Slayer as a combat skill?

So, shouldn't slayer be a combat skill? Like for instance affect your combat level and even it out from 138 to a even 150 at max?

I think it should be just for the fact that it uses ALL the combat skills to do slayer and helps out a lot. If they did change this they should also implement that with every 1 level of slayer it gives you extra damage against certain monsters or let's say faster kills for some.

What's your thoughts and opinions?

Leave it. Attack, Strength, Defense, Magic, Prayer, Ranged and Summoning all make you more dangerous in combat in any situation where you are using combat. Not just against slayer monsters. Against any monsters, players, beasties within damenheim, ect...

 

138 is just fine.

Ya I get that I just think it would help since all sorts of new high level armor and weapons and stuff came out, ya it wouldn't affect PVP but it would affect monster killing making slayer tasks faster and getting more kills easier.

Like let's say for instance at level 80 you got the oppurtunity to do 10% more damage to dragons (All of them)

and at level 99 10% more damage to abyssal demons and so on and so on

Slayer is a combat skill, but not a skill that affects your combat level. This is because Slayer doesn't really affect PvP situations. Since combat level only really matters against other players (since it's meant to show off your level TO other players rather than NPCs), it shouldn't really affect combat level at all.

That's an interesting idea actually... but as Killerred said, combat level doesn't matter in PvM.

defence

magic

attack

strength

range

summoning

so mage, and range should bump it up more than the low that they do, and slayer should be able to add more to the table to, maybe topping off at 200?

Or if they DO implement 120's to the game 200 could be reserved for that?

You don't seem to understand how your combat level is calculated. There are three combat level formulas, one for Melee, Magic and Ranged. Your combat level is whichever is highest. So if your melee combat level is highest, your magic and ranged levels would have no effect on your combat level unless you increased one so that your Magic or Ranged combat level was higher than your melee, and then your combat level would switch to displaying that.

 

This three tiered system will probably never change because it would break the combat levels of some pures and hybrids.

Just because you don't like the look of 138 as the max level doesn't mean it should be changed. Slayer helps you train combat. It should NEVER be a combat skill. As for rising combat skills to 120, they said they wasn't going to make any of the current skills to 120, they said Dungeoneering is unique.

 

TLDR Version: 138 is going for be the Max Combat level for now....

If any skill should be added to the combat level formula then it's herblore. There's a few useful reasons to back this up.

 

-It balances the three gods concept: Prayer=Saradomin; Summoning=Zamorak; Herblore=Guthix

-It boosts skills much like summoning and prayer.

-The concept of untradeables make Herblore a potent skill for combat

 

Of course, if Jagex makes herblore part of the combat formula, it will need to introduce about 20 more untradebles that get unlocked from lower levels of the skill. In addition, the benefits from untradeble potions have to be more significant than the tradeable counterparts. Things like stat boosts that last a set time or mixed potions such as an actual super set. IIRC, if herblore got 1/8 skill level to the combat formula, then the max level would be 151.

 

Really though, Jagex should scrap the combat level concept and instead go for combat potential based on both the character's stats and the equipment they're carrying in inventory.

Summoning isn't Zamorak and prayer isn't Saradomin. All gods have pious followers in war (capable of using piety, in RS terms) and only Zaros is special with his curses. Summoning is used by people of all gods as well - the two summoning shops are run by a Guthixian and a Bandosian respectively. Herblore is primarily associated with Guthix only because of the natural ingredients used in potions and the druids discovering them.

 

That being said, overloads are a major addition to combat performance. However since they can't be used in the wilderness, adding them to combat level is fairly pointless.

It would make more sense to make Dungeoneering a combat skill than Slayer, that actually allows you to access the most powerful weapons in the game, whereas Slayer only allows you to kill monsters arbitrarily assigned a slayer level.

Slayer is combat related, but it doesn't improve your combat ability at all.

Dungeoneering is combat related AND unlocks a useful weapon in all fields, that has just as much reason to boost combat level using your own logic.

Herblore is a bigger boost than both.

 

I do quite like the idea of being able to deal more damage to slayer monsters with your level though. It would be a great way to make slayer a viable combat training method (It's decent at the moment with some blocked tasks but it's still far from the best possible choice.)

 

Maybe expand the kuradel dungeon to cover almost every slayer task, and implement it into the ferocious ring. Make it's damage increase by your slayer level. Maxing at +99. Or +104 with wild pies. Also make the now larger caves easier transversable with more agility shortcuts or teleport portals.

Slayer isn't a combat skill because people with 99 slayer have no advantage in PvP against a person with equal stats, yet 1 slayer.

 

They do if one is wielding an AVW and the other a normal whip :mrgreen:

 

That's true, though the AVW also has an 85 attack requirement. Same could be said w/ dungeoneering and chaotics, though those also have combat skill reqs to wield
