There has been jmod sourced rumours around for a while about a mining and smithing rework on the cards of 'to be done' that would involve squishing the existing content down to appropriate levels. Overdue, certainly, but it's on the cards at least.

Wasn't that around 2009/2010?

 

Last time it came up was around BOE launch which was where we were explicitly told of the intent to squish everything down, opposed to assumptions that it would have to be done. It was given by the BOE Dev when explaining why obby armour was only allowed to be good inside thzaar (because otherwise it'd interfer with the smithing rework)

 

So in terms of dev cycle and mentions of skill reworks it is among the most recent, only really being beaten by construction in june bts and agility mentions in qa vids.

It's been around for a long time but projects like that take time, and aren't as exciting so they keep getting shoved out of the way in favor of more exciting things.

 

Basically I think they're waiting a lot more for RS3 projects to get back some developers onto other long term projects. RS has to balance between fix-up projects like that as well as working on exciting new content each week.

They can take as long as they like. It just gives me more time to finish superheating my way to 99 while still making bank using rune bars. :P

I think many of the skill reworks are 'on hold' as it were for two things, first being rs3 to allow better newer approaches and secondly eoc to be (finally) be considered pretty much done.

 

From the June BTS we know what would appear to be the construction rework is enroute for this year. But then we also know summoning, agility, mining and smithing have been promised reworks. I suspect mining (and thus smithing) may reach the table after the new wc trees mentioned and divination are launched to allow them to see how such new things fair.

Since they are promising these reworks I really wish we had more information. I'm curious as to how they'll approach this. If I was being honest I wouldn't mind some dragon equipment being made by the use of bane ores from RotM, but I feel like way too many players would flip [bleep] and I fear certain dragon item dropping monster would just become so less appealing. I'm looking at you Tormented Demons...

From a campfire later that month I think we were told that wouldn't be coming until next year. I'll try to find it but @_@

If Construction will be 're-released' will there be any other skills that will be improved on?

Mod Pips: We talk a lot about overhauling agility and doing much more with summoning through a complete rework... smithing too, but these are longer term aspirations, possibly to start on next year.

 

Summoning was already pinned to being next year to bring it in line with EoC; agility I thought was actually rumored to come out this year but I guess not; smithing was something we never really had a date on

 

But re-reading this quote I see that I'm quite mistaken. I interpreted the answer from mod Pips to include Con in the rework list for next year. Re-reading that I see I was wrong.

^tbf that answer does not rule out construction being this year.

 

The framing context is construction is happening so what about others, therefore the answer can be read as exclusively about the others, but I see you already noted that.

Which is why I crossed out the first half of my post and closed with my admission to my mistake.

 

I'm glad we're on the same page again but surely this is getting a bit tiresome just repeating back and forth what we're saying, no? :P

Sigh, why are they forcing me to use an interface I can do nothing with. :/

 

I'm sure you can change the interface to make it very similar to how it is now. So it's not like they are forcing you to.

This is about the closest I can get to how my screen looks on the normal servers.

I cant get that momentum thingy away, my exp counter is stuck between at those tabs, I cant even find an exit button.

The bar with my health etc: I can't change the size of it, so it's just sitting there as a big blocking thing. Even more for that other bar, which I don't even know what it does.

Also I can't get rid of all the clutter in my chatbox (why would I need all those selection buttons constantly on the screen?) and a lot of functions I can only get to by searching through some new screens.

Last of all: what is that camera doing? It feels really uneasy to work with.

 

I'm not scared of change, I do am mad when they are forcing me something unfinished I can't work with.

As far as I know, the momentum icon is just telling you that momentum is active. The exp counter was recently added (probably shoehorned in) at the request of players. Logout button is in a submenu found by clicking the gear on top right of hp/adren/pray/sum box. You can right click the health bar to set it vertical I think, not sure if you can resize it.

 

I'm not entirely satisfied with it, but I think I could get used to it fairly easily. It's certainly very interesting, coming from someone who's never played an mmo aside from rs.

I can't resize any of the two bars, only make them vertical, which still doesn't solve the problem that I can't even see my character.

And it's so unlogical to have an exit button so tucked away.

 

You can press Esc to open the menu with the exit button (unless they've changed it, I haven't tried NIS recently). You can also move the momentum icon and the xp counter somehow but it's hidden somewhere in the menus :P

the momentum and xp counters are both moveable in the edit mode from settings and as mentioned esc gets you to the log out menu easypeasy, you could also get it a bit closer to current by shrinking the side boxes a bit to throw the settings menu bar in under them.

 

But honestly to have so little space why on earth is your screen res so small?

I really can't move the counters or momentum.

If I shrink the sideboxes, my skillstab becomes one horrid long scrolling list. This is the smallest I can make it without having to scroll constantly through the interfaces.

 

And my screen res isn't small, it's the fixed game screen we had before that resizeable screen came with RS HD. I only play fixed, did that the past 9 years.

You're wrong about not being able to move the counter or effects HUD.

Use a better resolution. It seems like all of your actual problems are caused by your unwillingness to change. Seriously, fixed is terrible. It's time to realize that.

When I use resizeable at the size I use my screen for, it's about a centimeter bigger than fixed, BUT it gives me a chatbox I can click through (which I hate) and a dropdown menu for the other tabs (which I also dislike). So fixed is the optimal choice for me.

Within a week I'll have to play with a suboptimal game setting, don't you guys believe this feels kinda forced on me?

What about us poor people with lower end computers who have to run in fixed screen because full screen lags too much?

 

I'm not looking forward to having that much of my already limited screen real estate taken up. :(
