Really, has anybody else given up on combat?

 

I have.

 

I personally feel like combat is a bit too much of a chore. You have to train Dungeoneering to the Rapier weapons (a skill I don't like), Summoning if you want to be good at bosses/carry more equipment (another skill I hate training), and saving up and getting the expensive equipment is so tedious, and you can lose it easily if you die.

 

I guess you could say I gave up on combat because it's a bit too cumbersome, with the quests you have to do to unlock the areas and get the equipment, all the skills you must train to do those quests and to do combat well itself, and the money you must make in order to get the good equipment. :/

 

What's everyone's opinion on this?

Its always been this way.

Its best to take little steps and not worry about the "end game".

If you just want to train stats in combat there are things like pest control and soul wars where you can welfare it and make big gains.

If you want to combat and make some money in welfare gear there are places like barrows and dragons.

I like Dungeoneering and Summoning, so no =D

Your combat stats are good for your level. Maybe you've been focusing too much on it up 'til now.

You could take a break from it and look at other things about the game you enjoy, maybe train some skills or do some quests. Looking at your stats maybe set a goal of all stats 50+?

 

Anyway, I felt the same way as you not long ago and spent about a year without training combat at all. So don't worry about it- you might get the urge later on.

go train combat like we all did the slow way, you cant complain about not being able to use the fast way if you dont

 

complaining how combat has got easier and easier, but only if you get the right stuff, isnt realy a valid complaint, as the previous xp/h is untouched, the faster option is still there if you choose to move on, if not just continue on how you used to with a whip and a super set

I gave up on it when Pest Control came out. I just don't find training those skills fun anymore.

You don't need a rapier. I still use a whip. You don't need summoning. We trained combat long before summoning. You might not be as fast and efficient as people using summoning, but you can train. Grab an inventory of lobs, get your full rune and a scimitar (or 2h/battle axe if you really wanna be 'old school') . and go train at the skeletons on crandor in front of Elvarg.

Again, get your armor and some food, and go kill something. That is combat.

I've bolded my opinions. I like combat, slayer, dungeoneering, and I'm ok with training summoning to gain the benefits of the familiars

I was in the same position a while ago. Then I decided to try out slayer for a while, and from about 80 melees, all the way to where I am now, all I have done was slayer. I found a way to train that I liked, so I would advise you to go try out different types of training methods. You don't have to camp AZ's or anything to train melee stats.

I'm currently training DG'ing and I despise it. At the end of the day though, I'm gritting my teeth and getting through it because I enjoy other tasks like Slayer, boss hunting, etc and I want to be better at them. Every now and then I stop dg'ing and switch to firemaking or whatever other skills I have to train for the far off Elite Tasks. There are moments when I hit my wall and I absolutely cannot stand the idea of continuing because I'm just so disgusted with the path ahead but you eventually get over it. I think you've just hit your wall, TC.

I find combat, and getting things to help combat, fun to do. So no, I'm a long ways from giving up on combat.

You can't be good at combat without training it.

 

Just because you can't get the best equipment at the minimum level for it, doesn't mean you can't still train it.

Whip's still work fine as training weapons. You don't HAVE to have bob's holding stuff for you.

I still use a whip. It's efficient, just not as efficient as using c weapons (which I don't feel like training dungeoneering just for that).

I think it's good that there are so many requirements to be as good as you can be at combat.

 

However, I gave up on training combat 5-6 years ago. I train Slayer and Dungeoneering and combat just goes up with it.

Nope, I'm maxed combat now and got it on my way to 99 slayer. 99 att/str/def/hp/mage/range happend in no time.

 

I'm biased because I love training slayer though.

 

(didn't Einstein say: 'put your hand 1 minute on a hot stove and on another day have a hot girl sitting on your lap for 1 minute', same 1 minute, the second minute will pass a lot quicker for most of us)

I love combat.

 

On my good account every one of my 99s is combat based (att/str/def/hp/slayer/summ/herb(for overloads)/prayer). I also have 20m+ xp in all melee stats. I just can't stand skilling for most skills and only ever trained them for quests which I love doing.

 

I actually started a new account just so I could do all that again, and so far I'm loving it.

 

I wonder if I will ever get a skiller 99 aka fletching or cooking. I tried for each of those once but gave up rather fast.

And well, to the particular question, judging by the popularity of skillers in this game, there are quite a few who have. I, however, love that it takes more than one skill to be successful in pvp/pvm(not just strength).

Sounds to me like you don't like RuneScape.

Im actually the opposite on this view at the moment. I did skilling for awhile, and though I dont enjoy summoning, nor have i even attempted Dung (all lamps and tears of Guthix), I enjoy slayer. Right now my goal is 99 defense through slayer so Im enjoying it very much.

Who would give up on combat?

if you give up on combat, then you also give up on the most rewarding aspect of this game.

 

i find combat the most fun thing in runescape, so the day i give up combat is the day i give up runescape entirely lol.

So you don't like combat because it's too much work to train the skills, and train more skills to do quests to get better locations and equipment for combat? You don't like combat, skills, or quests...why are you playing Runescape again? :unsure:

I guess I'll stick it out and train it.
