Behind the Scenes - September

Discuss the new update!

Yes, September is here already and we've filled it with some really exciting stuff!

We kick off the month with the next chapter of the Morytania storyline. The new Myreque base in Burgh de Rott seems to be safe for now, although some of the locals still succumb to the ravages of nearby Vampyres. Without more help, surely there's nothing that the Myreque can do?

Or is there?

Veliaf has an ambitious plan to try and gain entry into the Vampyre-ruled lands of the Sanguinesti region. With some small amount of luck, there may still be some resistance hidden away in the murky depths... The ghetto of Meiyerditch has been built, destroyed and rebuilt so many times that the streets and alleyways connect to the roofs in a maze-like web of broken doorways and shattered dreams. Only an adventurer with the agility skills of a cat and the eyes of a hawk will be able to take on this task, especially when trying to evade the demanding, ever-watching Vyrewatch who patrol the skies above...

The free world and the members' world alike will benefit from the introduction of the Lumbridge Guides, a collection of experts in the skills of RuneScape. New players will find them a very useful source of information, especially when they are giving out limited numbers of free runes and arrows and replacing your low-level starting equipment if you lose it. We're also introducing a free teleport for less experienced players to return to Lumbridge if they get lost, and some useful advice if you find yourself at the wrong end of a goblin spear... The guides offer advice to more experienced players too, so you might find one or two level-up messages advising you to go and get more information from these guides. Take it or leave it, they will always be there if you get a little confused.

We're also updating the way signposts work, just to give you a little more information about the game map.

The way we use sound in the free and members' games will be getting another massive boost from the inclusion of area sounds. These area sounds add a new level of immersion into our game world, with waterfalls growing louder as you walk towards them, trees with birds and animal sounds in them, bubbling fountains, wind whistling through the mountains, the sound of the sea lapping against the shore and mysterious howls haunting the peaks of the Wilderness. It really does add a new dimension to the game, and we have enjoyed developing them immensely.

Also this month, we will introduce the Village of Witchaven to the map. This small fishing village, located on the outskirts of Ardougne (Can you say "Arr-Doy-N"?) has lost all its trade since the construction of the nearby fishing platform. As you may be aware, the fishing platform itself has since been taken over by vicious mind-controlling sea slugs. Naturally this rather odd turn of events has attracted the attention of the Temple Knights, a secretive organisation with whom some of you may have worked before.

Can you discover the ancient power hidden behind this wall of slugs, or have the fisherman on the platform just drunk too much ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Årum̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

Well, to be honest... this month really doesn't get me too excited. I was hoping for a little bit... more?

I guess Witchhaven is what I'm looking forward to.

the sound of the sea lapping against the shore

Runescape has that sound anyway when your near water. :-s

No longer playing Runescape, I caught the WoW bug.

I am really excited for that New Myreque quest. That looks really intersting.

The month looks a little bit dry apart from the new sounds. Perhaps the rewards might be good for the quest. We will just have to wait and see.

The new town sounds like an "Escher" painting with walkways going at all angles and doors and such to nowhere.

Hopefully need like Agility 65 so I have an excuse to train, I'm 61.

At 11:30 you should start holding your head underwater wo0t!!!
Stop acting such a moron.

I personally can not wait for this update:

If it's half of what they say that will be a massive update, which i personally will completely love. Just imagine it, walking to the fire giant waterfall and hearing the waterfull sound slowly come from a whisper to a loud smash of water and when walking away hearing the water fall echo away again... If it will be like that then a big thumbs up to Jagex

The quests catch my attention, but I guess litterally all of them do as I'm working to complete all quests (darn ME quests and fairy tale 2 quests are stopping me in my tracks :-w )

QUESTQUESTQUEST AND THE FIRST ONE IS MYREQUE WOOOOT \'

I just like the myreque that's all..

Hey Newbies are future members ;)

I admit when I started 2 years ago I had no idea what to do in Lumby. I died like 100 times to the goblins, men, and spiders. I didn't even know there were three fighting styles until I was like 20 or 30 in attack. Then I found strength and defense. So I say way to go Jagex!

I always look forward to a continuation of a storyline! It's always fun to have a huge story play out in front of you each month or so. Hopefully they'll release something big next week (That's my last update)!

The sounds update will be useless to me as I can't hear any sounds in RS.

Give a man a lighter, and he will be warm for a while.

Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

thats is the part i like most

the thing that grabs my attention is the sounds. Though i'd like to see some other stuff updated...

Plague city storyline, fairy tale pt 3, bank page, varrock makeover. A sequel to temple Knights storyline is o.k i guess.

CANE

Just to be different.

Think about it. A freaking Dragon Cane with a Dragonstone gem.

The spec will simply your character equiping a glove and beachslapping the enemy, who will break down and do the Cry emote for 10 seconds straight.

wow what a bore this update is going to be aside from the sound update which is pretty good but I think most people listen to music while playing.

does anyone remember when they used to add mechanics to the game instead of a quest with some reward, and extended the map a little?

...pest control was a few months ago they can stop riding it and come out with something new again, or at least tell us there are plans to come out with something other than a quest & slight map extension for the rest of runescape?

why even do "behind the scenes" if they're just going to tell us that its more weekly quests =P Use that space for updates that are new and exciting maybe? It's more along the lines of " small backstory of our next crappy little quest" than behind the scenes #-o

i dont want to know what monsters are lurking where and what I can do this month to stop them--i wana know what happened to having clans in game and wilderness tag!!! :wall:

I feel like whatever part of my 5$ goes toward developement is wasted on months like this, but I'm pretty sure im the minority :boohoo:

100 Combat

91 Strength

70 Defense

82 Attack

85 Magic =)

The thing about the languages at the very bottom sounds okay (If they add something like actually fix the censors, or make is so we can talk in caps lock or new text animations) ::'

Im glad that the temple knights finally get to do something ( I didnt do that training for nothing! )

All Quests completed

99 Thieving achieved on January 10th, 2008

99 Defense achieved on August 3rd, 2008

85 Slayer achieved on July 31st, 2008

6 Dragon boot drops, 14 Whip drops

Why update a lousy quest line while there's several good quest lines out there? I odn't care about any of the updates, unless the quests turn out to be really good (fat chance).

Retired

2146 overall - 136 combat - 6 skillcapes

Plus I think the whole teenage girl thing will end soon (hopefully), because my girlfriend is absolutely in love with him(she is 18), and im beginning to feel threatened by his [Justin Bieber] dashing looks.
