Burning of European Embassies in the Middle East

Organized religion as a whole needs to be abolished.

I know the price. I pay it gladly.

There is the matter of being responsible when using our right of freedom of speech. The press already self-censors many topics that they would not dare deal with in the same way. Do you think we'd see cartoons pointing fun at issues such as child abuse, the holocaust and other sensitive topics?

I see no problem with self-censoring topics that can cause problems. However, I see a MAJOR problem with others censoring such topics. Who is to decide which topics are suitable and which are not, the opinion-police? I don't care if they publish comics of the most horrible sort, I value freedom much higher than this kind of ethics. Freedom is not a priviledge that you or anyone can take away (which the term 'responsible use' seems to suggest), it is a right.

Freedom is a pretty vague term though. Once you start insulting Islam, you are stepping mighty close to treading on their freedom of religion.

If you really value your personal "freedom" over other people... then more power to you I guess. I'd say more, but I consider freedom of speech a privelege, and I'm not about to abuse that privelege/right by being rude and unloving to other people.

Yep, Mary Ward C.S.S. Why?

that's why the entire Muslim world is upset.

I understand why they would get offended

They have the right to be angry

Upset? Offended? Angry? I am sorry this might be me but when I get angry or offended by someones comment I tell them, yell at them, go blow of steam or something. The one thing I don't do is go burn buildings and kill people. I was fine with the boycot. The comics would be offending and it was immature for the other countries to publish them. That DOES NOT give them the right to go burn down buildings.

If is just said a very offending Jesus joke right now (which I would not do because I am a Christian too but for the sake of the argument say I did) what would you do. Flame me? Cuss me out? I would bet that you probalby wouldn't try to burn my house down and try to kill my family now would you.

I don't blame the muslims one bit

So if someone just insulted Jesus right now I have the right to burn down their house. By what you are saying if someone does or says something insulting then you should try to hurt them as much as possibe. I am sorry but for me insults are not a defense for murder or arson.

Sorry, let me rephrase that.

I do blame them, they are responsible for their actions, but I can understand why they did what they did. It doesn't make it right, but I can't say I feel entirely sorry for the other side.

I also think the Muslims are going way overboard here but then again I certainly wouldn't give my life to defend those embassies, France, Norway, etc reprinting the pictures was simpy, stupid and irrisponsible. Thankfully the Americans were smart enouph to exersise some caution on the issue, funny though since they usually "enforce democracy and freedoms".

Just kidding!

The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.

In the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.

I'm currently following a game being developed in Denmark. Not too long ago there was a thread on the forums called something along the lines of "you will regret this . . . just wait for the attacks" and all it contained were a bunch of links to images with explosions, guns, and Denmark, with short phrases about how there would be retaliation. The pics were hosted on a site with arabic-looking letters and the posters name was just qqqqqqq. The thread was obviously quickly deleted and the poster banned, but it's still kind of a scary thing to think the next major terrorist attacks could very well be there.

It's even more ridiculous that this was just some game forum. It's not like every single citizen of Denmark got together and decided to piss off an entire religion.

I can still probably find the pics in my history but don't think it would be too appropriate to post them.

Each and every one responsible for this attack on liberty should be hunted down like animals, as should those in power who are now encouraging acts of violence, including the leader of Hamas. I don't care whatsoever if people want to belive in a religion, keep my rights away from it. Freedom of speech must NEVER be allowed to be restricted by fanatics.

The hamas government is actually protecting the Christians and other foreigners in the Palestinian state from harm, and condemning all acts of violence because of the cartoons, from what I've read...

Source:

http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/02/03/news/islam.php (second and third page)

So much for the religion of peace, eh?

Let's not judge the religion by the actions of the people eh?

That would be pretty hard since Muslims who condemn these acts rarely speak up, letting these extremists create the whole representation of Islam for non-Muslims.

It would be pretty easy, if you didn't just read the Media you want to read. Geesh, look beyond the tip of your nose please... these non-violent muslims do exist, they do condemn the violence, and they do even get in the news. They are the calm people in suits you see being interviewed, that is, if you ever watch some news source which isn't incredibly biased.

And for that matter, before you start judging a religion based on what some people claim it is, maybe actually look into what the religion is about? There's been a very good topic on the matter of Islam on these boards which was not too long ago. Go read that instead of spouting stupid incendiary prejudisms into this thread.

That said, in my opinion the burning down of embassies is stupid, irresponsible, and those who do it should be punished. Period.

At the same time, the papers who published the cartoons should have thought twice before they did so, as should *especially* the papers that reprinted them after all hell broke loose already. Stupid sensationalism.

The cartoon was stupid, but so was the action taken in response to it.

I think I saw kirbybeam out there rioting.

Putting things on fire for some comics is just retarted, every single one of those extremists should start going to school and stop acting like some undereducated animal.

It's only a religion for christ sake, I find it offensive that people think that laughing with religion is worse then putting building on fire or even killing human.

You find it offensive? Did you even do any research before you posted that? The muslim religion is pretty strict. And by the way, "killing human"?

And "putting things on fire"? Learn to freaking write! They have every right to burn down embassies! If someone would start a cult that burns all copies of constitutions or declarations of independence or stuff like that wouldn't you be insulted? And by the way... they're not freaking acting like undereducated animals! You're the freaking under-educutated animal!!!

That makes you just as much of a fanatic as them! And why are you talking about freedom of speech? Their religion says that that is a sin and that those people are their enemies and have to be killed or something like that... You're totally right, but in your example you used the Christian religion, which is really different from the Muslim religion. From what I know, their religion tells them that they have to burn down buildings and kill people that blaspheme that much. But it's still not their fault, and they're not immature or uneducated or something else.

Losers...

Are you blind or ignoring me on purpose?

Even though I sometimes side with religious people in some debates, I no longer consider myself religious.

You shouted 'I'm an uncivilized muslim' all over that post you know.

Read this article. Since the Muslims have done that in the past, would it be right for Israel to nuke its neighbours?

I think both sides believe they have overdone the whole thing, but now they both have gone too far to back down.

The cartoon is offensive, yes.

Would you like someone saying everything you been taught to believe since you go to school resumes to violence?

The muslim reaction isn't proper though...

After all, if you think imparcially, you will see the world is full of wrong sides.

Tell me... do you believe that what they're doing is right (the violent protests)? Firstly, I do think they're in the right being mad. But I wouldn't protest with violence, whether the person has insulted what I believed in in one of the worst ways possible or not.

So i'm confused - their religion tells them they have to burn down buildings and kill people?? I'm sorry, I know quite a few Muslim's and I guess they're going against their religion because they definitaly don't go around burning a building down or killing people because they were insulted (to a high or low degree). I've seen a few been insulted due to their religion and yeah, they get pissed off by it (who wouln't get mad if you were insulted??) but there's a point where you just need to stop at mad instead of going to insane actions.

square 101, I agree very much with what you've said.

I mean come on... this is a bit ridiculous:

Iraqis rallying by the hundreds demanded an apology from the European Union, and the leader of the Palestinian group Hamas called the cartoons "an unforgivable insult" that merited punishment by death.

:\

I also think the Muslims are going way overboard here but then again I certainly wouldn't give my life to defend those embassies, France, Norway, etc reprinting the pictures was simpy, stupid and irrisponsible.

As the Norwegian prime minister pointed out, freedom of the press means that while the government can always yell at a newspaper *after* they've published something, the paper still gets to publish. The government of the respective countries have had no say in what has been published and holding them responsible in any way is ridicolous.

That being said, I still think publishing and republishing these images is moronic to the point of the extreme. Sheesh, show some respect for crying out loud.

Point 1 - this guy is not a Muslim as indicated by the embolded word.

Point 2 - That whole paragraph, and much the rest of his post is absolutely wrong and unjustifiable. Did you even read what I've posted earlier in this topic from my Islamic point of view?

anyway from what information I glem off other websites about this thing, that Danish Newspaper commission those comics as a response to several events that happened recently.

The murder of that director because he insulted Islam

A Jewish guy got beaten up because he as an 'infindel' dare to read from the koran.

People were afraid to touch islam with a ten foot pole because they fear getting beat up and killed.

So the paper printed those cartoons as a statement to show that people shouldn't let these kind of threats impeading them in their freedom of expression or something.

So this does make more sense why they printed the cartoons though they went in a quite stupid way.

image1ne5.png
I consider freedom of speech a privelege, and I'm not about to abuse that privelege/right by being rude and unloving to other people.

I agree; Freedom of speech is a privilege, with privilege follows responsibility!

But to allow all kind of speech in public media would be irresponsible.

If you have a child, age 4. Would you allow that child to say what ever comes in mind when you have guests over? No, of course not. As a parent you have the responsibility to teach your child to be polite and well-behaved.

Maybe a far fetched illustration, but I mean, that in this case, the danish media have acted immature and irresponsible.

Not that I agree with the extremists reaction in this case though. I see them as upset monkeys in a cage; Much screeming, riots and tossing sticks around.

Many of my muslim friends are very upset and embarrased over those extremists reactions.

- "I am willing to die...I mean try" - Jewelfire (Want to go bossing?)
-"we tried, we cried and we died!" - Limparse (What happens to old farts and tarts on monster-hunts)
- "...and we found out that there are as many ways to get to warriors guild
...as there are elders trying to get there" - Lysi
*snods agely* sorry... *nods sagely* - Brammy

-"Equality is being treated the SAME as everyone else;

not having special treatment and unique things added in to everything." - Sy_Accursed

What a coincedence! I tried to post this kinda thing 2 only on the Runescape official forums. I got a black mark lol. Yeh I think it's just hiprocracy gone mad.

[Admin Edit: Do Not Post Referral Links]

Nice of the extremists to exercise their right to free speech to protest against freedom of speech...

Religion plays no part in a secular society and its ideas are not the laws of the world.

I fully understand that these people violently protesting about killing etc are delusioned extremists but their voiuces and actions fuel the flames of religious intollerence. The voices of most Muslims, who feel that whats done is done and while offended know that it was never intended to stir hatred, are just not heard. the Muslim Council of Britain for example holds no power over many of the muslims in this country and its condemning is just not heard. Strong leaders and high profile Muslims and clerics need to stand up against the atrocities being commited by the few extremists or it will never end.

This should not be a political argument, unlike many Muslim countries the media is controlled by the Government and this is not the case in Europe. this all stems from confusion of the Media not realise the offence caused by the cartoons and the Muslims not understanding the style of media in the western world. Satire plays a massive part in the UK and i hear its especially big in Denmark too and this is considered normal. We have entire TV shows dedicated to picking fun of Political and religious leaders as well as the day to day celebrity piss taking. We find this amusing and know its all lighthearted. I read comments by Muslims about how people would react to pictures of Jesus carrying a gun, well I was in London yesterday and saw tshirts depicting exactly that in a shop. Was it getting burnt down and rioted...? no. I also urge many Muslims to take a look at how their cartoons portray Israel and Jews in general

There are caricatures of religious leaders of all faiths yet none of them resort to such violence as some of the Muslim people have been doing across the world. I belive its in the Koran chapter 42, verse 11 that says... "Allah is the originator of the heavens and the earth... there is nothing like a likeness of Him." I take it that extends to Mohammed which is where the "ban" on likenesses comes from. The Koran does not mention an explicit ban on images of the prophet and it definitly does not say that people who do portray him shouold be killed. Islam preaches peace and not hate and the "Muslims" violently protesting, dressing as suicide bombers and the people burning down buildings are nor more Muslim that the Crucaders were Christian.

I probrably come accross as a bit Muslim here but I dont intend to and i'm sorry if you feel i am generalising. As an Atheist is see this going on and just cant help but wonder how much better we would all be without religion controlling peoples lives. Theres is a clear seperation between rel;igion and state in the western world as well as another clear seperation between the state and media. A mistake in posting a few pictures by a newspaper in one of the most peaceful countries in the world almost 5 months ago should not have escalated into this political riot. This is all pathetic.

Muslims speak out! Europe is awash with extremists with bigger mouths than most of you true Muslims. But, theres more of you, together you can stamp out the extremists and show them that they are not wanted. Only then can real progress and tolerence can come about.

Hell yeah, I'm totally [developmentally delayed]ed. You just don't get it, do you? They don't have rights. Each and every one of the violent protesters are an enemy of freedom, they don't have any rights at all. Those who cannot make a difference between wanting to burn down something and doing it aren't even people, they are animals. They can protest as god damn much as they want, but as soon as they attack an embassy which belongs to my people, I will consider that an attack against ME. So yeah, I'm a fanatic. I will fight to do the death for the rights of each and everyone to speak his mind. I don't give a damn about religion, I do give a damn about freedom.

I can't believe a guy who seriously thinks burning down embassies is an actual part of Islam is calling me stupid. But maybe that's what you get for keeping the weaker specimens of humanity safe from natural selection.

"They drew cartoons wrongly depicting us as violent murderers, let's burn their buildings to the ground and wish death upon them!"

Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time.

This is probably the reason why I deny my heritage. I'm a very peaceful person at heart and was unfortunately born in the middle east. Every time I hear news like this it puts me down as a person even though I'm not Muslim. I still, however, get some pretty harsh reactions from people when I tell them I was born in the Middle East. On another note, I can see how the Muslim's are angry but way to blow it out of proportion.
