenty. Why not? Simply because you're pretty much handless, if you just stick all your net worth into single item, waiting for years it to raise. You could make so much more using the money actively to buy/sell items in short term merchanting. No_99_Melee
I used to have a purple party hat when they were starting to get extremely difficult to obtain. It really isn't worth the few pixels you get to have on your head. You get used to it after a while and the phat loses it's value if you're the one in possession of it. Needless to say I bought the partyhat and resold it about a week later after I had my fun of taking pictures and whatnot.
Sir_Squab
Well, not that I'm anywhere NEAR being able to afford a P Hat, but I finally got a rare: Blue H'ween mask. Had to sell a bunch of expensive, not often used items for it; I think it's worth it though. I've always wanted a rare, and by the time I make back all the money to buy my old equipment back, the rare might've raised quite a bit in price. Whereas the items I sold for it are either stable or on a slow decline... I don't know if I'll ever be able to obtain a P Hat. Unb34t4bl3
IMO a Phat is worth any 99 ten fold, if not one hundred fold. I couldn't agree any more. These days 99s aren't a big deal anymore. All you have to do is look up a skill, and see there are thousands that have that 99, with some skills having over 100k! Basically the race to get 99s ended a long time ago... now it's a race to obtain the few remaining partyhats left on the market.
