The Durgeshuun Xbow (from here-on refered to as Bone Bow) is not all that powerfull in itself, but it has an amazing special attack (if used right).

 

 

 

So lets compare the most widely used Magic Short Bow (MSB), the Crystal Bow, and Kharil's Xbow each with the new Bone Bow...

 

 

 

Weapon: Magic Shortbow

 

Cost: 1500gp tops, can eb for free witht he right levels.

 

Ammo Cost: Depends greatly on what ammo you use. Can be made for free witht he right levels. Can be poisoned.

 

Effectiveness: Has a nice special attack which quickly strikes your target twice. Overall its a good weapon, but no more then that.

 

 

 

Weapon: Kharil's Crossbow

 

Cost: 400k + 100k to repair once in a while

 

Ammo Cost: cheap, but somewhat difficult to aquire large ammounts

 

Effectiveness: Hits more often and does way more damage then the MSB, but has no special attack to increase its effectiveness.

 

 

 

Weapon: Crystal Bow

 

Cost: 900k + decreasing recharge costs

 

Ammo Cost: no ammo used.

 

Effectiveness: Varying, as it degrades (altho with 2 bows this can be overcome). It starts out as the most accurate range weapon, but can be reduced to just under that of a MSB (without the spec).

 

 

 

Weapon: Dorgeshuun Crossbow

 

Cost: 2000gp

 

Ammo Cost: Low, it uses Bone and regular bolts. Can be poisoned. Hard to find sufficient ammounts.

 

Effectiveness: Not as good as the other bows, but when you hit with the sopec the way you're supposed to, you can lower your tagret's defense by 51! Which theoretically puts your Bone Bow's range attack bonus at +93. Add to that that you can still use a shield (or zammy book for another +8 attack bonus, putting it at +101!!!), and the fact that it does not degrade or require repair or recharging.

 

 

 

All in all, the Bone Bow can POTENTIALLY be the best range weapon out there, but it requires true skill on getting that first hit in.

 

 

 

If you can find some bolts, and wish to take the time to attach some opals to it. Perhaps even poison them.

 

 

 

A very good tactic would be to use what this bow is used for. And that is to sneak up to someone in the wilderness from behind, spec it once with this Bone Bow with some poisoned dart (barb, opal, pearl), while wearing a zammy book, and then switch to your bow of preference.

 

 

 

 

 

The main problem is the Bolts.

 

I long ago suggested that one would be able to smith your own bolts (at roughly Smithing lvl 20, getting 5 bolts for 1 bar). Something that SHOULD be available in F2P too...

curses... ah well, most poeple will be using the X-bow for one or two hits, no1 is going to use it for a full fight, so not many bolts needed i guess

Yeah but I think it's a decent bow. I get +125 range bonus with black d hide, zammy book, glory and archer helm. That alone is good enough to hit through most armor.. :-k

hmmm me thinks soon we will be able to smith them or they are just going to release all the metal bolts like they did with arrows, if they do this, the bone bow still isnt that great seeing as it can only use iron

I had a go using the bone bow on Fire Giants, but it was too slow for my liking... :notalk:

I believe it says iron because iron bolts are nearly the same as iron arrows. They hit harder but are a slightly bit less inaccurate, I know for sure I've read that somewhere.

 

 

 

Must say I've taken a liking to the new bow, it goes great with a sara book and my clothes which i wear when I'm not in a battle. Also because I luckily was stocking up on bolts before getting ready to use them when i was bored with my normal bow, now I'm useing it all the time with the new bow and have already earned a range level :P .

 

The only huge minus to the bow is that nearly everyone asks what it is. #-o

 

With the best tip on the dorgeshuun bow I'm sure it would be more then a decent weapon.

I stocked up on bolts before this came out. I have like 500 normal, 50 opal, 20 pearl, and 8 poisoned

Ive included that in the analysis I made as welL... And yes, the lowered defense level stays down, as it is your actual STAT that is lowered...

 

 

 

the effect much resembles that of the Claws of Guthix spell

i wish we could smith/fletch regular bones, and in the future the better the bones the more damage bolts do, like:

i think its a nice and good bow... but only if you are using bronze arrows normaly... cuz bolts are +/- the same price... bolts = 18 ea... bronze arrows 20 each... and you can get realy high range bonus with it... full blk + ranger helm + glory + the cros bow + zamy book like you sad... it would be verry kewl... and the barbs etc arnt rlly needed...

You'd have to start with the Dorgeshuun bow... If they have auto retaliate on, thry automaticly face you on the first strike...

 

 

 

THE ONLY WAY to lower someones def with 51 is when you hit them in the back.

 

 

 

So the best way to deal with this is:

 

-Range pot and superset pot up

 

-Spec with Dorgeshuun Bow (preferably with Barbed Bolts (s))

 

-Keep firing till they reach you to counter attack

 

-Whip

 

 

 

Or:

 

Range pot up.

 

-Dorgeshuun Bow spec (with same bolt as before)

 

-Crystal Bow or Kharils Xbow
