We keep pulling up threads where someone got efficiency trolled. For every one of them there's a dozen others where the efficient advice helped the poster achieve his/her goal.

You mean where people post useful advice and the op throws it back in their face? I've never seen someone troll people by telling them to use the best methods available to them. People don't seem to even know what the word troll means.

There seems to be this idea that every single time an "efficiency troll" posts in H&A, they begin their post with "you're a moron, you should be . . . []" when that is definitely not the case. I'd like to ask those of you with personal vendettas to stop posting falsities to prove your points. Discussion in H&A usually only devolves into flaming when a) someone discredits a suggestion or a piece of advice on the basis that it's "efficient" and b) when someone suggests a bad idea and defends that idea despite evidence to the contrary, effectively derailing the discussion.

 

Both of these scenarios should be against the rules in H&A, and I'm fairly confident we'll see that amendment made soon. I guarantee that the amount of flaming and unproductive argument would decrease.

 

As far as Danq: He's already mentioned that he's against improving H&A, so his usefulness as a moderator is suspect at best. I would think that the mods would be trying to reduce the amount of flaming whilst simultaneously improving the forums they moderate, but I guess not.

Troll essentially means "to piss off", and lol means "I find what you said to be amusing"

No it doesn't. Trolling means to purposely annoy someone for you own enjoyment. If you think helping someone out and posting a much better training method or setup is trolling, you are incapable of being helped and should expect people to treat you like a [wagon].

Posting bad advice with the knowledge it is bad is trolling and action would be taken against the account.

Just get a slayer helm or black mask and some super attack/strength pots and your ready to go.

Don't throw millions of gp at a skill that makes you money if done properly.

 

Are you saying even at current prayer potion prices, piety is not worth using?

I don't use it.

But can do it however you please, but it seems silly to me to have to go out of your way to make money just to do slayer which for most people is a fun skill that makes money.

 

I think he finds it fun to be inefficient

Thank you for reposting one of my recent trips into help and advice.

Despite this being reposted out of context and lacking the original post, you can see what makes me proud.

I was curteous and helpful.

I even offered a bit of humor to I_troll_Gol.

Afterall, do you know how many people got 99 slayer with just a whip, black mask/slayer helm, and super pots?

Alot, since overloads, choatic weapons, and all that jazz only came out in the last couple of years.

Why did you leave out the last half of my quote where I said that way more people are helped than get trolled? I'm not saying posting efficient set ups is done to provoke the OP, im saying that on rare occasions the OP asks for something specific and gets his answer in the form of do something else. Which is off-topic. In a topic about what way of runecrafting for cash is the best if the response is go kill frosts that is off topic. Which by the definition you kindly linked is trolling. A response that wouldn't be trolling would be "blood runes with tabs is x gp/hr, however this is a relatively low amount for income and y would be a better option for you if your goal is money".

 

All that to say my point of the post your quoted was that actual trolling is rare, it just happens to stick in our memories longer. Physiologically because the chemicals released in your brain in response to something that gets your angry are about 7 times more potent (take 7 times longer) to be processed and removed than the ones released to something nice happening.

What's really odd is that somehow I have this strange feeling like I have taken a major part in this.

Perhaps, it's because I coined such key terms as efficiency clowns, efficiency trolling, and dungeonsweeper.

Advice should be given by experts who know of the proper way of doing things. Efficiency is that expertise.

To add a final thought to this before I go to bed that might stir up some interesting discussion: how many of you have ever done the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator? I've done a lot of classes on it and I'd be curious how many of us on the efficiency side of things are Thinkers and how many on the other side are Feelers. As a Thinker I never found blades posts to be mean, just blunt, and found that the people offended were over reacting (probably because they are Feelers).

I'm on the 'other side' I guess and I'm a Feeler but that really is purely anecdotal. I really don't want want this to become an issue of 'Well, some people are just too emotional (Feelers) while others are good and logical (Thinkers)' either.

 

Besides, even you believe in it, the MBTI test itself claims it's more complex than simply being F or T, because the iNtuintion/ Sensing function is also used.
