Developers Console...

I'm curious. Recently, some rs machinima makers have been able to twist their camera in all sorts of directions. (Like viewing from the ground up.

Could this have something to do with the developer console? I've been curious as to how they've accomplished these angles.

Example:

Isn't that sort of angle perfectly possible with the Orb of Oculus from Faruq? I know upwards angles like that can be tricky and take a little button mashing of the up and down arrow keys, but I've had similar angles with the OoO before.

No, it's all Cheat Engine, and it's really easy to do, all the Machinima / RSMV f**s want to keep it secret because they're so greedy, I'm going to make a tutorial on how to do it, along with the color swapping BS.

On topic though, this is totally separate fro the Orb trick

Cheat engine is also awesome because you can make yourself look like any npc model in the game, if you can guess the ID.

Walking around as a distorted Jad is pretty hilarious. My favourite, however, is Flesh Spoiler (dungeoneering boss) because it glitches and has crazy particle effects shooting out from you constantly.

Thanks if you release a guide for it. Cheat Engine is not only usefull for emotes and NPC changes i see.

Btw on the RS client:

it's not only open sources, it's FREE software licensed by GNU. - This means you're epxlicitelly allowed (and even pushed to do it) to make changes & re upload the client yourself. - Given you give users the same freedom (so you also have to license it under GNU), "copyleft". - Also as modifications belong to the dev-tree of the original client if the original client is allowed to do something, so are the modified!

There is however a but: you can not name it the official client anymore.

So now that we (I) know this, when can we finally see really modified clients?

Like it rewritten in C++ and taking advantage of real directX 9/10 features (and the speed of native assembly instead of java bytecode, this should be especially visible in the "3d-features" part - using JAVA completely defeats the point of having a dedicated video card).

I have never been able to get the angle that far down, the orb would refuse to do it, at least for me. :P

Alright, thanks. |^_^|

So is the only way to get the different views to go through the tutorial on youtube? I don't feel that comfortable downloading some random files youtube tells me to download. Are they all safe?

Just look through the source java files if you don't trust others..

You're downloading the client off an actual runescape server, so that is safe. That's also why it looked slow downloading.

The 3rd party hex editor offered is commonly used and is ranked pretty highly. You don't like it, then use your own.

The only thing you have to worry about is the separate launcher. But as Pulli said, look through the source java files.

The line you're supposed to change in the video you mention is outdated now anyway.

When you say "client", what do you mean?

Do you mean the java client that is basically the game window, or the watered-down version of IE that allows you to access the rs site?

Which of those two are open source?

The watered down IE version Jagex is parading around as a "client" - which it isn't, not really - is the one that's open source.

The one you rip/download off any of their servers isn't, according to their fine print.

This thread is now about SimCity

Anyway, can someone post a nice zoomed-out image in high detail?

When do they realise that it is NOT cheating if you do these kind of things?

The data is still already available, but instead of visualizing it through numbers in memory you use your graphic card to visualize it..

If they don't want people to see far, they should simply not send the data to the computers!

It's a violation of their TOS to mod the real client, therefore it is cheating. Sure, they allowed some access to their dev console, but I don't think they reckoned anyone would play around with trying to unlock more client-side commands.

Some screencaps below, the quality is terrible due to my being on a work laptop:

EDIT: reply to Wolfie's post

But it's often been that way for a while. It's why I feel most players' attitudes toward the game has been poisoned or jaded or whatever you want to call it, especially after the Free Trade referendum.

God, sometimes I really hate how Jagex handles situations like this... Actually, they seem awful and dishonest at handling all situations. They expect us to trust them when they say "nobody earned an obscene amount of money off the climbing boots change" or "the infinite gold bug is definitely fake", but they also think they can get away with blatant lies? When they do crap like that, I become less and less sure of anything else they've said in the past. I mean, has the Jagex PR team even heard of "credibility" and how to maintain it? :wall:

Is it possible that people messing around with these codes could affect other players? For example, I was standing with a group of people who i knew were using them and every now and then, all other players would disappear for a few seconds. Another time I got a really weird zoomed in shot of my character's head. To me it seems as if what one person did with their client couldn't affect anyone else but it's happened a few times now :S

They can only change things in their client and would be unable to change anything in anyone elses client without direct access to their client (ie, they would have to have control of your computer).

Give the CM mods a break, they aren't paid to know about the game.

Of course they are going to debunk it ASAP.

Blizzard CM mods know about the game though.

Stop making excuses for Jagex's failures, its embarrassing.

Well I'm sure WoW CM mods are also paid to know. It's no excuse (they could easily ask someone who knows) but it's understandable that a customer service rep doesn't know all of the ins and outs of the coding of the game client.

Then maybe Jagex should set up a private "knowledge base" for employees only, so the CM people could at least look things up (e.g. whether or not an upcoming update is planned, what they are/aren't allowed to leak, what little-known or debug items may exist, and what codes exist for developers) before spreading misinformation. Think about it - if the CM people at least knew about these things, they could report potential problems much sooner. Making the CM team ignorant of the game means that it takes longer for the managers and coders to learn that players have found some sort of exploit. If they could at least pull a search in their private database and see, "oh, this person's not bsing", they would realize someone has to be notified of the problem.

If that mod isn't intentionally lying and really doesn't know, then it still makes Jagex look like jerks, and it also means problems take longer to resolve within their company.

Hasn't communication from the developer mods and the community mods always been operating as if they were fogged or bottle-necked? The mistakes in the knowledge base on the main website for things like dungeoneering weapon stats, the stat resets being bugs, etc.

If they strengthened this it would address all sorts of problems and the company's image.
