I don't get into enough battles for e-pride for me to form an opinion on this. I can't really imagine myself really getting into one either. I think the best way is to just stay out of it.

Funny to watch, I will admit.

"• Noob"

How could that offend me?

"• Kid"

Being an adult, I know when I hear this that it's coming from someone who's not. It's that ever so common misconception that teenagers have that all adults speak to people younger than them in a condescending manner. It's either an attempt to make them seem older (and by hearing this I automatically know they're NOT), or to simply aggrivate me (which it doesn't). So: Fail X 2

"• Nerd"

As I am a nerd, I find this less offensive than being called a human being. Human beings as a whole are a disgusting and selfish lot. When someone calls me a nerd, I take that to mean that they're acknowledging that I'm smarter than they are. And if they have to resort to name calling, it's probably true anyways.

Do you know what the cool kids call nerds when they grow up?

Boss.

noob: yes i am a noob, so are you. everyone is a noob in one way or another.

kid (my vote): for someone to say this to me is only anoying becouse its not an insult. if your going to ofend me, do it right.

im just happy with the fact that i am superior to anyone who has to thorw garbage at me for any efect... and still fails.

:)

although... there are 2 things that annoy me...

"g@y"

and

"bad spelling"

its not that i have anything againt same gender atraction (even have a few good friends like that) but why do people use it to insult me? the only thing that i hate about that is when people use it to insult people... its not an insult!

as for my horrible spelling, sorry, that does not mean im some 10 year old, or that i am "mentaly delayed", its just means i have bad spelling. i cant help it, its the same as trying to change your self so you walk backwars everywhere. no real need and very hard.

Shooting blanks and using cliched pejoratives is usually counterproductive as it only ends up putting your own flaws on display. If you really want to get under someone's skin, effort is proven to be of tremendous aid.

PS: I do have to add that the UMADBRO thing is quite intriguing. Is it really that humorous that people doing stupid things makes other people angry? It is a bland, pitiable, and sadistic interest at best. Congrats bro, you win the "interwebs" or whatever it is that you need from life.

The best way to respond to someone's insults/disrespect is either simply ignoring them, or just laughing (not blatantly at them-- more like to yourself).

Also, being friendly to someone, even if they're trolling you, does wonders. Whenever I'm training at a competitive location or monster hunting and someone comes in to challenge me for my spot, I always say "Hey man," to them before they can start interfering, or act like they're someone familiar that I may have known in the past. Most of the time this makes people feel too guilty to crash me or try to give me a hard time.

If anyone blatantly insults you and you for whatever reason and you just want to pacify them, you can respond to their insults by immediately changing the subject and acting as if they never insulted you. It's a good way to "reframe" the situation as if you're both friends.

These principles apply to real life as well btw.

For example, if someone insults you on RS, the easiest thing to do is to ignore them and neutralize the situation:

Stranger: Noob

Me: [no comment]

But if you feel the need to make them regret insulting you:

Stranger: Noob

Me: [no comment]

Stranger: [more insulting comments]

Me: haha

Stranger: wats so funny

Me: hahahahaha

...and I just keep laughing until they go away or I get bored and add them to my ignore list. They get angry.

If you wanna pacify the person:

Stranger: Noob

Me: Slayer level?

Stranger: #

Me: awesome!

...and that's usually the end of their negative remarks

-OR-

Stranger: Noob

Me: whoa nice hits

Stranger: thx

...and that's usually the end of their negative remarks

Eh wow. I'd never do that. Guess it's personal preference. Lucky this thread is about that :P.

Only two words annoy me: 'noob' when it comes from lowerlevels towards high cb people, especially if they're wearing untrimmed cook cape and big mouth people coz they actually were patient enough to grind down one skill...

Kid annoys me because I'm 26 and it makes no sense if a teenager calls people 'kid' without knowing them...

I must admit I try to avoid getting annoyed, to avoid getting muted :)

Good strategy. :)

I, personally, am never bothered and just ignore them. It takes a butthurt idiot to respond to someone who calls someone a 'noob' or something else like that on the internet.

Keep saying 'Mad'

They usually rage in the end.

Just "Mad"? Haha that's so crazy it just might work. ;)

When someone calls me "kid," I call them "father"

I'd never do that. It gives them too much satisfaction. :shame:

Nope. They get satisfaction out of having people attempt to resist them, so that they can continue harassing them. I learned this from one of my best friends in middle school, who was sometimes made fun of because he was a bit metrosexual. When he got called names, he just said, "Yep, yep. You got me," and stuff of that nature. It stopped, and now he has a very cute girlfriend and is successful in college.

I've actually seen that in action as well; but I'm under the impression that most people who troll just want to see you succumb to their empty threats and whatnot.

There should be an option for none because personally i dont get affended by any of those over the internet lol, its just words from another person's ignorancy, which isn't worth getting affended over =P

lern2spell, go back to school kid.

Be nice, he's just contributing. :P

The first 3 are all equally pathetic. I like the 4th one though :)

Quite interesting isn't it. :D

Number 4 because the first three seem to just be putdowns, but umadbruh seems to be used purely to aggravate.

I especially hate when people keep saying "Umadbrah? Umad?" over and over. Get some originality please if you're trying to make me angry, lol. :shame:

I don't get into enough battles for e-pride for me to form an opinion on this. I can't really imagine myself really getting into one either. I think the best way is to just stay out of it.

Most of the words people use nowadays don't bother me, apart from being called a "Kid" by a...kid. I see it so often now that I've stopped caring, for the most part, but there's still that "*Facepalm*" feeling when one uses the word.

If anyone were to use those 'insults' to me I just say "TY" and click ignore.

As for 'umadbrah' I dont even know what that means. Probably because i'm not at school or a kid. Response is likely to be"LOLWUT?" Followed by "welcome to ignore"

Umadbrah is basically a stupid phrase used in attempts to induce anger. Only works on infants and toddlers. xD

Nothing really annoys me. It's the internet, half the people who are [wagon] are that way because the internet makes them feel powerful. I guess the worst thing is personal attacks to a person's character, but even then there's a good chance the fellow making these remarks has a good number more character flaws than yourself. I don't really agree with the dude you quoted on saying that all the "cool kids" call the nerd boss one day. Sure, it does happen, but it just seemed more like he's been picked on a lot and that's his mental deflection strategy. Interesting topic.

I don't ever get offended by anything.

I mean it's just words...

I mostly just laugh a little, because I know when they say that stuff, I can just say "U mad?" :D

It would be worse if they would invent a way to stab me in the face through a webcam.

Lol...I was once called a 'range-noob' while killing metal drags with a rune c'bow. Guy was 40lvls below me, and subsequently died due to a combination of unweilding his antidragon shield, and his pathetic 44pray running out. Oh, and congrats amitoz, for finally making a thread that isn't a complete waste of peoples' time....

When people in PvP run away yelling, "U mad rofl?" that is really annoying. No, I wasn't mad, but now that you mention it I will grab my claws and some barrage runes and spend the next hour hunting you down.
