  • To me, that's about just how a quest should be - a bit of a puzzle, a bit of exploring, a few medium/hard combat encounters, all bound together by lore.

I think the rewards were pretty amply considering this is basically the start of the Zaros story arc. I mean 325k div xp? 225k combat xp? 125k magic xp? 100k slayer xp? 75k Agility xp? 50k summon xp?

  • I think I unlocked a new music track... [hide=Possible spoilers? Idk] [/hide]

Well not sure if anyone is thinking about this but im curious to know why did zaros sent char to look for staff of armadyl and stone of jas???

The only thing I don't understand is: if it drawed energy only to Mah, where they all skeletonlike and very powerless on Freneskrae? Here on Gielinor they get their powers and skin back when they absorb the energy of a dead Mahjarrat, this couldn't have happened on Freneskrae. :s

On Freneskae, the Ritual of Enervation gave them enough energy to be able to procreate. Chances are that drawing energy from Mah (whilst enervating her) was all they needed to keep themselves rejuvenated. They had no need to purposely seek energy on Freneskae to keep themselves rejuvenated, unlike on Gielinor where they have to perform the ritual. This might also explain why they can't procreate on Gielinor, because there isn't a large enough energy source for them to tap into to create another Mahjarrat.

Hmmmm, Khazard did get born here... :P I don't know, I'd call it very odd if it'd be this way, as the the names of the rituals could better be exchanged for each other then, getting rejuvenated during the Enervation Ritual sound weird.

@Rena: Yeah... So far I got myself. It's more the implications that they didn't gain any energy themselves during rejuvination rituals on Freneskae. (Also, there were two ways to write Freneskrae for years, it seems they've dropped the second "r" with this quest :o).

Or it is because there is only a single female remaining and she refuses to mate with anyone but Zamorak..... Can't exactly mate when there aren't any females to mate with.

Actually, I forgot that Palkeera gave birth to Khazard on Gielinor. Whoops

The names of the rituals focused on their effects on Mah. All this time I assumed that it was called the Ritual of Rejuvenation to refer to the Mahjarrat being rejuvenated, but with the lore reveals this week and last, it's now apparent that they were named as such (by Seren?) for their effects on Mother Mah. The Ritual of Rejuvenation ended her nightmares by rejuvenating her through the release of energy from Mahjarrat sacrifice, while the Ritual of Enervation stopped earthquakes by draining her energy and using it for Mahjarrat procreation.

The naming of the ritual was very very clever :( I still can't get over it.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

I still can't get over where the story seems to be going. It used to be about warring gods, and their minions and all that, but now it's really about the Elder Gods possibly destroying the universe itself -- this new twist/development makes everything else that has happened so trivial and pointless. Azzanadra used to go and destroy armies and what not; now he's going to try and find the Elder Halls and 'rouse the Elder Gods'? Makes all the other Younger Gods  and Sliske and everyone look like total dicks (though they sort of always were), while Zaros is the only one who is apparently aware of the real problem and trying to do something about it. Meh... It's purely a matter of subjective taste, but I am not sure I like this.

Yes it's clever, but I still find it odd, only Seren knew the real purpose of the rituals, wouldn't there be a single Mahjarrat thinking "hey, why are we calling it a Rejuvination Ritual? We are just killing someone of our kind to appease Mother Mah/the mountain." I'd think they'd change the name to something more fitting through the info they got about the ritual, like 'The Tithe'.

The names of the rituals refer to what they were doing to Mah rather than themselves.

The ritual of Rejuvenation rejuvenated Mah so that she stopped having nightmares.

The ritual of Enervation drained energy from Mah when she accumulated to much causing the world to begin to break apart (earthquakes).

Yessssss, I know, but to anyone except Seren (and the player) these names are confusing and non-logical. :p The Mahjarrat knew no effect of rejuvenation from the ritual while on Freneskae, so why use that name?

Anyone know how the dark magic aura works now? worth using over runic accuracy?

>Dark magic is a tier-3 aura released on 6 December 2011 with the third batch of Members Loyalty Programme rewards that can be bought from the Loyalty Programme Shop for 42,500 Membership Loyalty Points. When activated, any damaging magic will have a small chance of dealing a corrupting effect. The base damage of this effect is the lesser of (magic level + 1) * 15, and 5% of the monster's life points. Every 30 seconds or so, you will do 100% of that damage, then 80% of it, then 64% of it, then 51.2% of it. This happens over the course of about 10 seconds, and the damage is counted as auto-attack damage. It does not carry over from one monster to another if the first one dies while under the effect.

>As an example, Glacors have 30,000 life points. If you had 95 Magic, your dark magic damage would be the minimum of (95 + 1) * 15 and 30,000 * 0.05, or 1440. So your first hit would be 1440, then 1152, then 921, then 737. Using dark magic can increase damage output by about 5-15% in the long term, although this is highly dependent on the monster's lifepoints.

Might be useful for extra dps for PvM that you won't splash against.

Soo... After the quest

Where did Mah go?

Only just did it. Good quest, naturally I had one crystal left and had no idea which it was so had to go through all of them :(

Only just did it. Good quest, naturally I had one crystal left and had no idea which it was so had to go through all of them :(

That awkward moment when you miss the fact you can tell which crystals you do and do not have by the graphics and chapter select interface and then use a map to tell you where the missing one is.

What I didn't follow why were some the crystals were kinda arbitrarily out of order.

I mean if you fully explore and have no back tracking you go 9,2,1,4,5,6,7,8,11,10,12,3

I mean you semi justify 9 in that you see it from afar at 6 if you don't twig you can get behind the gate then have to re-find it.

But surely in that case order wise it'd make sense for it to be:

7,1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10,11,12

That way they are in order even accounting for you spotting the one behind the gate (in theory) once you reach 6.

Just strikes me as a bit random to have 1 and 2 reversed then have 9, 10, 11 and 3 out of sync for no real purpose.

Plus why randomly make Mah have an arm hole to hide a crystal out of order when they could've made the final one inside the Elder Halls blocked off by her leg or something just as easily.

That I don't understand

1. how could she have gotten out of the volcano if the volcano was still there. I mean... She would be large enough to just BREAK IT APART and walk away, right? Not.. jump or fly out?

2. Considering a lot of the lore previously said that she was deathly low on energy for eons, and that she slept, and was eventually comatose, how did she not only wake up, but get enough energy to move around so much after the quest?

1. The hole's as large s her body, so she isn't physically trapped there, per se.

2. We're talking in relative terms, so what seems like a year to us is probably like an hour to beings that old. She's still dying, but she's also still a freaking elder god.

Huh, that answers my question.

But now, on Freneskae, Mah is wandering around.

Good lord, that is going to be terrifying! Never going back there again. Nope, nope, nope

so, wait, we can keep the mad god alive when we go back to get that energy for the sweet loot they're making?

I'm somewhat disappointed that the only "choice" we get is whether to give Zaros a supposedly weakened body or to give him a strong body...

We can't just.. "walk away", I mean obviously we can not finish the quest.. but I was hoping it would be possible to just be like "nope!"

As much as I enjoyed the quest thoroughly, when it was talked about at Runefest I totally expected multiple versions of Zaros depending on how much you were willing to work alongside him, choosing different bodies/forms to limit his powers or being able to to just outright not bring him back and perhaps conclude the quest by allying with Sliske instead.

I expected Bioware quality narrative in bringing about multiple, alternative story arcs from an event, so to see that 'going against him' only results in a duller colour scheme and a particle effect around the hole in his chest...it somewhat disappoints me.

But then, just how much control can Jagex give to players when it comes to story? Makes me wonder just how big and varied the sixth age quests are going to be. It sounded originally they would be spanning multiple pathways, but now it seems like it's either one way or another. It was the same with the Owen quest lines, sure, they can give plenty of alternative dialogue, but our ability to truly impact the story line and make it very personal to ourselves doesn't seem very doable now, which to me, sounded like a big selling point around the whole idea of RS3.

I think there are some pretty severe technical limitations when it comes to the amount of impact players can have on quest storylines. Since Zaros seems to be playing a critical role in the main storyline, I'm not sure they could have worked out alternative storylines for quests later on without effectively developing two different questlines, depending on what choice players made here, and I doubt they were willing to commit that much time and energy into content that only half the players could ever see at a time.

"Minor" changes, like a character's model, superficial features in an area (like Edgeville post-RotM), or changed dialogue, are a lot quicker to implement than entire differing questlines.

Obtained quest cape and base 92 before obtaining any 99s! Currently finishing out my 99s with the (long-distant) goal of comp cape.
