Behind the Scenes 18: New Challenges, New Security

Featured Replies

The challenge system actually looks like it could be quite interesting but I will reserve judgement. Other than that not the most fascinating BTS ever but still we seem to be get a fair amount of reasonable-good updates recently which is nice.

A few spoilers for the new quests this month...

Barrows Items: 1x Dharok's Platelegs, 1x Veracs's Plateskirt, 1x Dharok's Greataxe, 2x Torag's Platelegs, 1x Akrisae's War Mace, 1x Ahrim's Robeskirt, 3x Akrisae's Robetop, 1x Guthan's Warspear, 1x Akrisae's Robeskirt, 1x Torag's Helm, 2x Verac's Brassard, 1x Karil's Pistol Crossbow

With how they worded this, it almost sounds like the Challenge system and the Task system are two different entities entirely. Meaning the 700 or so of them they mentioned, will all have to be done one at a time...

Sweet, something to do.

How many hotdogs does it take to mow a garage door?

Video is private. :(

I saw it earlier. Possibly because there's an accidental leak. I got a screenie one min.

Jagex has managed to botch a few updates that sounded great in concept, but I have to say that so far, the challenge system sounds good.

I am wondering - no efficiency expert: The mod working on this mentioned that drop mining iron ore is the fastet method - is that still true? Wondering if they actually are familiar with all the skilling methods :P

It is for F2P. Unless we're getting a major update or access to the LRC.

THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

inb4 SoF and Solomon appear permanently on that noticeboard when it's released :P

Here's the video again...

The challenge system has potential to shake things up a bit with training. I'm just not convinced that the experience gains will be equivalent or superior to the most efficient methods out there.

JAG - meh, I suppose I was holding out hope that they'd implement a two-step authentication in regards to account security. Ah well, not everything can use an RSA fob...

...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.

They blurred out a couple of screens from the original copy to obscure a couple of IP address on an excel sheet. I look forward to something to break the grind of training skills. Can't wait!

Edit: They seem to forget to register fraps at about the 2:17 mark.

I've been excited for the challenge system all month. I'm hoping it gives me that push to leave the GE, and actually gain some xp in Runescape. It looks promising at least (knock on wood).

The challenge system seems great. But I really hope that next week's update is the botany bay one and not the challenge system. We really need to get rid of those bots now.

Sounds like you want to play a game of 'Who can be the bigger pessimist?'

As there are only two weeks left in September it seems to me like they'd combine both of those into one update, and the Al Kharid/new quests update into the other.

I do agree with you that the new bot nuke needs to be done sooner rather than later, but if it takes a bit longer to get it right I'm wiling to wait. Measure twice, cut once. ;)

The Noticeboard update looks pretty nice, but seriously.. +700 Challenges?

I don't care much for the Challenges update, but the security update looks interesting. :)

The challenges are not tasks, the point is not to complete them all and never do them again. As such, a large number of tasks is good because it makes sure they are varied

It's already active since the last update.

Nothing on legacy account security :( Ah well.

Challenge system looks real nice, and it actually looks like a clever adaptation of this suggestion that was posted on tip.it back in June.

Thats kind of cool. The thread was made in June 2011, so I wonder if that influenced Jagex to create the challenge system. A little over a year sounds about right for a new idea from concept through completion.

Have the courage to change the things you can, the patience to accept the things you can't, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Seems like the noticeboard is just going to make looking through quests and the such laggier.

The Challenge System, on the other hand, is P2P. The noticeboard is F2P.
