Best Book I've Ever Read

I understand what you mean by being moved more by accounts of real events than by fiction. I find the same thing when watching movies. Though I still get caught up in fiction, just less so.

My favourite book? Probably Nineteen Eighty-Four. Very powerful, read at a young age also, so didn't know what I was letting myself in for (so many people quote it that probably have never read it - and it just ruins it for new readers), and I ended up being blown away.

I have just finished reading 1984. Another very moving book which really made me think.

Offline and unavailable.

One of the best books I've read would have to be Ender's Game or Battlefield Earth

Truly great novels, everyone who is the least bit interested in scifi should read them at least once.

(Right now I'm going through Interview With the Vampire and if all goes well, Gravity's Rainbow after)

Ender's Game is amazing. Have you read Ender's Shadow? I haven't, but I heard it's really good as well. It's the same story told through the perspective of Bean. Orson Scott Card's Pas[bleep]ch is really good as well.

It felt to me that the books other than Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead were just pretty drawn out (although they were still worth reading)

However, I'm torn between two books to be my favourites. The Kiterunner by Khaled Hosseini

I had almost forgotten about this book, very moving, educating and for me disturbing. It really educated me about a country I had never really thought about without a war going on. It was very different from anything I had ever read before, I enjoyed it a lot but I found it had quite an anti-climax. Catch 22's ending left me with a huge good feeling in my chest but the Kite Runner's ending left me feeling dissapointed. A book that good needs a good ending or it fades from your memory which is a great shame.[/i]

Anything from the Forgotten Realms by R.A. Salvatore. Icewind Dale is currently my favorite, followed by the Dark Elf trilogy.

A kindred spirit! Marvelous!

Did you read the Demonwars sagas?

On the flip side, it's been proven that women are probably better mothers

Yes I have balls, but they melted.

Mine would be the trilogy of Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen

Yeah, those books were seriously good, I had to make up a chapter for a part of the Abhorsen book written from Mogget's perspective :P .

Lowgravity, I want to be just like you. But...I never will be as 1337 as you. :(

Mine's Watership Down. I love the sense of adventure from a non-mythical, non-human perspective. It's about a group of rabbits who leave their warden(I think that's what it's called =| ) to find a new place to live.

i read that book in lit/comp and didn't like it that much....as you probably know its a comment on today's society

my favorite book is probably a tale of two cities-charles [bleep]ens its a wonderful plot(yes i know kinda geeky)

second favorite book is eragon(even more geeky  )

lol

Love those series. If you guys like this style I highly recommend Raymond E. Feist's books starting with Magician: apprentice. There's something like 15 books in the series and they are completely worth it.

I don't know what my "All Time Favorite Book" is, but the book that was and is most moving to me is All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque. It's fiction about a soldier in World War I, but it's also kind of autobiographical because the author was in WWI so he knows what he's talking about. Extremely powerful story. Some people find it pretty depressing, but there's so much truth in it that for me it's almost an uplifting experience to read it.

I saw the movie "The Power of One" before I read the book, so when I read the book I had all these expectations and it wasn't as good as I'd hoped. Probably if I had read the book first, I would have liked the book more and been disappointed by the movie. :? Good story either way

1984 was good and it made me think, but I wouldn't really call it a favorite. Same with Brave New World. Both have some pretty deep philosophical/political ideas in them, but as stories they're nothing special.

For science fiction, nothing beats Ender's Game. Unless it's Ender's Shadow  .

For fantasy, probably my favorite book was Terry Goodkind's Wizard's First Rule. It's the first in a huge series, and the series is pretty good too. That first book is incredible, though.

1984 freaked me out... I was really disgusted on how the main character ended up in the end... >_<

It was a very powerful book indeed!

My English class also had to do Brave New World to compare/contrast the two novels.

Those two books were really amazing.

The hardest, but most satisfying book ive read is Heart of Darkness.

I tried to read that book 3 times, but I couldnt finish it since it was too hard to read...

Struggled with it, but eventually figured it out when we read it in English class. 8-)

My favorite book though, is War of the Rats.

Its a war story with some historical facts in it, and that made it worth the 50 cent late penalty I got from the library...

Wow, this was way more popular than I ever thought it would be  . Anyways, I personnaly love the Wheel Of Time series by Robert Jordan. All the books are great (and thick) reads. Only complaint is that some are kinda slow, Jordan fixed that in his last book though :D

My local book store isn't very comprehensive, so I've been there several time to try to get some books I've wanted (1984, Animal Farm were the ones I went for, now maybe I should get Ender's Game since everyones suggesting it). Of the books I've read, which is extremely limited, my favs were Dune, A Clockwork Orange, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Funny thing is for Dune, I didn't even know it was like, rediculously popular when I read it. I found an old copy that hadn't been read in atleast like 15 years at my cottage, and I just started reading. All those books were very good. I'd def suggest One Flew to those who have seen the movie, as not only does it expand on the book, it also has a completely different point of view and thus really builds the character of Chief. IMO, it really complements the movie very nicely.

second favorite book is eragon(even more geeky  )

If you want geeky, then you should meet the author of that book. He came to my school a year or so ago, and walked on the stage wearing authentic renaissence period clothing, or something. He was also signing his book, and I kick my self now for not buying one then, because some of my friends sold the signed first copy for up to $700 on Ebay!

Anyway, Eragon and its sequel were great books, and I eagerly await the third one. As for other books, i have read alot of those mentioned here, including 1984, Brave New World, The Catcher in the Rye, and others. I have no idea what my favorite book is, though I used to love the Redwall books. I also like the Dark Materials trilogy, Harry Potter, and found Da Vinci's Code to be a great read. In the future, I'm going to read All is Quiet on the Western Front (mentioned somewhere here), One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest, and Angels & Demons.

Everyone seems to have loved that one book, so I may have to look into that.

I read Animal Farm for school, but I'll say that it's really good for a short novel.

I tend to stick with short novels like the Hardy Boys series, but I'm also into the LOTR series and such. I have a couple of the Mythology of Middle-Earth series and it's tough to find the rest in the bookstores here. Not to mention they're expensive for paperbacks :?

And sci-fi is one of the genres I try to stay away from.

Lol, I feel stupid reading these posts about people reading these books which i've never heard of. I'm not much of a reader but I have read a few books in my day. I'm reading Of Mice & Men in school right now (im only in 9th grade), and it's alright. My favorites are probably The Illustrated Man or any book from the Harry Potter series.

122 Combat : 99 Hits : 99 Attack : 99 Strength

97/99 Defence : 99 Fletching : 99 Woodcutting
