As with every religion, if you go through the holy text you can always pick out specific verses (most likely out of context) that suit your purpose.

I just watched the morning news on TV, and apparently some newspaper in one of the countries where the riots are strongest are hosting a competition to create cartoons offensive to Jews. Apparently this is supposed to prove a point. I think it will, but not in the way they intend. Don't get me wrong, I do not make claims that "most muslims" are like this or any statement that suggests it is a "majority". Fact stays however that the problem is bigger then "just a few extremists", especially when important leaders of these middle-east countries are part of the extremists and terroristic parties can win an absolute majority in elections in these countries.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The problem is big and that has been denied for decades - and it has absolutely nothing to do with these cartoons. Especially with the current situation where Iran is continuing development of nuclear weapons and Hamas has an absolute majority in Palestina, a total war situation in the middle-east seems nearer then ever before.

Much of the Middle East has clearics that preach radical views, these people won't stop until the entire Western World converts to Islam :/ You can't just go in there and kill them all since Islam is the world's 2nd biggest religion, if you kill 10 million radical islams then 500 million Muslims who were quite happy with the West would soon wan't vengence against the slayer of 10 million of there people. What do you do then, kill those 500 million?! The only other options are sucumb to them and covert to Islam or somehow win them over peacefully. Well Freedom of Expression is not limited to where people are "insulted or offended". That's the whole point, Freedom of speech, expression, whatever, is freedom to say whatever you want as long as it is not physically threatening to someone. For instance you can't walk into a court room and yell: "BOMB!" and claim that you have a right to yell whatever you want.

I agree that the Danish newspaper perhaps went too far in publishing that cartoon and should've known the reaction it would create. However it was their right to do so, no matter how dumb it was. I think that these militant extremists are giving Islam a bad name, not only in America but across the globe. Islam is a peaceful religion as a whole and I don't think it is fair to confuse a Muslim's religion with these people's political views and opinions about America.

The thing I find the most interesting about the above list is that the cartoons were published in a Egyptian newspaper (Al Faqr) during October 2005.... If the cartoons really are so offensive why did a newspaper targeting a audience of Muslim faith publish these cartoons, why is Egypt not being abused like the western countries. Anyway, the cartoons in Jylland's Posten never really ment to be offensive, but they where actually meant for childrens books. It all started out with an competition with 10 peolpe trying to draw Muhammed. But it seems like things got over hand, with the "bomb on head" and stuff.

And Norway, a magazine called "Magazinet" (Which is christian) printed the pictures. What i am most amazed of is that the muslims + others actually saw them. Like I had never ever heard of the tiny paper "magazinet", and i guess that most norwegains haven't.
