for thouse who dont know, at a point far in the past the "world gate" was open alowing travle from other worlds to runescape.

 

one of thouse worlds was (most likely at least) earth, thus humans.

 

what would the efects of the world gate oponing again? with airoplanes, machine guns, jet fighters, jetpacks, flatpacked houseing etc

just think what the drawfs would think.

I think it would be horrible if they do something like that. I know maplestory does that kind of patches, they release totally random stuff, modifies content very much, gladly for them, they dont have the concern with PvP. But remember, if you put something new in the game, all the old stuff will be set aside, i feel runescape pretty much manages to balance newly released stuff.

Then why is this in General Discussion then? There is no reason to make a thread unless it has discussion value.

That being said, hasn't the World Gate already opened and then closed? Why would it need to be open again? I also doubt any being can pass (or know of) through the portal without Guthix knowing about it.

Discuss the theoretical consequences that would occur if the world gate opened and Runescape suddenly had access to Modern day items, technology etc...

 

Personally, I think we'd see 99% of all the gold in the game flood out of Runescape and into RL. It's only useful for shards and MTK (imo) and the occaional nominal fee charged by some NPCs (flying carpet, farmers etc). Aside from the obvious millitary hardware, I think the next most common import to Runescape would be transport. We'd have dirt bikes galore going between Falador and Lumbridge with ramps to cross the bridges.

Not everything has to have heavy serious discussion value, a lighthearted thread is hardly something to get up in arms about like a lot of you have done.

 

I imagine opening the world gate would bring in Stellar Dawn or something, so at the rate Jagex seems to be progressing with it, it's not going to happen in our lifetimes :P

If it opens, We can access Jagex HQ inside the game.

To answer your question; if the World Gate opened, life would go on as usual because it would be a pretty lame update anyway.

Well anyway, if I remember right, when the world gate opened up for the first time it brought through some humans.

These humans didn't seem particularly advanced as many ages later the human technology is around the medieval times (dwarfs have better tech).

So what we may see are either renaissance or other medieval time period people coming into the world gate.

 

A video showing the cutscene would be very helpful as I am probably wrong due to me doing that quest so long ago and a terrible memory and for this instance a terrible case of the run on sentence.

The world gate is just a convenient plot device for jagex.

They want to add something new they "open a world gate" and out fall a bunch of pests.

Jagex will never do anything with guns, tanks, etc, because they stick to D&D midevil fantasy although they use modern cultural references as jokes.

They don't do phantasy star/final fantasy type games.

I'm more interested into going into the world portal and going to the realm of demons or the frenskae (sic) world where the dragon weapons are made.

I have to agree with this.

The gods don't intervene anymore, so the chances of a world gate opening are slim to none.

 

This is why the creatures in Pest Control have to use portals to try to get into Runescape. Sorry, we're a closed gated community now.

My Response; The chances of the world gate opening is close to 0. Although it would be fun if it were to happen, but I see major flaws in the idea itself. A - What's going to happen to currency? B - PvP would be a nightmare. C - Machine guns? Seriously? If I wanted machine guns, I would be playing GTA.
