@Dan3HitU
This is a little rant so read it or not.... Basically, I haven't logged in since March this year, I get a couple of messages on FB and Twitter telling me that I've been hacked into (my RS account) which I think is obviously not true as I haven't logged in since March and I only login to RS on one laptop, which is fairly secure to say the least, so keylogging isn't an issue. I logged in (after recovering my account!) just now after getting in from work (3am) and find my bank empty of rares/cash, armours, weapons, etc.Bank pin removed and all my recovery questions changed so someone either knew all the information about me (highly unlikely) or someone at Jagex wasn't paying much attention to whoever tried to "recover" my account, as there's simply no way they could have had access to my old transaction IDs and old bank card details. Anyway, rant over, has anyone else been targeted lately or is it just me? (Like I said, I've been inactive since March). TheKoolKandy
Could have been one of your friends recovering you for all you know, unless you had a random string of letters and numbers for answers. Don't see why you'd care though since you don't even play. :P And if you were planning on coming back this could just give you something to do. I've been hacked twice but both of the times have been 100% my fault for being an idiot. Though neither resulted in any real losses (first one was my first account, level 67, and the second was my current account this year and I got everything off it plus recovered it). Tim
Happened to me ODDLY ENOUGH during the time frame I was moving states, so someone had to have known me in order to pull it off. tl;dr - lost 120m, major main acc, back to using my old main with nothing and Jagex denies every recovery attempt. Popoto.~<
Logdotzip
lots of my friends are being hacked, conversely, i know a lot of people hacking.... they got into many accoutns with phats and even managed to compromise Mod Ajd's account. acc security on rs is terrible. i recently found out people have been trying to recover my acc multiple times a day for the last couple weeks... i advise you all to make an entirely separate gmail account to register to your rs account, tell no one about it, and make it only be recoverable through a text from your phone. makes things a lot safer. my youtube
ForsakenMage
If you do not believe that you have been compromised because of a keylogger, you may need to look to see how much personal information you have on-line that is connected with your screenname or any of your messenger handles that are public. I know you may think that you have nothing that can lead to enough detail to you, but you'd be surprised. There has been, from what I've seen, quite a huge influx of "doxing" where people are recovering whatever accounts they can get their hands on. BeNiceOk
As Forsaken mentioned above; Keep in mind that certain information is heavily weighed in the Recovery process. For the sake of not encouraging others, I won't say exactly what information that is. All I can say is, using just 1 piece of information (which is easily obtainable given the right circumstances) you can recover an account. I was able to recover 2 of my old accounts with only this one piece of information, providing no previous passwords, no billing info, and no recovery info. Your average Joe wouldn't be able to hack you this way, but an experienced Hacker would have no problem doing it. Don't just be careful what you do, but be careful where you go. BioIce
Bills and receipts aren't really necessary, just other personal details only the owner would know about. Social engineering's probably the most successful and common form of hacking for Runescape. Frankly, I think it's amazing recoveries can get so far on so little. Prepare to Die! Shyla
I've noticed there's been a lot more incidents of accounts being hacked lately. I know several people who have been hacked just this past week, two yesterday actually (one just came back from a 4-month break). WoodenFruit
Witchy's rule to minimise loss via hacking: 1. Have tons of stuff in your bank. 2. Go to bed at stupid times. 3. Be friends with Deo. 4. Have items that no-one recognises. 5. Laugh at hacker's stupidity instead of whining over lost items. ______________
Zimberfizz
Someone close to you, someone you share a lot of things with has recovered you. Either that or you spew a lot of information about yourself to the internet and they found your information by simply googling it all. If not, you may have been infected by a Lifetime FUD Java Key Logger/RAT/Stealer because [Caution: Executable File]'s don't stay FUD for more then 2 weeks to a month unless it was crypted privately. @Dan3HitU
There's no way I would get keylogged, click silly RS links or anything. What annoys me the most is the fact that clearly my account was inactive and I had no idea just how many times people had tried recovering my account. Jagex should have a "lock account" option to people who either require or quit for a while. Obviously I know Jagex never replace items, but as it has happened to me I can honestly say I doubt I'm ever going to play again. Although they are only pixel items, it all took me over 8 years to get, not to mention all the 99s I had banked for BSXP's... armours, rares, etc. Ah well, no idea what will happen, I suppose I could ask Jagex to maybe take legal action on the offender, but I doubt they'd do such a thing. pulli23
I've in the past also been hacked quite a few times. Each time it happens when I don't log in for quite some time. I tried "hacking" my own account: and with only information about last log in, previous IPs used and general date I started I got an account back I didn't log in for a year. Now these things are public by the simple fact that is how internet works, there's no way you can hide these. Weird thing is: I was denied a few times, but after a certain amount of attempts I got my account. First they came to fishingand I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing Then they came to the yewsand I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews Then they came for the oresand I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores Then they came for meand there was no one left to speak out for me. Kimberly
There's no way I would get keylogged, click silly RS links or anything. I played for 5 years and never had a keylogger. Piu
Hackers have access to Damage Inc.'s databases. They have Tip.It's database too. From those, they have possible previous passwords and IP. Which also gives them knowledge to your exact location. Creation date of your account was leaked when you posted it on a thread here not long ago. Given those information, some research and social engineering is all they need.
