11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports

Just sent a 10 lacquer joint voyage at 92%, 5 lacquer at 85%, 5 plate at 72% (really shitty for some reason). I left the 30 spice I got because it was just a suicide. I'll probably send it in the morning. Looks like I'll be finishing my DL set tomorrow :D. I passed up a scroll voyage because the lacquer was so damn tempting. Still 22 scrolls from completion though.

Assuming tonight's lacquer voyage succeeds I'll have exactly enough for full Superior Death Lotus. Unfortunately I still haven't gotten 90 Crafting or the scrolls needed. Oh well - I can't think of what I'd want to use it for anyway, hence why it's the last set I'm getting.

Is there any place Death Lotus really shines? AGWD, perhaps?

It seems weird that they'd make the range dungeon a place designed specifically for tank armor when the mage dungeon is not.

I wouldn't go buying pop tank gear just for that incoming update based on a stab in the dark...

Will probably shine in the ranged dungeon when t comes.

[citation needed]

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

CR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size.
...
It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).

Why would you buy if when you could just make it?

It's continually crashing in price right now because you have a lot of average people unlocking the gear and putting them on the market. For others who haven't bothered, still have a long ways to go, or whatever other reason it's likely easier to buy than to wait if it means they have access to new content with new loot, which typically translates into great profits. After they're done, they often think they can simply sell them back without a loss. (Yet everyone enters into that scenario with the same mindset and they all end up taking a loss on it anyway.)

But I'm getting off track. Here's the issue I take with your claim...

You've got absolutely no reason to believe that the range dungeon will break the pattern established by the other combat-specific dungeons. Those rumors, which are founded by nothing other than your wishful thinking, will only fuel speculation. Don't get me wrong, you're not the only one who would think this. But those that do have absolutely nothing to go on. So then prices briefly rise from little more than pure hope and when it's obvious that nothing else has changed, they will crash harder than they would've done on its own. This simply spurs on the natural decline as more people dump their PoP gear in hopes for profit.

It'd be nigh impossible for the range slayer dung to be a 'tank armour' dungeon anyways.

For it to be a high level dungeon it has to have high end monsters that need t70+ gear to battle effectively.

For it to be a high level dungeon specific to tank armour it needs monsters that hit SO hard *only* tank armour is viable - for this tot be the case they've gotta hit hard enough to need barrows/gano > GWD armour, which would fail as nex armour would still be better OR they need to hit SO hard only PoP is viable, which would likely sign a death warrant for it as being a waste of time. Not to mention this assume Jagex design works for more than a few hours when people suss out the best ways, not to mention the fact the defence difference between nex and pop is so minute you'd have to be talking pretty insanely high hits to warrant the extra slither of def.

Also let us not forget that as it stands you don't even NEED tank armour for the top end bosses - for this dungeon to NEED it would require the monsters to be more deadly than KK, QBD, Nex etc. and that just does not make sense at the moment. Sure someday 'normal' monsters will likely surpass these current top end bosse, but as it stands there is a pretty big gulf between the likes of miths and gano beats that account for the current top 'normal' and even these guys and it doesn't make sense to leap frog that gap and more in 1 go.

Also @above they never said the ranged dungeon would require top tier armour, they've literally said nothing about it.

Several updates in development now are targeted at high-level players with the best gear. Updates like the Kalphite King and the new Slayer dungeon are being designed under the assumption that players will be using the best gear available to them. Using second-rate gear meant for lower levels just won’t do the job! All of the equipment intended for the next level tier will degrade or have higher repair costs, so don’t assume that the current highest level gear will be out of date - far from it!

'the best gear available to them' =/= 'top tier items'

What they said implies an association to the level the content is aimed at; if the dungeon came out as a level 60 piece of content 'the best gear availble' would mean dragon armour and its kin.

Admittedly it is supposed to be 'high level' so I doubt lvl 60, but I'd think lvl 70-80 will be the targetted ballpark which would firmly palce their statement as GWD/barrows/Nex, but never the less the point still stands your claim of them saying it would need 'top tier armour' is invalid as they did not say it in the slightest - it is a false conclusion you have drawn by twisting their words and it is that kind of practice that leads to false expectations and claims Jagex 'lied' when they did not.

Damn don't shoot me... Lmao. Nothing wrong about finishing up ports anyways. I thought about grabbing offensive gear just for the easier monsters, but right now I don't care so I use my defensive ports gear with everything. Honestly I think you guys let efficiency get to your head too much.

in order to make tank armor useful jagex has to make it DO SOMETHING. damage reduction proportional to the tier? great. Special attacks that hit harder vs offensive armor? perfect. We need something to offset the ability to simply hit harder, therefore healing more and loosing less overall health at high tier bosses. Glacors kind of have the opposite of this right now where the lower your LP is the lower they hit with their special attacks, meaning that defensive armor is completely useless, and this needs to change in future designs.

It was implied it would be the same tier as KK, which is top tier. Your prediction is as good as mine. Considering just a few posts ago you said you knew of no mentions of the update till I posted it, I don't think it's fair for you to conclude that your inferrences of semantics are somehow superior to mine.

For getting the triple voyages in, is there a specific icon order I should have?

I seem to be failing to get any double, let alone triple voyages in atm.

Double and Triple are mutually exclusive (because the way the doubles appear). The best way to increase your chances is probably just build one of each icon in the same set of trio, and hope for the best.

Somewhat stupid question, which I'm sure has been answered multiple times already in this thread, but do you have to have unlocked all three adventurers in a trio and done all of their single storylines to get trio voyages, or just two?

You need to have done each of the storyline of each individual adventurer. Once you have done that for adventurers that will form a trio, the trio voyages will appear.

Well 10 lacquer came back a success, but the 5 lacquer failed without a partial success. The 5 plate succeeded too. Damn it now I have to wait for another lacquer voyage...
